The CRP parts have just turned up in the post today so ill post some pictures up in the the next day or two... i have most of the parts for the Brat and Blackfoot so both should handel much better (I hope)
Could anyone tell me about the motors i have on the pictures, I picked them up on ebay at really good prices but are they too much as both cars for some reason seem to run rather slower than they should?.... it could be the fact i am using super old batteries too. Could anyone recomend a good charger at a reassonable price, at the moment i have the original Riko quick charger that i run off a car battery.
i have been reading the post by TAZ-NZ (Guide To Blackfoot Chassis Reliability Mods.) and it has some superb tips on there which i am planning to do.

This is a superb document with excellent information, thankyou very much and look forward to seeing what you may add to this in the future, maybe more performance hop ups? but thanks i am going to start looking at parts asap

By the way in the last picture what wheels are tyres are you using? they look pretty cool! di you require adaptors to fit them?

Also i forgot to mention i have ordered a load of TeamCRP chassis mod parts from the states and they should be here in the next few days. And the servos are not the original ones i got some new ones off ebay

Hello everyone, I have been on here a few weeks after I found my old RC cars from when I was a kid, so I decided to get back into the hobby. I have got an original Brat from 83 and an 85 Beetle (I think) and an 87 Mud Blaster (again I think the dates are write....) Anyway after seeing the condition of 3 of the cars I decided to browse EBay and pick up another chassis for spares or again repair and I got a Mud Blaster for 50 with delivery and body and in much much better condition than mine. So I have got some pictures ill post (beware theres a good few) up with how they did look and look now. This is the 1st every restore I have done I have used all original parts on all the trucks all bar the under tray cover for the Brat and the ESC for the Blaster. All the cars were striped of every part and socked and cleaned regreased or refilled with oil (shocks). So here goes ohhh any comments welcome one thing the stickers for the blaster are **** repros!.....
There could be a few questions on the way if anyone could shed any light?...

These two show what i was upto when i was a kid beetle parts on the brat chassis?.... the beetle chassis was in bits when i found it?..

This is the Brat with the Blaster i won on ebay. i could may have been someones off here?...
Now after some cleaning and fitting the correct parts to both chassis this is what i had...

Now after this i desided to scrap the Beetle chassis because it was in a pretty poor state and the one off ebay was in much better shape so all the parts were put on theat....
Now some of the final pictures with them both running (slow for some reason?....)
Brat

I thought the wheels look superb in red.... what you guys think?....
Blaster

What you think?...........................
Here are some random photos of some of the things i have found when i searching through my old things....

Some of these parts are pretty old dont know if there any use or worth?....
Now both cars are running very slow a lot slower than i remember could be the old batteries but am not sure i think it could be these motors i have got in the they maybe too much for the ESC on the Blaster and the mechanical one on the Brat By the way could anyone tell me what this ESC could handle i have no idea? Also how good is the old Beat radio gear?... the hand controller is great but has no switches on it...

here are the motors... Again not too sure about them? i think i have got a Team Orion Core Modified 10 x 3 Motor, Team Orion Peak 19t Element V2 Motor, Vega Flux 19t Motor.

Also it could be the gears i am not sure what setup is best but i would like it to go as fast as possible

Also does anyone know where this part is supposed to go? it came with - Tamiya 9400370 Subaru Brat 2007 Press Parts Bag Reissue?...

Here is a picture of the Beetle chassis i am not sure what to do with it?... i have no need for it to be built and i don't have the stearing system, i think i may just break it up for spares?...

Also there is a TL01 (i think) and this has took some really pasty! Its in a bad way lol
Well hope they dint take too long to load and cheers to some of the guys that have helped in previous posts when i was i need of parts.

Just buy a Tamiya high torque unit, they're about 8, part no 50473 (white) or 51000 (black)

Superb!... now that sounds great but am not sure what one is but I guess its a servo saver thats the same size? I have all the other parts to the steering system. But again many thanks and i will look straight into that....

Did this come on any other model as the parts are 20 if i m lucky enough to find them?.. (Part Number -0115047- J parts) All i need is the servo saver thing that sits on the servo its a much larger thatn the original Brats that i have got. does anyone know if i can just get that part seperate?... as 20 for that lil piece of plastic is a lot (its crimbo)
Many thanks............

what was the work around????

Evening everyone, I have just restored an original monster beetle and Subaru brat back to superb working original condition. How ever I think i have made the gears up incorrectly somewhere, they both work with no griding or crunching but they are slow! I have all the original cogs from an 83 Brat, 85 Beetle & an 87 Blaster, from all these cogs what is the best selection for the fastest speed?... as i am unsure how to work it out? some have turn numbers on them but?????
I do have some uprated motors i could use too some 19 turn team orion race ones if that would help with an decision making?
many thanks.....................

thanks very much for that mate appreciated

I recently cleared the lof and found all these cars from when i was a kid and have been referbing them to use in the summer. Any help will be appreciated........ -
Evening all I am in need of the server conections for the steering of Brat Mud Blaster (the bit that fits onto the servo and the the steering part fits round it) - they are part of the J PARTS - 0115047. does anyone have a spare set or if not have a second hand full servo connection for the Brat/Beetle. I am going to try ebay and see what prices i can find.

Hi there. The original Brat had a basic 'diff' as opposed to a Frog type diff which is a planet gear design (gears within gears )these 2 designs were the standard set up for Brat and Frog respectively. Many Brats were uprated to Frog diffs for better handling, and this type of diff was then adopted for the later Monster Beetle.A sport tuned motor is a popular choice for a cheap / reliable motor upgrade along with a budget Tamiya or similar electronic speed controller to give good performace without overspending.Another good hop up would be Frog re-release rear oil dampers on your Brat to replace those old friction ones, and of course a set of ball races for the wheels and in the gearbox. Those 'skinny' tyres would have been the Frog (or similar )fronts ,as Brats had wide fronts as standard. The Mudblaster decals can be found in the 'Modelbuild' shop on Ebay for around 10 - good luck with all .
Many thanx for your help the mate much appreciated i will get looking for some bits i need on good old ebay, cheers again

Hi all I am new to the forum, I have been using Tamiya RC cars since i was a kid, I am 24 now and own an 83 Brat - 89 Brat - Monster Beetle and Cilica GT4. I've joined to find out some info on the old brats mainly the gears as they seem to be different. The 83 model uses a different gearing system and the 89 Brat looks to be the same as the Monster Beetle?...
has anyone an idea which gear set is the best to use for the brat?....
also if i was to get any performance boosting parts for them what would be best (i.e. motor etc)
also with the 83 kit i got some small skinny sand wheels i asume there to turn it into a buggy?...
and does anyone know where i can get the original 89 mud blaster decals from (in the UK)
any help and info would be appreciated, I am in the process of using the search function but theres alot of posts to read
Cheers

good ive not done this for years lol.............
