Hi Quincy. Huge fan of you and Kevin's FF01 collection both here and in other similar forums.
I've recently acquired a Laguna shell that I want to restore to full 1997 glory. I've been literally years looking at pics of it online, and only yesterday I was able to get this one. It has seen better days, but I think it could be a solid base to work on.
I'll need to carefully remove the paint, as well as try to save and put properly as many stickers as possible. But not sure how realistic it'll be at this point to remove the ones that are not correctly placed and be able to fit them again.
I wonder if you still had some of the stickers left from your build, so I had a bit of them in reserve. Thanks in advance!
Edit: if this is not appropriate to put in here, lmk and I´ll erase it to not spoil your thread.
Nice project! Unfortunately I did not have any of the stickers for sale. But I have a body and complete decals set to build for myself. Just need time to finish it. I am currently investing all my time into Tamiya buggys...

Beautiful build!!
I’m going to be putting a Durga together soon, did you buy the 3racing parts direct?
All hop ups show as unavailable on their site.
Unfortunately not, just bought a used Durga to get the 3racing parts.

I painted the body next. Tamiya wants to use red window decals, but I decided to paint them in translucent red.
As it is more difficult than I thought to find suitable wheels, I decided to use the Tamiya Dual Blocks. I still had them and visually they fit well to the body. Probably not the best choice for our sand pit, but we'll see.And here is the final result:

This chassis is a beauty with all these Hop-Ups
Yes it is. Still missing the carbon steering link. Maybe a friend of mine could get one in japan next time

However, I have made good progress with the DB-01 and it is now more a DB-01RRR than an R. First of all, I have finished the rear end. The high-traction swingarms are installed here. I don't know if they are necessary, but as I got them I had to use them.
The front end is also equipped with double cardans and the high-traction sway bars. So up to now everything has worked well.
The shocks were next in line. I have such good experience with the Big Bore Aeration on my other buggies that no other dampers are worth considering. And they look simply stunning!
For the electronics, I wanted something that would fit into the era of the DB-01. So I chose a LRP X11 10.5T motor with a Nosram Matrix ESC. This should have enough power and still not be too rough to the chassis.
Since the LRP motors were already known for their heat emission and the chassis is very tightly sealed, I mounted a fan to dissipate the heat.
The next step is to finish the body and I still have to think about the wheels. The rims of the Black Avante do not fit the wheel carriers of the DB-01.

I have found a picture of my former TRF 501X. It's a pity that I sold it in the past.

The DB-01 is based on the TRF-500er series. Like the TA-05 is based on TRF415.
So low budget version of the TRF Offroad models.

Looking for a more modern Tamiya 4WD buggy, I came across the DB-01. Unfortunately, I missed out on getting a version of the DB-01RRR a couple of years ago and now these kits are no longer available anywhere. Also, most of the hop-ups are now out of stock and no longer available.
So I started looking for a base that already contained some of the tuning parts and finally found what I was looking for, even though the condition was terrible.
The first step is to disassemble and clean all the parts. Next is to inspect them and make a shopping list. I'm sure there will be one or two more parts to come, but this is a good way to start:
The original DB-01R uses an additional motor heat sink under the motor. However, I decided to go for the tub of the DB-01RRR, as normal lipos can be used here and a fan will certainly provide better cooling than the aluminium part. All in all, I will not take any plastic parts from the original chassis, as fortunately they are still available for purchase.
The blue motor mount looks so much better than the original silver one. Even if you won't see much of it later.
The next step is to assemble the gear differentials and install the slipper.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the original Tamiya carbon shock mounts anywhere. But I am so far pleased with the parts from 3racing.
So far so good, next the double cardan shafts are waiting to be installed....

The last step was to mount the wheels and adjust the body. This is attached with magnetic holders avoiding drilling holes.
The original wheels of the CR-01 are very small, so I changed to larger crawler wheels. These also guarantee additional ground clearance.
Of course, matching number plates must not be missing.
The windows are still clear, because I will eventually add a cockpit. But for the moment, the CR-01 is ready for its first drive!

That looks fantastic! What´s your plan for the bodyshell/livery?
And I remember so well the article from Tamiya Germany with the Hilux climbing up the Großglockner!
Epic!
I will do the Unimog body in an used look. It is almost done, just have to fit the body posts.

And there we go...
The next step was to complete the axles. My CR-01 is to have a 4WS steering system, and because of the extra weight, the reinforced steering axles were installed.
Then I continued with the dampers. Tamiya specifies the TXT tuning shocks as an hop-up option for the CR-01 chassis. Even though I am not convinced of the function of the reservoir, I chose this one.
The next step took me several days. Initially I wanted to install the short barrel springs. However, with these there is hardly any spring compression left. So I switched to the stock springs. Unfortunately, these are also coated white. Because of my colour concept, I had to change this and spent days of sanding, bating and polishing.
Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures of the assembly of the gearbox. Here I used an aluminium differential housing in combination with the Tamiya heat sink. All parts are also anodised in black. For the motor I chose a Hobbywing Fusion Pro with integrated ESC.
And here is the current status after the wiring is completed.

Very cool. Was it easy to anodize the parts? I'd love to turn some blue hop-up parts to black.
I can't tell you because I haven't done it myself. I hired a professional company to do it. The old anodised layer has to be removed first before a new one is applied. It is important to protect the threads from the acid so that you can still use them afterwards.

Crawlers are normally not my favourite RC cars, but they still have a special kind of fascination for me. It must have been in 2020 when I bought the Tamiya CR-01 chassis with Unimog 406 body. A lot of time has passed since then, during which I have been looking for tuning parts. I didn't want to start the build until I had all the parts, because I didn't want to disassemble the chassis for ten times.
I also used the time in between to have many of the silver hop-up parts anodised in black to give it a clean look.
After I came across the following article in an old Tamiya magazine from 1983, it was clear that I finally had to realise my crawler project.
The assembly starts with the frame, I used the Tamiya mechanism deck and a carbon battery holder. I am especially happy to still got the original Tamiya aluminium side frames.
When assembling the two axles, I also avoided the plastic parts of the kit, instead I used a solid metal housing with the reinforced axles from Tamiya.
To get a little more ground clearance, I installed portal axles from 3 Racing. But not without anodising them black and fitting them with ball bearings first.
First parts are done, stay tuned for more....

Cool build.
Why did you go with the gear diff versus the ball diffs?
I prefer the lower maintenance requirement. In addition, the gear diff can easily be converted to a spool.

Sorry to bring this up from the past, I just found your video on youtube. I noticed the cooling fan for the motor. How did you mount the cooling fan? I thought I caught a glimpse of a bracket mount inside the motor area?
Thanks, I have mounted one servo stand to the Front bumper. This hold the cooling Fan, which is really very effective!

Is the bumper the old racing bumper? Or a 3 d printed alternative? Can´t spot it from the pic!
It is a 3d printed alternative created by wtcc5

Amazing body and chassis! And the black rims also fit superb to the rest.
If I had the choice, I would take your „25th Anniversary Commemorative TA02“ instead of the „45th Anniversary“ Porsche 934
Thanks, it's your choice. All the parts are still available. 😉

In the end it went really fast. A fan should provide the necessary cooling and a foam bumper was placed at the front.
The most time consuming part was the completion of the body. As an anniversary model, the body should be something special. Therefore I decided to use the Nissan Skyline Axia R32 body.
And here it is now my personal 25th Anniversary commemorative model TA-02:

Finally the missing parts arrived, so I could finish the chassis:
Meanwhile I got antoher LRP QC3, so I changed the ESC once again. The wiring was quite challenging, but now I am happy with the outcome.
Unfortunately the "new" TA-02 Carbon Conversion Set (Tamiya 47479) isn`t available yet. But I have already preordered a set, to exchange the top deck.
The next step is to install a motor fan and complete the front bumper. After that I will work on my Anniversary body, contrary to Tamiya`s Anniversary Edition this will not be a Porsche.

As I am still waiting for some parts, I decided to take care of the electronics. Unfortunately the blue color of the Tamiya Super Stock doesn't really match the rest. So I got myself a LRP V10 17 turn bushed motor, because it has the same technical data as the Super Stock and looks much better.
I also had to change the color of the controller. The first step was to disassemble the ESC:
All cables were replaced by black ones and the case was painted black.
A lot of work just for this look:

After a few people on facebook complained that I had no rear swaybar, I had to change that of course.
However, I have decided to go for a thinner stabilizer, this also fits better in color.
After fixing this issue, work goes on. For the bottom I use titanium screws, on the top I stay with blue aluminum screws.
So far so good, but I am not happy with the battery holder, since I plan to drive shorty batteries this must be changed. New parts are already under construction, now I will first take care of the rest of the electronics.

Yes you are right. Standard tamiya bearings doesn't fit. But it is no problem to get fitting aftermarket bearings.
You need 5x4x11mm flanged bearings for the inside and 5x4x12mm for the outside.

@Quincy: The rear transmission gimbals are not symmetrical. you had to assemble the triangles upside down. they go backwards. he should be straight.

All you have to do is pull the nipple through the Tab and turn it all the way up with the little crank; An arrow appears immediately and then they press on it and the tube is straight!
