Great project, Super Astute is really 90´s Tamiya quality. Hicaps will fit perfectly, and the planetary diff will just laugh about your motor choice.;)

My buddy ran a 15x4 engine back in the day, and never had to replace the diff... (Avante quality).

Already a plan for the painting?;)

Happy to hear that the diff will make no problems.

    Regarding to your painting question:

First I don`t liked the original Super Astute painting and I was thinking of changing it to a Special Astute Black Edition version. But meanwhile I think I will keep it originally...

  2. As I´ve got just little time, there are just little Updates:

    spacer.png

For easier adjustments the turnbuckles have been changed. Unfortunately the 50mm version is not available as a Titanium version.

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

But it also looks nice with the "blue touch". This fits also very well to the blue spacers, I don`t see the point why to use the G1 parts Tamiya recommends.

The original deck has a lot of flex, maybe this will be an advantage on the low traction surface we are going to race on. Otherwise I will change to carbon lower deck. Also I am still working on the double cardan in the rear even if some people maybe thinking this is over the top. :D

  3. I hope too

Going to use a 23t pinion gear, that will make 9.22:1 and no heating problems.

Regarding to your ball bearing question: I don`t know  Have them already in my spare box, most Tamiya Standard, only the ones from the diff outdrives are strange size. But for some reasons I also have these sealed bearings in stock

  4. After having so much fun with our Stadium Trucks, it is time for something new. During the last outdoor run, a legendary Dyna Storm joined our session. So I decided it is time to build my Super Astute. I found this kit NIB some month ago in an onlineshop of switzerland. Even it is a 2018 Re-Release it is already a rare item. Thanks to my friend @wtcc5, who managed shipping. Unfortunately the packaging of this Re-Releases is not identical to the original ones, but they also look good.

    spacer.png

After starting the build, I forgot to take more pics, because I really felt in love with the kit. Some improvements were planned even before starting the assemble, like replacing these dog bones in the rear against CVDs or even TRF double cardan. I also will try to fit the VQS Hi-Caps in the Super Astute. And like always some more ideas are comming during building the car. So I have to change the turnbuckles to adjustable ones.

What I really like about the kit, is the fact that Tamiya uses black screws and ball bearings (unfortunately some are missing). But this causes no trouble, because I am going to change the ball bearings to sealed ones, except the ones in the gear box. And this is the a status right now:

    spacer.png

Actually I am a little bit concerned about the diff. It looks so fragile with it`s tiny gears in it. In comparison to the ball bearings, it is really small! Hope it will last for a time, as I am going to use a black Sports Tuned or a silver Torque Tuned Motor. Still not sure what will be the better choice.

    spacer.png

As opposed to this it will be certain that I can`t follow all the Tamiya rules (especially Nr.5).

  5. During some Offroad Action time with @wtcc5 there had been no news on the FF-01 addiction.

But meanwhile I could add the missing Ford Mondeo to my collection. Even if I am no big fan of this body, it is a must have for my collection:

  6. It all started with a purchase at an online trading platform. Someone found this item in his attic, didn`t knew what it is, so I could make a good deal. Some days later, the postman sneaked around the corner with a "nice pink" suitcase with the Stadium Blitzer inside.

    spacer.png

It must had been storaged for decades. The car itself was in quite good conditions. I think the Stadium Thunder had been banished into the attic, after the rear tires were gone (the car came with an mounted 15T brushed motor).

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

Unfortunately the previous owner decided to paint the body in his own design. Even it is in good conditions, this will have to be replaced. If anyone of you want this "Low Bucks Racing" body, contact me, you can have it for free.

    spacer.png

After disassembling and cleaning all these dusty parts, some had to been replaced (e.g. body mounts and the missing battery hold). In spite of every affort I could`nt get my hands on a new rear damper stay, as the original one was broken. So I decided to modify it a little bit. After shortening the broken part, I adapted some steering posts from a FF-01. To improve the performance I equipped the Blitzer with some TRF dampers, which are looking quite well in combination with the silver accents.

    spacer.png

After completing the gear box I had to realize that the motor plate doesn`t fit tigthly. As we are going to race in a very sandy place, this is no acceptable solution. Ebay offers a nice alternative, combined with some improved cooling. This required some modifying on the rear gear box, but the results are worthy of this work.

    spacer.png

The Stadium Blitzer will be powered by a Tamiya UGT Tuned Motor, even if Tamiya strightly recommend to use no other motor than the silver can. So I made some changes to improve the handling. The obligatory steering mod, by flipping the uprights, in order to reduce the bump steer. Also the DT-02 turnbuckle Set (Tamiya 53828) fits perfectly for the Blitzer. Finally I mounted CVDs instead of the original dogbones and of course the chassis is fully equipped with ball bearings.

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

As mentioned before the Stadium Blitzer came with a "customized" body. So it had to be changed to give the Stadium Blitzer the original look. Unfortunately the Stadium Blitzer body isn`t available any more. But there is a good alternative: Tamiya 1825831. It is the spare body set for the Tamiya CR-01 Rock Socker. The body is completely the same and comes precut and undrilled.
As original 90`s decals are rare, I choosed MCI decals once more. A positive side effect is that it has the original 90s design and not the changes made at the Re-Release.
Masking the body was a real mess and painting took quite a long time. But this step is well worth the trouble.

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

After attaching the decals and mounting a new tire set, there is no comparsion to the previous look.

    spacer.png

Finally I added the electronic components. Just choosed a cheap brushed ESC with Lipo-cut-off combined with the Tamiya UGT Tuned Motor. The first indoor test promised a nice performance, maybe I have to add a wheelie bar 😄

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

So the mission "Stadium Blitzer" is accomplished, can`t wait to see Salty Sam Snookums on the track...

@Quincy used a Tamiya Super Stock Motor Type-BZ 23T #53930. He replaced the fragile and precious aluminum diffs with the standard ones. That is all I know. I am sure he will add some info later. He is a very busy man these days...

Yes I am using the Super Stock BZ motor, also equipped it with Ball bearings. Diffs are from the Manta Ray (gear diffs front and rear). I also got the same problem with missing titanium screws, but I got them. Ordered all over the world. Unfortunately I got sand in the rear gear housing, so there will be some additional work waiting for me.

Are you sure it´s still a runner Quincy? Look at that bottomside and think about scratches?

But turned out great, looking very modern with classic charme...

    Kind regards,

    Matthias

Thank you! I have used the chassis already last year for outdoor races. I will protect it with Tamiya protection seal (53469).

This is beautiful! The all black anodized parts are really cool. You should have anodized the damper bodies and servo mount too.

Thank you! Iam thinking about changing the dampers to Black TRF ones. The servo mount will be anodized the next time.

  10. Time for the Runner!

After a long time I had spend some time into the runner of the 2021 season. Got some option parts:

    spacer.png

As I don`t like too many different colours on a car, all parts got new anodizing:

    spacer.png

Hope this will improve cooling on hot sommer days.

    spacer.png

As mentioned before I am going to use a Primera body. Got a new body set from "Down Under" and equipped it with the Ride precut tires.

  11. As I am actually spending most of my time in building my outdoor runner, I can`t resist buying more FF-01 :D

First I got the Jaccs Civic, after already owning two Jaccs Accord Upgraded Special, this is the missing Jaccs in my collection:

    spacer.png

It came already finished, the body has some minor damages, but the chassis seems to be never run.

    spacer.png

I am quite happy that the body is in good conditions. Actually I don`t want another decal mess

    spacer.png

The next one is the Volvo 850 JTCC. I already own one, but this came with unpainted body and never run chassis, too. The price was very fair, so I didn`t think twice. Here is what I got:

    spacer.png

It also came with the box

  12. As I am going to build a new body for my FF-01 Runner, my Alfa body needs another Chassis. First I planned to build a FF-01 for this body too, but the Alfa originally came with the FF-02 Chassis.

It was a tough choice, because I really don`t like the FF-02. Also don`t like the TL-01 because of it`s layout. But the fact that I already own some FF-01s, FF-03s and one FF-04 had lead to the decision that I have to own at last one FF-02.

    So here it is:

My fear is always breaking parts.  I have two cars.  both are brand new never run.. one is so brittle that i fear even looking at it, the other is my version of a TRF spec but too pretty to run lol

I don`t worry about that, got enough spare parts for keep them running.

The ff01 list doesn't end eh?  I can get over how many you have.

    Actually I have 12 finished FF-01 projects.

Nr 13 Laguna is still waiting for decals

Nr 14 Golf IV waiting for the build

Nr. 15 Indoor runner and Nr. 16 Outdoor Runner are already in the planning stage

  15. No FF-01 collection is complete without a New Beetle.

Luckily I got my hands on a NIB kit.

    spacer.png

But I decided just to use the body and save the chassis parts for another project. Accidentally I have a recently restored FF-01 in storage, which had only to be equipped with the fitting wheels.

    spacer.png

As I have build the FF-01 Golf III VR6 recently, the suggested painting scheme of the New Beetle is a little bit boring. It should be a little more "racier".

After searching the web, I found out, that there has been an own New Beetle race class at the end of the 90s, called "ADAC New Beetle Cup".

    spacer.pngspacer.png

So the decision has been made and I was starting to look for a fitting Beetle wing set and could finally acquire a set. The rest is merely a matter of form. And here it is:

  16. Meanwhile I could finish a quick "Re-Build". Got a FF-01 Golf III VR6 in quite good conditions:

    spacer.png

Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, I had just forgotten to make better ones.

The previous owner obviously had the opinion that the Golf looks better with yellow stripes. I don`t agree. So I removed the stripes and also the paint of the windows:

    spacer.png

Already looking much better. I painted just a thin layer of paint to the windows and got the correct wheels.

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

Unfortunately some decals are worn out, others even missing. So maybe I can get a new decals sheet someday. But I am quite happy with this "Low Budget" FF-01. As I could sell the rims the previous owner gave me and I just need to buy the original rims, that is a 30€ FF-01 Golf III!

Looking good. For the polished lip on those wheels to look more realistic I can recommend the Molotow chrome paint pen. It's way easier to use than Alclad airbrush paint and looks just as shiny.

Thank you, I will try it the next time. Sounds good!

  18. Very very big thanks to my friend wtcc5! As my Castrol Primera came without wheels, wtcc5 surprise me with this birthday present

    spacer.png

So I can finally complete my "new out of box build" Primera Castrol:

    spacer.png

I have backed the metallic green with Pearl white, to get it a bit more shiny.

At the beginning of my FF-01 addiction, I felt in love with the Accords, but now I prefer the Primeras
