    Hotshot, kit no.5847

Hi, got a project car, it is somewhat in poor condition. In box is states KIT NO. 5847 but I don't really find anything useful with that. I believe it is original 1985 model, in club pages there is manual for 58047 which looks to be right, but that extra zero confuses me... Anyone able to provide some info on this matter. Also tips how to get suspension parts would be valuable. Thanks for you help!
  3. Thought it would be cool to start a thread about weird or unusal RC models. I came across a "War Rig" posted by MadInventor posted in the following thread: This is the strangest thing I've seen yet and got me thinking, does anyone own anything more unusual, standard or custom?

    Blazing Blazer Resto Build

I love the three speeds, but the Blazer is special for me - no idea why. A bit like the Scorcher I guess, it's just a classic look. This has been on my to-do list for ages and I bought the project from TC member Kokuzu. Original pics:- On of the things I really liked about this one was that it came with a hand made alloy roof (I believe it's a J-Man work of art):- This makes it a bit special Unfortunately, it was packed terribly (wrapped in one piece of newspaper and then chucked into a box) so suffered not inconsiderable damage in transit from Germany to the UK. Radio box was smashed, front body mount bent beyond repair and a few other things. Annoying, but not a crisis as I have an immaculate condition radio box and picked up a body mount on eBay. If you look at the body pic above you'll also see that someone at some point has cut a slot in the bonnet - no idea why. Anyway, that's first repair. I have a few extra goodies too - like a NIB set of tires (I have 2 of these, so got all 4):- ... amongst other goodies :). More info to follow as I go....

    30th Anniversay Cat

1987 was a landmark year for Cats. While Schumacher's Cat XLS was winning the IFMAR 4WD OR title, Traxxas was launching the first hobby grade RTR in the form of the Tom Cat, or just simply the Cat. It is a car heavily influenced by Tamiya - a Grasshopper style chassis & trailing transmission, a body shell reminiscent of the Fox and Yellow CVA style dampers, albeit with a unique way of adjusting spring rates. Inspired by an article on URC, I plan to restore and gently modify this car to race at next years Iconic Revival - 30 years after the Cat was released. This is what I purchased on eBay recently vs. what I would like to create...

    Nordic Vintage Challenge

Last weekend the fifth edition of the Nordic Vintage Challenge was held in Eskilstuna, Sweden. With 57 entries it was the biggest so far and we're hoping to attract even more enthusiasts next time! A bit of history: late 2013 a Swede by the name of Tomas Karlsson (TamiyaTomas on this forum) thought it would be fun to organise a competition for vintage rc cars. Because there seemed to be enough interest for such an event, the first Nordic Vintage Challenge was held in February 2014 at Ekilstuna Modellbilklubb (about 70 miles west of Stockholm). Back then 3 off-road classes were organised: Classic, 2WD and 4WD (classic allowed both 2WD and 4WD cars). The second NVC was held a couple of months later in the summer of 2014 at the Oslo Modellbilklubb in Norway, courtesy of Svein Harald Ytternes (SHY69 on this forum). This time drivers were competing in 5 different classes: 2WD, 2WD Classic, 4WD, 4WD Classic and Big Wheeler. 2015 also saw two NVC's being held: one in spring and one in autumn. By now the tandem of Tomas and Svein Harald worked as a well-oiled machine, with input from other enthusiast through the swedish rc-forum. After NVC #4 it was decided to scrap the Big Wheeler class (at least for now) and try something new. The new class had to be very accessible and cheap, as to attract people from all ages and with all kinds of budgets. And so the idea for a DT-02 class was born (well, let's not try to pretend we invented the wheel here ) under the name of Plastic Fantastic. The rules for PF: - Only 2010 Holiday Buggy (red and blue) and 2011 Sand Rover/Street Rover/Kumamon Buggy allowed - Hop-ups limited to ball bearings, 540 Jonson silvercan motor, shock mount brace, hinge pins for A-arms, Tamiya oil shocks (C.V.A. short set II and C.V.A. mini set II) - Go wild on the body (but keep it recognizable as a HB or SR as no alternative bodies are allowed) This class was a succes with 10 contestants. Training and qualifier heats were held in two groups and the 3 finals were held in one big group. Racing was intense and heaps of fun. With all cars having more or less the same qualities, it was really up to the drivers. Never knew you could have such fearsome racing at such low speeds At the next NVC the Plastic Fantastic class will be organised again, this time probably on both days of the race. While the other classes are not Tamiya-specific, there are quite some people competing with Tamiya cars there too. This year we had two Hot-Trick Hotshots, two Egresses, a 'regular' HotShot and a Super Hotshot in 4WD Classic and a modified NovaFox (raced by yours truly) and FAV in the 2WD Classic, while 2 Top Force Evos were raced in the 'regular' 4WD class. So far we've had drivers from Sweden, Norway and Belgium but we're looking to expand So if you want to know more about this event or are interested in participating, don't hesitate to ask questions! Here are some clips of the Plastic Fantastic finals (extracts) as well as links to footage of the entire two days of racing (you'll have to search and skip if you only want to see the PF footage). - PF Final #1: - PF Final #2:

  23. Few things illustrate the passing of time quite like an unfinished R/C project. In fact, sometimes they terrify me. I seem to have so many "projects", or things I "plan to do", that occasionally I'll open a box and find a car in it, and recall that I'd intended to do something with that car literally years ago, and forgot about it... "Can it really be 3 years since I last worked on this car? Wasn't it just a few months ago that I painted the driver? What else have I been doing in that time...?" The answer to that last question is of course, lots: research, hunting for things online, writing, emailing, fixing other cars, buying, selling. And of course, composing new time-wasting threads on Tamiyaclub to talk about the time I've been wasting. But still, there are some projects that sit idle for years and years....and years. Waiting for the motivation, the spare parts, or just the right rainy weekend with no other responsibilities... How many R/C projects do you have that have been untouched for years? And will you be alive long enough to finish them? To end on a positive note, I'd also hate to run out of things to do. So maybe life is really about never finishing?
  24. ...you can't bring yourself to let any of them go? For example. I think I probably have 30 boxed sets of Super Champ, Sand Scorcher and Rough Rider tyres in total (accumulated over 25 years). Perhaps it's ~$1000 worth, just in tyres. But I love the boxes so much, I could never bring myself to sell any. (More likely I'll end up with a few more in the years ahead). Ah, the allure of vintage. Especially if it's some car or part you pined for as kid... Anyone else accumulated several of the same thing (more than they need), yet have precisely zero plans to sell any of them? After all, if it's some item you love, and you paid for them all, you can fill a swimming pool with them as far as I am concerned - I totally get it H.
  25. Hey gang! Well, I decided to try something fun today live on the internet with our love and past time hobby Tamiya. A website called Twitch.tv allows people to stream creative hobbies to anyone who wants to watch. I usually play video games on Twitch but decided to try my creative thumb and stream some live vintage Tamiya restoration, painting, repairing and anything else that I have on the backlog just waiting to be finished. I have never seen anyone cover anything Tamiya on Twitch, so I figured why not be the first! Would love to have ya stop by and say hello! My handle is AmericanPixel on Twitch and you can view my channel here: twitch.tv/AmericanPixel I go live every day at 4pm (PST). If you pop in, be sure to shoot me a follow and say hi in chat and tell me you came from the forum! It's 100% free and you don't even have to register to watch!
