  1. I started using eBay around 1999, when it was still a novelty, and sellers were turning their old stuff into real money. I’m sitting here looking at the $34 offer for my old 1/5 tires listed at $40, questioning the madness of haggling over $6...With eBay’s user base now consisting of noobs w/ 0-5 transactions, ppl/bots looking to scam, folks with more $ than smarts (or just enough not to have to care), & sellers setting eye-watering prices...Oh yeah, and these new users expect Amazon-level service – unrestricted returns, immediate shipping, etc., or you’ll be accused of being a scammer (over $10) & threatened with disputes (which the buyer will win, so you can’t even really trust feedback anymore), etc. ... So to my questions - 1) Now that eBay doesn’t allow you to view sales history beyond 30 days, where do you find a true average purchase price for rare items not really sold anyplace else? Take the market for the Technigold motor for instance. You can get a new one for $350 here; but a used one may vary by $100 even in similar condition. It’s a total crap shoot. I have items that haven’t shown up on eBay for years, with no idea how to price them. 2) Where do you find the same kind of experience that made eBay the “last man standing” while the dot-com universe imploded around them? Not only “standing,” but making acquisitions north of $100M in 2000, when fancy tech workers like me were showing up to work to find a cardboard box on their desks. The online equivalent of that little hobby shop outside of some random Japanese city that posted on Yahoo Auctions once in a while... 3) Posting anything <$100 on eBay doesn’t seem worth it, and local options like OfferUp or FB Marketplace have driven me nearly to madness dealing with locals for whom showing up at a certain time and “price is firm” are totally foreign concepts. What do you do with R/C (or really any) stuff you need to get rid of, but is too valuable to discard & not valuable enough to bother selling? I’m clearing out my place & donating tons of stuff, but after losing my job, I really need to bring in some $$ for some of this stuff. Thank you!

  5. My neighbor had some vintage R/C aging in his basement and he recently passed away. I'm helping his wife sell some of his models (aside from the 959, which I'm keeping). Have a look at the Ebay auctions - will be adding more over the next days. Currently there are a couple Kyoshos, a Holiday Buggy body, and a Panda nitro truck. Among the items not yet listed are an original SRB F150 Ranger and a Kyosho Blizzard. In addition there are a ton of vintage static models. p.s. - It's been a while but I'll be back on Tamiyaclub again + it's nice to 'see' you guys! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kyosho-Optima-Vintage-1985-Good-Condition-See-Pictures/333356896783 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamiya-Holiday-Buggy-Body-Original-Vintage-1980-See-Pictures/333356936054 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kyosho-Double-Dare-4WD-4x4x4-Dual-Motor-Vintage-1988-New-Built-Never-Run/333358974329 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Panda-Pickup-Race-Truck-Vintage-1993-Nitro-Glow-Manual-Box-Top-Included/333359008411
  6. I managed to get a job lot of Madcap Parts including a shocks and a shell (the bits I need) on eBay BUT (there has to be one with me of late an eBay!!!!!) the seller came back to me saying the postage was £17 and they only allowed £10 on their listing. mmmmmm, my helpful answer was who are you sending it with? Try Parcelforce 48H as I sent a Traxxas T Maxx (massive nitro monster truck) tracked signed for with £100 insurance for £16 - If you drop it off at any postoffice. The reply was DPD. I have not replied and they have still not posted it 5 days later!!!!! Its not really my problem that they undervalued the postage, its theirs. BUT I do still want the parts. What would you do? They are a vintage seller who specialises in cloths. So surely they know how the "game" of auctions work?
  7. The seller keeps dropping the prices randomly. I got 2x 5500mah 3s for £7.99 and 2x 3300mah 3s for £6.99! They had 4x 1500mah for £5.99 the other day too. I've got a couple of Floureon packs and they have been fine for me so it might be worth it for a bargain. It's the same seller I got mine off over a year ago too. They use different accounts but the accounts are all "based" in Southall UK so you can tell it's the same seller. Almost certainly a Chinese seller but mine came from Germany so they have stock in Europe at least. UPDATE: Apparently they are available on US ebay too?
  8. Hi folks, A few years back I posted a few photos here on the forum about my rather sad original #58001 Porsche: https://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/52184-is-this-a-58001-porsche I never got around to doing anything with it since then (my focus is offroad RC) so I've listed it on starting at a dollar: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vintage-original-58001-Tamiya-Porsche-Turbo-RSR-934-RC-car-DOLLAR-START-/122706228385 or search for "Vintage original 58001 Tamiya Porsche Turbo RSR 934 RC car DOLLAR START" eBay item# 122706228385 I'm in Australia, but happy to ship to many countries in the world. Thanks for looking, Steve (1944GPW)
  9. In some countries, eBay shows "Product Reviews" for things people are selling. This is part of eBay's (misguided) effort to cast everything on it's site as a "retail" item. And to become a corporate shopping site like Amazon.com. Instead of just being a portal for people to flog their old wares and collectibles (which is how eBay started). Most of you know this already. eBay has been heading down this path for many years. I still try to use the site for vintage goodies. But eBay's "Product Reviews" are an example of where their Amazon.com-wannabe mentality clashes with using the site to sell old stuff. Take this NIB 1979 vintage Sand Scorcher kit, on eBay for example (I am not the seller)... Nice kit. But notice the star rating and the 22 reviews? Those are not about the vintage Sand Scorcher kit. They are not even about the remake Sand Scorcher kit. A handful of them might be, but overall the rating appears to be built from anything on eBay that has the words "Sand Scorcher" in it, where the review box has sprung into action and people have thrown a comment in. From cars, to wheels, to bumpers, to decals, to chassis, to repro... if the seller used the right keywords and details, it might get lumped under "Sand Scorcher" in eBay's dumb database. Here are some reviews which now appear on the page of the vintage NIB Sand Scorcher... If you're the seller of something unique and vintage, the risk is your listing might end up displaying a rating (good or bad) from stuff that is unrelated to what you are selling. Luckily, it seems the seller can turn the Product Review feature off. And since I only just found this, I thought I'd share how to do it... Go to: "My eBay" Click on "Account" tab Click on "Site Preferences" To the right of "Sell Your Item form and listings", click on "Show" To the right of "Show product ratings on your listings" (if available) click "Edit" Click the radio button for "Do not display product ratings on my listings" Click "Submit" If you're selling anything vintage in particular, I would suggest turning this feature off to ensure your vintage goods aren't associated with reviews for modern retail, re-re, remake, repro stuff. H.
  10. What have you got your hands on that someone else built to then find they somehow managed to completely mess it up? Here's what I've found on a newly built CR-01 Rock Socker from Ebay: 1. They don't appear to have used any thread lock anywhere. Result = everything gets loose and falls apart. 2. The rear springs were on the front, and the fronts on the rear. Result = not much difference to be fair. 3. The front and rear hub carriers and knuckles are secured on the output ends of both front and rear axles with 10mm screws instead of 8mm screws. Result: the screws make contact with the steel axle shaft. Swarfe city inside the axles and a nice groove on the shafts. Every one of them...where did the 8mm screws get used instead? Who knows... 4. The front stabilizer rod must have been forgotten during the build - never mind just stuff it in later. Result = rod bent like a banana. 5. Can't get your spanner on those ball nuts to hold them while tightening the srew? Why not just grip them with pliers instead. Result = scratched up ball connectors. 6. Put the ball sockets on the front servo plate in the wrong place. Result = fouls the back of the servo, pushing it forward and the servo saver fouling the protection bars. 7. Put the front suspension mounts on the axles upside down. Result = the axle link arms foul the mounts and suspension travel is reduced to about 1cm. 8. Loose a 22mm screw for attaching the damper to the chassis? Just use a 28mm screw instead. 9. Put spacers on the link arms on one side but not the other. For now I've given up taking the model apart further as there were no ball bearings fitted so I've ordered a set...there's no point thread locking anything until they arrive. I also got another newly built CC-01 lately - this seller did a much better job but still managed to put washers on the wrong side of a ball joint. Still nothing like the mistakes made on the CR-01. Let's hear your stories!

  14. I occasionally hear rumblings about increased customs tariffs/duties/fees for those in the UK, but wasn't aware of "Brexit": https://www.journalism.co.uk/press-releases/brexit-will-hit-british-international-shoppers-hard-with-devalued-pound-and-increased-import-taxes/s66/a620596 For the bulk of TC members in the UK -- Will this have a serious effect on your current buying habits?

  16. Got a sand rover on there and someone with 0 feedback is bidding on it, I think it might put others off?, as they might think it is a shill bid. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222050624785?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 and some DT-02 parts. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222052834855?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Also got some VW books on there in other items.

  18. I've taken $25 off the price for this, now $275 which I think is a bargain for this, and will consider reasonable offers... would love to get it sold by this weekend so I can get it shipped out by Monday. http://www.ebay.com/itm/331780011859 Here are some pics... and I've added a pic in a reply to show how sizeable this thing is compared to some other kits. It may be 1:14 scale but it's about as massive a box as a vintage Blackfoot. Here's a pic with some of my other sealed NIB kits to illustrate the size. I'm not embellishing when I say $275 is a bargain. FYI - to my amazement, since it's the only other one I've ever seen in sealed NIB condition, there happens to be another of the exact same item on ebay currently. It's priced $150 higher... helping to illustrate how good / fair of a price I'm asking: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1989-TAMIYA-1-14-Midnight-PUMPKIN-QD-Sealed-NIB-/171820060041 Alrighty - done and sold! Agreed to an offer of $250 -- a solid deal for the buyer and I get to handle the logistics over the weekend. Win-win.
  19. Nice NIP decals now surplus to my need due to buying complete body sets or finished buggies... make me a 'Best Offer' and tell me you're from TC in the notes! Hey guys - if anyone reading this is working on or needs/wants a bunch of good NOS Traxxas Cat / Tomcat parts I've got an auction going for some, including a manual, decals, tires, gearbox, and a bunch of other stuff. Looks like it may sell for cheap too... which is fine by me. I just need to get it out of my house! My Cat is already fully restored... http://www.ebay.com/itm/331774572417
  22. Any questions, please ask. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221985072641?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  23. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=21101 14. 24. For a while it has been nagging at me every time I walk into the garage and see my shelves of vintage shelfers the fact that two of them aren't completely vintage originals. Specifically the Hornet and Frog. The Frog is all original, but has a re-re body + decals. But the Hornet I built before I developed my collection enough to really divide between runners and shelfers and it's mostly re-re including the body - it even has a 2.4ghz Rx and an ESC fitted. Which means it's basically a runner, and that's where it lives now. I'll build a re-re Frog to use the current "shelfer" Frog shell and locate an original Frog body set at some point when I find the right deal to jump on. Well, on the Hornet front the "right deal to jump on" popped up a couple weeks ago on eBay as a partially built vintage original Hornet kit, which had only been barely started being built and was complete - in other words perfect for a vintage build, without having to sacrifice an intact NIB kit or pay the premium for one. What I didn't realize at the time is that this particular Hornet kit was an Mk1! I didn't really even think about it until reading through Hibernaculum's excellent resource on telling the differences between the different vintage makes and the differences with the re-re. But I was curious so I had a look and lo and behold I got my hands on a complete Mk1 Hornet kit that I intended to build anyway for $100 + 14.50 postage. And... as a bonus it came with a brand new in box hump battery, which alone was worth the majority of the price paid for the lot and didn't need so I sold it and was snatched up quickly for a good price ($55) by our own Yonez, PLUS the Hornet came with a 1980 Tamiya Guide Book! In other words, the Mk1 Hornet kit was essentially free. Not a bad deal! My guess is that when whoever was building it many years ago got to the part with the bare wires on the motor they closed it up and that was it. Here is a pic from the listing... and below it are my pics of the kit, battery and guidebook. Here are my pics noting the Mk1 tells, as described by Hibernaculum's website: It's interesting that the body shell and wing have nothing at all embossed in the plastic. The lexan also feels especially thick/strong to me... Here's the bonus NIB hump pack battery: and last but not least the 1980 Tamiya Guidebook!
