  1. Does anybody by any chance have Tamiya 42258 for sale? Many thanks, Justin
  2. Hi, I’m wondering if someone can explain what are the main differences between the TRF201XM and TRF211XM please. I know the TRF201XM has the aluminium chassis while the TRF211XM has the FRP chassis. Am I also right in assuming that the aluminium racing steering set 42258, the aluminium rear uprights (54245 and 54246) and various other hop ups for TRF201 can also be used on the 211XM? Many thanks Justin

  6. Hi everyone, I've been stalking this forum for about a year and been really grateful to everyone for the accrued wisdom that I've been able to tap into to help me build my Avante shelfer (first RC car I've owned since 1993!). I wanted to ask for some help /inspiration for the next phase of my project. As this is fo the shelf, it's mainly cosmetic, so might not interest everyone, but, here goes … I've built my Avante box art, and I also have Black special shell and wheel tyre set to give it an alternate look when I feel like it. Just a visual flip, not all the mechanical changes. I thought I could use one more change of style to give me some options, and I went searching for nice custom Avantes online. I think the price point means not too many people have gone far from box art with these, but I did find some interesting things. I was especially taken with @neobrunox 1/10 Azente, based on the special edition Mini 4WD variants: https://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=117752&id=24357 . As you probably know, the 1/10 black special is also based on a Mini 4WD, which has me excited as I got interested in RC as a child having been weened on Mini 4WD. So, I wondered if I could do another Avante variant that stemmed from a Mini 4wd. The idea I've settled on is to do something based on one of the styles in the Avante Mini 4wd Dress-up Sticker Set (I'm thinking the pin stripe one): and here, alongside someone's nice Azente: So here' say vision for the car, and I wondered if anyone woud like to add any imaginative suggestions or give me some advice? VISION: Both the Azente AND this dress-up sticker set mention "TXR", which is spelled out in very small letters as "Tamiya Experimental Racer". I understand that the 1/10 Avante was the first effort by the tema that became "Tamiya Racing Factory", so I'm going to imagine that TXR is an early interpretation of TRF. The colour scheme here is also reminiscent of the white/cyan/blue/pink used in later TRF models. So I thought I would style my car with these things in mind, though I'm on the fence about using much pink. I'm seeing this car as like a development version of the finished Avante, before everything was finalised, but also aiming for a race spec, rather than the 'retail spec' of the finished machine. ARTWORK: I plan to draw the graphics myself and get them printed at MCI. Anyone have any experience of MCI custom decals? Anything I should watch out for, or any recommendations for another supplier? SPONSORS: For the most part, I'll scale up the Mini 4wd stickers, but I'll try to add in a few more details and small stickers, the same as how the original Avante and Avante BS decals are not simply scaled up versions of the Mini 4WD version. If anyone could suggest some additional sponsors or details that might add some flavour of Tamiya's experimental racing division c 1988, I'd be delighted! DRIVER: Well, Paranoid Perry I guess, but open to other ideas? I found this fun article the other day which suggests maybe one of the other Tamiya drivers. This is really just silly fan fiction, but i guess that's the realm I've descended to with this project! Here's the quote: "First, be aware that I was the one chosen for this project among almost one hundred drivers. Among them, the promising Albert Attaboy who remained stuck in Baja Buggy races, Evert Edwards who had relatives working at Tamiya and who couldn't get more than the Vanquish. Even Greg Martin, who was popular thanks to the Hornet, was in the list. The most pathetic of all was undoubtely Ricky Roop." COLOURED BITS: TRF stuff tends to have some anodised cyan/blue elements. Anyone recommend some avant compliant shocks I could try out in this colour? Or any other metal parts? WHEELS: In keeping with most TRF creations, probably white wheels, but I'm after something that might have felt experimental in '88 Or could have been donated from another car at the time, as part of the development process? Perhaps some white Thunder Shot rims? Like on the Terra Scorcher? Anything more interesting out there? TYRES: I fancied doing something a bit crazy, like some slicks? If not that, perhaps some more modern looking buggy tyres, to suggest the car was ahead of its time, but that ultimately Tamiya went with the more conventional option in the release product? (sorry, in fan fiction territory again!) REAR WING and OTHER AERO BITS: I was toying with the idea of a wing fro another car. I've not seen other wings that I think really look good on other custom Avantes (you often see an astute or Egress wing, I think). I was thinking maybe something more out there like a terra scorcher wing? Other thoughts? I hope some of you find this interesting and might be willing to chip in. Once I've got started properly, I'll try tout a build thread together. Appreciate your help!
  7. Hi, I recently bought a TRF801Xt in near new condition with an electric conversion set. These machines were designed and built in the USA by Tamiya USA in an attempt to enter the highly popular 1:8 truggy market and racing scene in the States. Here in Europe however, it didn’t catch on and maybe wasn’t even ever released officially. Anyhow, I got one and it’s huuuuugggeee! Haven’t run it yet, still waiting for the ESC and motor, but in anticipation on those parts I began a hunt for spare parts. Tamico do have some official replacement parts on stock, but that’s about the only supplier in the EU it seems... However, because the design is very much based on other existing, sometimes very succesful truggy designs there may be the possibility of interchangeable parts amongst types and/or brands. I already found some tips online; - The arms are of the same dimensions as the Xray XT8 arms. The hubs will not fit however, so you need those as well. The Xray arms work with the standard CVA driveshafts apparently. The Xray arms are much more durable. - With the Xray XT8 arms you can use the Kyosho ST-RR hubs apparently. - The shock bladders are leaky and not up to the task. The Losi LOSA5430 bladders are a 1:1 fit and are far better. - The shockboots from Losi also seem to fit. No part nr known to me. I’m still looking for some other interchangeable parts, like: - spur gear (center diff gear) - shockshaft o-rings (3,5 mm?) - bodies - skid plates - shocks in general There are so many truggies out there that SEEM almost exactly the same, so there MUST be some interchangeability amongst them. Who can help make this thread a go-to place for every TRF801X(t) enthousiast who’s looking for a reasonably priced way to keep their truggy running?
  8. As the weather is not great means I cannot get any work done on any of my real car projects I decided to take my NIB TRF 801X out of the storage. First glance there are so many parts more so compared to my 1/8 TXG MKI kit I built some 18 years ago. Will post pictures of the build process. I have seen some others build thread and they take huge anount of pictures for every little step I will try and keep it to the point
  9. That's what Fred Medel - the marketing manager for Tamiya America has to say. Read more here.
  10. Now sold, thanks. James. After picking up a super cheap TA05 V2 today I decided it was time to sell my FF03. It comes with a few hop ups including tuned springs and anti roll bars ( also includes the spare bars ) , Alloy motor mount plate, Alloy spur gear holder, official Tamiya hex screws almost throughout (with a few exceptions) and also fitted with Tamiya Reinforced Slicks Type B2, with TA04 Pro inner shaped foam inserts and Team Losi White Dish Wheels. Also includes the original motor mount and a spare set of wheel hexes. I decided to leave in the LRP Quantum ESC, Reedy KR 12x2 Motor and a steering servo. It is good condition, the base of the chassis is a bit scuffed up, but would make a great runner/club racer car. Selling cheap on here before it goes on ebay. £75 posted within the UK. If needed I can swap the wheels and tyres for kit standard Tamiya 6 spoke gunmetal wheels and tyres from the Raybrig HSV 010 kit for £70 posted. Open to offers / possible swaps. Any questions, feel free to ask. James.

Brand new in packet (sun faded tag), bought for a project but decided I no longer need it. SOLD !!! And finally, a super rare Official Tamiya R/C Collection '99. 12. Good day lads. I have used DMC shock oil in my clear blue Tamiya plastic dampers, combined with TRF O-rings #42214 and TRF rods #53575, and Team Associated Green Slime, but the oil just keeps leaking out under compression. What could be the cause? The rods are the same size as the standart ones, the O-rings aren't tight around them, but the stock red ones require an awful lot of force to get any compression. Are the o-rings not fit for the oil? There are TRF rings made speficalyy for natural oils, I don't know whether this oil is natural or synthetic, though. Should I go for complete TRF dampers? Thanks for your help.
  13. Looking for a TRF418 onwards and a FF03. Rolling chassis or complete setups, just let me know what you have and how much you want. Cash waiting and ideally from within the EU but would consider from further afield. They are for a friend, I'm not hording honest Thanks Doug

  16. Reluctantly I am putting up for sale my gorgeous Porsche 911 GT1, which has been hopped up beyond TRF spec with almost every single TA03 Hop Up imaginable including some nice rare official Tamiya hex head hardware too. It has never been ran in its current state with the only used parts being the Eurethane front bumper, some hop ups (that have been cleaned up) and some plastic parts. Most of the plastics are the rare black type with only a few small parts using the original grey ones. The body is new built and never ran, it was cut, painted and decalled by myself to a pretty good standard (as can be seen by the pictures). What you see is what you get and I will list below the extensive hop ups that have been used, some of which are ultra rare to find these days. So what you get ........ is a TA03R-S chassis that has had the following fitted, 53387 - TA03R-S FRP Chassis Conversion (part J5 has been replaced with some alloys spacers) 53386 - TA03R-S Carbon Chassis Plates. 53267 - TA03 Ball Diff (fitted to the rear) 53200 - 4WD Front One Way Diff (fitted to the front) 53326 - TA03 Alluminium Steering Set 53274 - TA03 Aluminium Counter Shaft 53200 - TA03 Universal Swing Shafts (Blue) 49091 - TA03 Lightweight Drive Shafts Purple (fitted to the rear) 53279 - TA03 Torque Splitter Unit 53261 - TA03F Pro Carbon Battery Plate Set 53276 - TA03 Fluorescent Colour Stabilizer Set 53163 - On Road Spring Set 53333 - Touring Car Tuned Spring Set (short type) 53337 - TA03 Reinforced Damper Stay (low mount type) x2 49093 - Aluminium Servo Stay (purple) 53275 - TA03 Aluminium Motor Heat Sink 53288 - TA03 Aluminium Rear Uprights 53316 - TA03 Aluminium Hub Carriers 53293 - Reinforced Slicks Type A x2 53571 - TRF Flourine Coated Dampers (1 has a slight mark on the top cap) 53291 - TA03 15T Aluminium Pulley x2 TA03 Pro 0.4 Module Gear set I have used alot of 3 Racing Purple Hardware on the build too. New built Tamiya Porsche 911 GT1 bodyset, with wheels and inserts I am sure I have missed out a few items, also comes fitted with full bearings, Almost complete spare decal set for the 911 GT1, Full spare plastic parts for the 911 GT1, original kit box, scanned manual (sorry I don't have the original manual) and a few other spare parts that I have for the chassis. Also included are most of the Hop Up labels/packaging that I have kept over the years of collecting the parts to build this. Any questions at all, please feel free to ask. Also any other pictures wanted, again please ask. I would like to see it go to a good home and not someone who is going to sell it on preferably. UK buyer preferred, but may post overseas at cost (the box will be quite heavy) and double boxed packaging Looking for £160 (includes UK postage). Many thanks James

  18. At the last ETS in Germany, Marc Reinhard announced he would part ways with Tamiya. It will be interesting to see where he's going to go next. Maybe Xray, to battle it out with fellow German Ronald Völker? Or will one of the smaller teams like Infinity snatch him up? And more to the point for us, what does the departure of 'our' front man mean for the future of TRF? Tamiya quietly pulled out of off-road racing a few years ago when they decided to stop updating their offers, and I have a feeling that this could very well mean the end of Tamiya Europe's racing ambitions. In Japan I'm sure Akio Sobue and Naoto Matsukara will continue to be a force to be reckoned with on track, but Tamiya Japan is very much a different company from Tamiya Europe and Tamiya USA. On his last race, Marc sported a classy black-and-white variant of his usual paint job. All I can say, as a fellow racer and fan of TC, is thank you Marc, and the best of luck to wherever you decide to go next. Source The RC Racer
  19. Selling a super clean Tamiya TRF419, raced only on carpet. Amazing car with amazing cornering speeds, best Tamiya TRF I have ever owned. I had just finished installing the Samix carbon chassis to give it a shot and then I came across a 419X. So I have never actually tested the car with the Samix chassis. It is meant to be softer and offer more flex. I am also including an original chassis NIP, along with manual, spare arms and spare c hubs as well as some NIP suspension blocks. Asking $old Obo shipped to lower 48 states.
  20. So over the last weekend racing I noticed my car developing more and more play all over, so I've decided to give it a good rebuild and cleaning. Of course, I'll take you guys along. What this car has done since the last time I spent some time with it on my desk: - about 100 batteries of practice - 4 qualifiers - 3 mains - setting a lap record for 17.5t touring on my home track - wore out 2 sets of tires - wore out a body shell The list of complains: - The rear diff leaked like a sieve. It stopped last weekend, probably because it is now empty - Play in the steering system - Wobble in the spur gear - stripped screw in the layshaft after it disassembled itself spontaneously last race - the locating peg on one of the rear body posts broke off, so every time I do something with the body shell I have to realign it - .... it's disgusting So yeah, a good cleaning was due. The willing victim, spread out on my desk, ready to go. Seems pretty clean from the outside, right? I'll leave the electronics in. The ESC is barely a few races old, and the receiver is perfectly placed where it is. I quickly took off the shocks, and removed all the easily disassembled sections like the front bumper and the upper deck. Race on carpet they said, your car will remain spotless they said.... The ball nuts are all rather damaged too. I'll get a new set to place these. If you're gonna do it, do it right! Also, the diff blades on the universal ends are worn out, I've got a set around somewhere, so that's one thing less I need to buy. On the left one of the C-hubs I took off the car. On the right a new C-hub. Aluminum things don't break, they bend.... Right steering knuckle assembly. It seemed fine, but the bearings are gritty and the C-hub is bent as well. The motor mount. The escaping layshaft did quite a bit of damage to the surface, but it's still straight and therefor, it goes back in after a deep cleaning. Other layshaft upright. You can see where the pulley nicked it on the way out. The pulley in question. 20 minutes of wrenching later the shock towers, diffs, front and rear hubs and stabilizer rods are gone. The bare chassis, pre-cleaning. I love carbon fiber, and how it changes appearance depending on the angle you look at it. The previous owner of this car was a bit of a klutz. The top deck was originall shoved in there, tweaking the bottom plate. Apparently he spilt some super glue on the rear part as well. It's on a fairly invisible spot (below the rear lower arm, near the droop screw) so I'll leave it be. My TRF's a working girl, not a shelf queen. Stay tuned for more teardowning. We've still got the diffs to do, shocks to rebuild (my least favorite part), clean the whole thing, get the replacement parts, and then screw the whole thing back together. The shopping list thus far: - 51253 TA05 (I think) B-parts for the rear body posts - New C-hubs. Plastic Tamiya ones are out, though maybe the TA07 ones are stronger, so a good set of Yeah Racing hubs, or Square if I can find them somewhere - 53640 Ball Connector nuts - 19804777 CS 2.6mm x 8mm screws to secure the layshaft. One is bent, and the other one I stripped accidentally. - 53601 5mm adjusters. I'm replacing all of them, just to be sure.

  22. I have decided to sell my DB01R race buggy (rolling chassis only). It has done me very very well over the time I have had it and raced it, but just feel the need for a change (possibly going into 2WD offroad) . Comes fitted with... Carbon Fibre front and Rear Damper stays Blue Alloy Steering Set Blue Alloy Steering Bridge Blue Alloy Front Hubs Blue Alloy Rear Uprights Blue Alloy Motor Mount Big Bore Aeration Dampers all round Rear Oil Filled Gear Diff Front Ball Diff RW Racing Machined Spur Gear TA05 Carbon Battery Brace TRF501 Stabilizer Set Double Slipper Clutch Add to that all the usual DB01R spec, alloy suspension mounts universal drive shafts, full bearings etc etc. It also comes with loads of spare parts, Big Bore spring sets, spare ball diff (needs rebuilt), spare front one way diff and pulley, original damper stays and uprights etc etc. Comes with manual but not the original kit box. Also comes with a Durga body that is painted very brightly and rear wing, both have signs of damage (it was a race buggy afterall) and a few sets of used wheels and tyres. The chassis tub has a slight crack on the battery side, but this doesn't effect the performance at all. Also comes with weights added to the battery tray slot so that it can accept square lipo battery packs and have a balanced weight. Open to offers as I have no idea what its all worth TBH. Pictures on request via email. Many thanks James
  23. As I promised, here is a small overview of my cars so far. My first ever RC car I bought when I was 12. It was an M02 Alpine A110, and it was well used and abused throughout the years. I raced it in the Eurocup, where it soon found itself hopelessly outclassed against the (then-new) M03s. I parked it in the attic and forgot all about it. However, four years ago, my then-office decided to have a team-building exercise; build and race TT01s against the other departments. Because I was the only one with any clue how to assemble them, I was named chief mechanic and driver. After the big event I took the thing home, and promptly bought a second one. ... I guess you can kinda see how this goes from here... Four years later, and I have fully restored the M02, making it a light-duty runner with the only modern addition of a 2.4Ghz receiver and an ESC. The rest is pure '90s goodness, including an original body set. The TT01 received a Lancia Delta Integrale body set, and a rally interior soon after. The TT01 is still with me, I race it in the Dutch Tamiya Cup wearing a Toyota GT86 body set (the beautiful Lancia is just too fragile for the track).. For the local indoor carpet track I have two cars. I started out running the TT, but soon upgraded to a TRF419, currently in Stock 17.5t trim to comply with local regulations. It's an absolute beast, precise as a scalpel and quick like a fox. The other car I bought to compete with my wife. She runs a Tamiya F1 mutt (F104 with an X1 rear pod and setup, and a TRF102 frontend on foam, and I found the 419 to be outgunned. So I went and got a TRF102. The TRF F1 is still fairly new to me, and I'm still working on setting it up. I run it on rubber instead of foam, which puts me at a huge handling disadvantage compared to her foam-shod car. The 102 has the upper hand in power though, she runs a silver can, and I run a 21.5t brushless in blinky. We also have two DT03 buggies, just to mess around with on the beach, and I'm currently painting up a CC01 Mitsubishi Pajero MTW.
