  1. I saw this TT-02 Belt Drive kit on AliEpress. It is inexpensive, interesting or as Spock would call it "fascinating"! Soooooo, i ordered one! I have built five tt-02 cars using tips I have found on this forum which from my first build made them all better than they would have been from just using the manual. I have come up with a few things myself which I would like to share when time allows (like the motor air scoop accepts a 30mm fan and does very well to cool your motor when a fan is used ! Why Tamiya doesn't mention this is beyond me) ...more to come; but back to this belt thangy! It looks to be of fairly good quality and since I am currently building a rally tt-02 and my first TT-02B i will try it in one or the other and report back.
  2. A couple of weeks ago I bought my first RC car. It was one that I used to drool over as a lad in the toy section of my mum's catalogue but we could never afford one. That was the venerable Hornet. I had a random recommendation for a video of it on my YouTube homepage and it bought it all back to me. So I bought one and put it together in a couple of days over a weekend. I absolutely loved the build and it was incredibly satisfying getting to the end of it and having a working model to bash around the garden. I enjoyed it so much that I had ordered ordered the other classic that I have always wanted, the Lunchbox, before I had even finished the Hornet. This one got built in the just a day and boy does it not disappoint in the fun stakes - what an absolute hooligan of a car! I enjoyed those two so much that I fancied doing something a bit more sophisticated and more modern, so I got myself one last model to build and that was the TT-02BR. That one took me around two and a half days to build and another day to paint and I now have something to fettle with and upgrade as time goes on. Thank you to the people who have answered my newbie questions in the latest build. I have so much to learn and it is all a bit baffling at times. I'm sure that I will be speaking this foreign language fluently in no time. Anyway, I just wanted to share my excitement for this new hobby and I guess I need to add a picture of my new babies, so here they are in the garden this evening. The Hornet and Lunchbox are both stock and the TT-02BR has the Tamiya aluminium motor mount and a Super Stock BZ motor in it. I'm waiting on the Tamiya aluminium motor heat sink to arrive too. Running on 7.2 NiMH because I'm too scared of LiPo batteries right now 🤣
  3. Hi everyone, I’m new to this site and to the RC hobby. I’ve come to it a bit later in life (early fifties) after stumbling across a YouTube video of a Tamiya Hornet recently, which bought back memories of how I lusted after the Hornet in the back of my mum’s catalogue for hours on end as a lad. Well I’m a big boy now and can afford my own, so I grabbed a kit and waded in…..and absolutely loved it! I liked it so much that as soon as I finished building it I bought the Lunchbox Black Edition as well (another childhood dream fulfilled). With those two builds under my belt I want to branch out into something a bit more sophisticated and modern and I have decided on the TT-02BR kit. Like I say - I'm new to all of this so I was hoping that the good folk on this forum would be able to guide me in ensuring that I have the right parts to complete it. The first two kits were easy enough as they came in a bundle with everything I needed . I needed to do a bit of MacGyvering here and there to get things to fit and I’m comfortable with that kind of thing. So here is what I have popped in my basket at my shop of choice: Tamiya TT-02BR chassis Tamiya Super Stock 23T BZ Aluminium motor mount Etronix 6.2kg/0.12 Standard Servo Enrich Power 3000mah 7.2v Sport Stick Pack Hobby wing Quicrun 1060 ESC Absima CR4S-V2 receiver and transmitter set I’m hoping that all of that is suitable? Can anyone recommend any good tyres for off road use? I was looking at some Fastfax Stub wheel and tyres, but mainly because that’s what the supplier has in stock. Any tips and tricks for the build? Any help/advice for a newbie is very much welcomed. EDITED 11th Aug - I BOUGHT IT!
  4. TT02B, or not TT02B, that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The Hop-Up’s and pay an outrageous fortune, Or to modify against a sea of doubters And by opposing end them
