  1. Firstly I have a wild one Re Re which I bought from @Grumpy pants Not an original original but whatever I feel I should preserve the wheels and tyres. Front end is not a problem. Question is there an adapter available to convert the rear end to Hex wheels. If so could somebody point me in the right direction. Secondly I have a WT01 Amorok with 13.5 brushless power but the tyres just dont make the grade. Is there a tyre to give me more grip? Could get away with just the rears but any advice would be appreciated.
  2. Hi, I am currently looking for a custom alloy / carbon chassis for the WR01/WT01 Chassis. I have had one before which I regrettably SOLD with my Wild Dagger Project (I know silly thing to do) Does anyone have one for sale? Or know someone who makes them? Or possibly have a Template to build one myself they could share? (Picture of my old WR01 Project) Many Thanks S
  3. Hi All, Took my lads mighty bull for a spin today and a screw had come loose and got lost. Does anyone happen to have any screw bags for this chassis? I don't have any spare screw for it Please let me know if you can help. Mark
  4. Hi all, I am in need of some front frame D parts for the WT01/WR01 chassis. Can be found on blackfoot 3. The part number is 9005735. please let me know if you can help. Many thanks Mark
  5. Something I've have in mind for an absolute age but only just got around to starting - my take on a pro-mod WT-01 monster truck. The story begins way back in my early return to RC, the best part of 15 years ago, when I added a second-hand Blackfoot Extreme to my small but growing collection. It came completely stock but was missing the original Tamiya hardbody and was wearing a pre-painted Cross Tiger shell instead. I ran it as it was for a while, but I'd always planned on some upgrades. I was new to the hop-up world and what followed was a mish-mash of unmatched parts that turned the original BFX into something overweight, overdamped and overpowered. Unable to get the 14.4v 550s to play nicely with the Ho Bao monster wheels and axle wideners, I broke it up for parts and sold most of it on, promising myself that one day I would make something better. For a long time other projects took priority, but in November I went to my long-ignored monster truck parts bin and pulled out all the bits I thought I'd need to build another WT-01. Unfortunately I had only a fraction of what I needed, and what I had was badly worn, cracked in places and broken in others, so I figured the cheapest option was to start from scratch with a whole new kit. I found an NIB Mud Blaster II on ebay for under book price, and ordered a JConcepts F250 racerback body, on the basis that this was designed for the Clod wheelbase (10.5") and might look a little neater than the short Brat body over the WT-01's long stride. I already had a spare transmission with full bearings and a cracked case, an NIP case in which to put it all, and some lightly used dogbones and drive parts, plus enough new bearings to refit the new rear transmission and all the corners. As a matter of fact even the F250 is too long for the WT-01. I briefly considered making some staggered suspension arms on the 3D printer to shorten the wheelbase, but a recent post from top builder @IBIFTKH persuaded me to take the plunge and make some custom chassis plates. So - what you see here - and this really is just a teaser of what's to come - is my own take on the WT-01 shorty. The chassis plates are made of 0.5mm plasticard as a prototype / proof of concept / overall size check. If asked I will say that I chose 0.5mm because it's easy to shape and can be cut with scissors as well as craft knife for a very quick build, but the truth is that I had lots of it lying around but I didn't have anything meatier. I took an old cracked chassis plate and cut off all the protruding parts on the back so I could draw around it and mark all the holes. I kept the body post mounts in the stock location because I'd already cut the holes in the body. Then I measured that I'd need to shorten the chassis by 12mm at each end. The rear was easy - I marked the stock transmission holes, then moved them all forwards by 12mm. The front end was a different matter. I hadn't noticed until @Saito2 mentioned in the Cars You Once Enjoyed thread that the front of a WT-01 has no kick-up. The WR-01 has around 8 degrees in the dummy front suspension mount, but Tamiya didn't bother to make an alternative transmission housing or an asymmetrical chassis plate, so the 4wd version has that compromised front suspension geometry. So, rather than just bringing the front holes back by 12mm, I measured back by 12mm at the second-forwardmost of the transmission mounts, then angled the entire transmission back by 8 degrees. As you'll see from the photos this doesn't actually cost and ground clearance - it makes the centre of the truck lower but no lower than the centre of the diff housing. It would be an issue if I was building a crawler, but this truck will spend the majority of its runtime rooster tailing on the gravel lanes on the Imber Range or tearing up the astro at Robin Hood Raceway, so that extra clearance isn't needed. So - here's some rough teaser shots of the new chassis plates and the body in place.
  6. I did some 8 deg c hubs for my Comical Hornet. They will fit any RWD vehicle that uses TL01 derivative suspension - Any of the WT02 derivatives, WT01, M04, there may be others. It improves front grip. It does exactly the same job as Tamiya 54661 but is a bit cheaper. If you have a GF01 or 4WD WT variant you need the Tamiya part. These don't have a hole for the front driveshaft to maintain strength in the 3d printed material. They are on my Shapeways store now. The other bonus for Comical chassis owners is these come in a loaf of colours, so you can get a green one for your Grasshopper, or pink for your Frog. http://shpws.me/RiXw
  7. Hi All, I'm after 2 E9 parts for my son's truck. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks in advance Mark
  8. Hi All, I am after some unused driver parts for a Blackfoot 3. They come on the 'H' sprue with part number 19000249. I only need parts 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7 from the sprue. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks Mark
  9. This started life as a Blackfoot 3 kit, with the intention of making it 4WD and possibly 4WS. I built it as instructed and bought the extra gearbox/ shafts/ arms/ etc to make it 4WD I then bought a 2nd hand wild dagger? roller for the steering and extra gearboxes. anyway, not so much a build thread but thought some of you might be interested.......................... The gearbox and suspension assembly is held to chassis with 4 screws( well 3 so far in this case, lol ) each side, very easy to work on. I could drill straight through and bolt it but haven't yet. It's a bit rough, first attempt at this, still has sharpie marks where I was going to remove more metal, messed up the steering servo, cut the hole too big and had to add the extra plate, not finished it off yet. I have created a weak spot where I cut past the angle to clear the standard shock tower, maybe next time, just cut it off and work round it? I have some very rough sketches of a chassis idea that I had. I did say rough lol,.. I think another gearbox could be added very easily. Tools used. Cordless drill Round file half round file 3mm drill bit. 2.4m of aluminium angle. (enough of this left to do another, possibly an 8x8) Took it out for a spin today and it drives quite well. I'd say it's better than it was 4wd. Will try and get video soon.
  10. Hi folks, I'm trying to locate a decent set of shock/damper mounts/trees/stays and suitable 90-100mm shocks for the WT01 chassis in the UK. I've been searching around, but to be honest I really don't know what's going to fit properly. I've already made the mistake of ordering some shocks which are the default length, but the fittings are completely different, so they'll have to go in a drawer never to be seen again! I've read any mounts for the WR01 will fit, and after some more research it looks as if the WR01 chassis is virtually identical, but I could be looking at completely the wrong thing! If anyone knows where I can get the bits needed could you please pop a link in here? Many thanks.
  11. Hi All, Was just wondering if anyone would know best tires setup for brushless WT01, as the original spike tires does not have any grip at all, the only best grip I can get out of this tires is on grass. Have anyone try the tires for HSP or redcat from ebay? are the any good? Thanks
  12. Hello all, returning to the RC scene after a 20+ year break. I just recently started acquiring new/NOS parts to rebuild my original RC fleet (Blackfoot, Clod, and Grasshopper) for my 7 year-old daughter and I to have some fun with, but a change in my employment status means I'm likely to spend the rest of this year away from home. The Blackfoot is currently the closest to being rebuilt, and the easiest to reassemble, but I don't think it's the best choice for my wife & daughter to keep running for the better part of a year with little-to-no maintenance. I had intended to get her a truck of her own later this spring after doing a bunch of research on my own, but now that my timeline is potentially much shorter, I'm just gonna ask for advice. My requirements: Low maintenance - as low as possible (my wife will be the "mechanic", and she's not the mechanic type... even though she's married to one) Quick build and setup - I'm not sure yet how much longer I'll be home, but it's not likely to be more than a month Strong enough to stand up to a 7 year-old running it into things repeatedly, until she gets the hang of driving it Not afraid to get wet (snow, mud, puddles, garden hose for cleanup) Based on some Google-ing tonight, I'm currently thinking about a WT01, either the Amarok or the Bush Devil. I like the looks of the Amarok better, but I think the narrow track width might be detrimental to a new driver. Mods will be limited to bearings, oil shocks with the appropriate mounts, and whatever needs to be done to waterproof the gear. Radio will be a Flysky FS-GT2 (B or E), batteries will be NiMH. I'm looking at the Savox 0231 servo, but I'm not crazy about some of the comments I've seen regarding its durability and their customer service. My questions: Is the stock Tamiya ESC waterpoof? I've got a Quicrun on the way that was to be for my BF, if the Tamiya isn't waterproof... Is the stock motor too fast for a 7 year-old driver; i.e. should I be thinking about a higher-turn motor? Will the stock motor put up with water intrusion, either through driving or garden hose cleanups? Am I thinking too much about this??? I don't mind paying for quality and durability, but at the same time I don't have an unlimited budget. I just want my daughter to be able to bash this thing around and have fun with it, and my wife to be able to merely hose it off, charge the batteries, and put it away for the next time. Your thoughts, opinions, and recommendations are welcome!
  13. This was my first kit in getting back into R/C. I bought a WT-01N Amarok Custom Lift, because I happen to love VW related vehicles. I didn't really know much about any chassis related things when I bought the kit only to find out that this was the "narrow" version of the WT-01 chassis which wouldn't suit what I had in mind for the truck. I went ahead and bought the corresponding "wider stance" related items I needed from Blackfoot 3 parts. Here are the list of things in the truck. 1. Hobbywing XERun Stock Spec v3.1 ESC 2. SkyRC Ares Pro 10.5T brushless motor 3. Blackfoot 3 control arms, drive shaft, etc. 4. Aluminum shock towers 5. Aluminum dampers 6. Tamiya 20T pinion The truck is now super fun to drive while being stable as well at speed.
  14. Misses is out, so Tooltime. Always dissatisfied how wobbly the servo is mounted in the WT01/WR01/WR02 chassis. The new DT03 and MF01x chassis however have these nice sturdy mounts. So down to the basement and hack away at the chassis some platicard and a bit of POM. To get this to fit You have to cut away one bit and for more stability add a spacer Which would come out a bit like this This is the first prototype, should be possible to have it printed at shapeway or maybe milled from alloy. Screws for the servo With some spacers makes the height variable Fitted into the chassis Leftside Rightside If I get to it I will make a sketch with some measurements.
  15. Hi all. Well after a recent thread I started about which is the best basher in WT-01 (mudblaster 2, blackfoot 3 etc) vs the staduim blitzer, blitzer beetle etc to decide which to buy it turned out there wasn't really a winner. I eventually went for a mudblaster 2. They both seemed to handle the rough stuff and looked loads of fun. I decided on the mudblaster 2 because it was going for a really good price, roughly £90 delivered from Germany to the UK. Also I had a plan with the wt-01 plus the fact that if I ever wanted to do I could do a 4 wheel drive/steer conversion which is really easy with this model. It's a really versatile kit. So I thought I'd do a little build thread of what I had done during the build. I took photos at every stage but don't worry I'll just skip to the big parts. Here's everything laid out. It's not a dining table anymore, its a tamiya workbench! Front frame Front axles with replacement rubber sealed bearings from rcbearings Front assembly almost complete Assembling dampers Front assembly complete Adding rubber sealed bearings to the gearbox Rear gearbox assembly complete Metal geared servo with tie-rods attached (thanks to mr crispy for the link to buy the servo) Chassis halves attached with the tamiya teu-104bk esc installed, towardpro MG946R metal geared servo and the receiver Fully assembled gearbox added to chassis along with completed front assembly The wheels are on! Woo hoo. So instead of the mudblaster 2 body shell I decided I wanted to put the blitzer beetle/sand scorcher/monster beetle shell on instead. Here it is after arrriving from kamtec after a trimming. I used some curved nail scissors and was really pleased with the result. Then I ordered a couple of cans of tamiya PS-34 bright red polycarbonate paint and built myself a spray booth. The shell ended up like this... Then a really satisfying part. Peeling off the protective layer revealing the shiney red shell. Next the monster beetle decals went on Decals applied to shell And finally I modified the mounts to fit the beetle shell. With the front I just used one of the mounts as apposed to the 2 for the mudblaster shell and put it in the middle of the support and sandwiched it with some of the rubber tubing that was used on the dampers. Someone on here has done a very similar mount for this body so I can't take credit for this method. Rear modified mounts All done..... So that's it for this build so far. I did the monster beetle conversion because I really loved the original monster beetle but tamiya never did a re-re. I think if they did it probably would have been based on the wt-01 chassis going from what they did with the blackfoot and mudblaster so I tried to make what they haven't. I was going to buy an original but I bought an original blackfoot which is rarely run and I don't want to ruin 20+ year old originals. This is pure basher! From here little touches like tinting the windows will be done as it won't have a driver and I'd like to fit an original monster beetle rear bumper or fashion a plate at the back like the original has with the huge monster beetle decals on it. This will help fill the big space at the rear too. After this I'll look at improving the performance, esc, motor, batteries and changing to 2.4ghz radio gear. I've also got some plans for the suspension too. Eventually it will be lipo powered and brushless but I'm going to start at the bottom with a standard 540 motor and friction shocks and enjoy the improvements as they come along. Hope you liked the build. I'll put up a vid soon of its first run. It'll probably be in the snow.
