  1. So, last week I bought a NIB Zahhak from a fellow member of the forum and now Im wondering if this car is a runner or it should remain a shelfqueen. Im going to build it as I dont keep unbuilt kits, but I have no real idea about what to do with it. I have been looking around and have not been able to find a lot of spares, and that makes me think that Im not going to be running the car a lot. I despise ball diffs (out of lack of experience mainly) but ive seen that a fellow member has made a 3D gearbox to use oil diffs (which I like), but Im not sure I want to start doing mods. What are your ideas? any advice on spares or compatible parts that could make it a runner? Thanks for the help!!
  2. Second prototype of my TA06 gear diff transmission case the rear motor TRF201X and DN01. It uses all the kit parts but replaces the ball diff with the TA06 gear diff. I got some spacings wrong on the left hand case due to using the wrong reference plane, but i have another version coming from Shapeways which will hopefully sort it. Even now it is tight, but fits with no modifications which is what i hoped. I'll put it on my CTE RC Shapeways store once i have completely sorted it. No more melty ball diffs!
  3. I may have the £££ to buy a new kit in the near future. Having built various kits over the years I've decided on a DN-01 or XV-01 as possibilities. Having read a few build threads it seems they are more of a challenging kit to build and "nice" out of the box compared to my current TT-02B & DT-02. I know they are totally different formats but I'm wondering if anyone has both, or either and has any thoughts (good or bad) on them. When I do use my cars it's usually on rough dirt/gravel so I'm leaning towards the DN-01.
  4. In another in my occasional but continuing series of Buggies That Would Look Awesome With A Grasshopper2 Shell, I give you the TRF Grasshopper2(01)! I had one of those "I wonder" moments this morning and dropped the trimmed down spare Mad Bull shell I had made up as a Grasshopper2 to fit my DT03 onto my DN01 chassis. As it's a spare, a little more trimming later and it's sitting quite nicely! It even picks up the original Mad Bull front mount on the DN01/TRF201 front spigot! It's not currently attached at the rear, but some Velcro on the shock tower would probably do it. It's very gappy so I think a black painted Desert Gator shell underneath as a chassis cover would sort it. The aerial even fit through the DT03 body post hole I drilled!
  5. Hello all, I am currently investigating a handful of new cars for off-road buggy racing that are TRF or could be upgraded to TRF. So far I am looking at the Sand Viper, Dark Impact or Zahhak. Now the sand viper and dark impact are not the TRF versions N.I.B, I would be purchasing the hope-ups seperately. The Zahhak appears to be still available in the N.I.B version as the TRF 201. Price varies from my Ebay research as follows. Sand Viper with seperately purchased TRF upgrades = $520.00. Dark Impact with seperately purchased TRF upgrades = $600.00 and the Zahhak bought as the TRF201 (comes with all upgrades) = $470.00. My pricing includes the radio (futaba), motor (superstock BZ) and ESC (Tamiya 104), bearings and a 15T steel pinion. Now I am still in love with my vintage cars and have upgraded them to the max (hornet and super hornet), however I am looking for a challenge that will be fun to build (moving into the next level of complexity), maintain and provide much more speed and if anything goes wrong I can still get parts. I do not want to upgrade my classic cars as they can be unforging if something breaks (parts hard to find and break easy if to much power). I have been leaning towards the Viper, however if the TRF201 is a better performer than I will head in that direction. Dark Impact was a consideration as it would be my first 4wd. Please let me know if the electrics specs are correct for interdimentional travel (greater speed). I don't really want to go brushless as the price can be let down. Let the debate begin. I love the comments and insight from members. Passion and honesty is a bonus from tamiya lovers. Regards Jeffro
