  1. Which budget shocks or dampers would you recommend for a rear wheel drive buggy such as a Tamiya DT-03, Kyosho Dirt Master, etc? I used to love 3Racing stuff including their shocks, but it has been years since I used any of it. There are also a bunch of new brands that have popped up as well in the last few years. Yeah Racing seems to get decent feedback. I'm open to all feedback on inexpensive shocks. Definitely don't want anything that leaks. Thank you!
  2. Working on getting some projects that have been laying around unfinished drivable for the summer. This one's interesting....been a while since I messed with a CC01. I sold off quite a few, I'm down to three and a pile of parts. I have 2 built and ready to go -one's an on-road runner, and the other is my Tamiya/HPI/Vaterra hybrid Mu. This one has been sitting for ages - time to get it done! .Hopefully setting up for a CC01 day out on the trail. This is an old chassis, about 15 years I guess? The Tamiya ABS tends to crack after a while, and this one is no exception. Even the gear cover is cracking around the screw holes, so I'm not sure how durable it's going to be. Thankfully, I have enough spares stocked up for a full re-build if needed. Some old 3Racing CR01 portals up front and an SSD AR44 case in the rear. The portals are a 1.5 reduction, so I need an overdrive gear in the rear axle to make it work (on order) - by my math, it'll end up with about 14% underdrive in the rear. As it sits, it's about 42% - way too much. Also, I need a body (also on order!) but I've got it mostly mocked up and ready to go. Trimmed off a lot of the chassis, and some cut up Wraith chassis parts for rear shock towers. Electronics are in and it's driveable, just needs some finishing work before I can give it a go. I've got a Holmes 20t 5 slot in there with the torque ring removed, I think it'll be geared just a bit tall, We'll see once I get out there. Good clearance with the portals! I'll need a front bumper of some kind, ignore the mess. It'll get cleaned up. Bottom shot - no more links hanging down...I've got a bearing carrier tucked in under the plate for a smoother bottom - it's a HiLift F350 steering bridge, works perfect! Thought it was worth a post. Will update as it evolves.
  3. Looking for a couple of 3Racing Aluminium Rear Gear Box Stiffener For Tamiya DF-03 (p/n. DF03-22/LB) Prefer UK seller, but will buy from overseas if needed. Thanks.
  4. This is my first CR01, I put it on backorder the day it was announced and has seen plenty of configurations and miles. Wasn't long until I was starting to tinker with it for more performance, and it has had more chassis and suspension setups than I can remember. It looks far different today as it has evolved, and it's still one of my favorite rigs. I've just given it an overhaul of sorts. Right now, it's sporting an older T-maxx body which fits the extended wheelbase. This is the second bug body, the first was painted as an homage to the Blitzer Beetle but after many trail runs and rollovers, it was due for a new one and I went a different direction with this one. Wheels are a beautiful set of Gearhead beadlocks, and it's running some older Losi tires with dual stage foams. I tray and stay around 4.5" tires which limits selection a bit These tires may not have super scale looks, but they have great bite out on the rocks. Stock bumper is mounted out back and has saved my rear end more than a few times when the truck has tried to flip backwards. I cut a new chassis from 6061 that's about 2/3 the height of the stock chassis (and 1/4 the weight). Uses the stock chassis parts wherever possible. Gives a lower COG as well as more ground clearance. I've learned a lot since I built this one and an contemplating a new chassis with a few design changes though this one has served me very well. From the top. I've swapped out the stock trans for an SCX10 transmission. The stock trans is tough as nails and smooth as silk, but it's a bit large. The smaller SCX10 trans allowed me to tuck everything into the shorter chassis. I also swapped out the stock battery tray for a lighter aluminum plate/velcro setup. A modified Integy bumper sits up front. Shocks are a set of G-Mades in droop configuration. I've run these on many rigs and have not be a fan of the setup, but for whatever reason they flat out work on this rig. A fairly rare set of aluminum axle cases found their way on here. Aluminum does not slide as well as plastic for sure so it might be odd to find these on a performance truck. Having said that, there's not a lot of options for adding weight down low on these trucks other than the wheels. The axles cases are HEAVY and really do a good job of lowering the COG. Very happy with them. Lots of other goodies on the axles - KM, 3Racing, etc. and stuffed with Tamiya's lockers and HD parts. All in all, This is a darn good performing truck out on the trails and the rocks. And reliable...I've run brushless, 550's, 2 and 3S through this truck and it's never had a problem. The only item I've had to replace is the rear gears finally let go after a few years of running. My only wish is someone really needs to make some CVD's for these axles. My turning radius is just terrible. I may or may not do 4 wheel steering at some point, not sure.
  5. This seems like a nicely designed, purpose-built drift chassis. RCMart is listing them for $127 USD preorder right now, which seems like an amazing price considering its specs. It ticks all the right boxes with front weight bias, near zero Ackerman steering, locked diffs, and rear axle overdrive (countersteer). The suspension has been designed with a lot of adjustability and steering angle in mind. http://os.3racing.hk...kits_web_key=18 The rear diffuser seems like an unnecessary flourish; hopefully that isn't part of the structure and can be left off. I'm also curious what bodies will fit with the motor pushing the front bumper forward. This pretty much obsoletes any TT01 front motor/dual motor conversion project I was thinking about, and seriously undercuts the TA05VDF and TB03VDS. I've had good success ordering 3Racing parts from RCMart, so this might very well be my next drift chassis. -Paul
