  1. Looking to buy some Tamiya stuffs. The buyer is located in Taiwan. If you have it/them and are willing to part with, PM me with the picture(s) and the price.Thanks in advance. wanted list: (1)HOTSHOT Manual. Must be original and is in good condition. (2)RS-540SD Endurance. USED condition only. (3)RS-540SD Sprint. USED condition only. (4)PORSCHE 956 NEWMAN sticker. (doesn't have to be completed as I have some lefts)
  2. I've decided to part company with my 2 vintage King Tiger tanks, so here they are up for grabs. Both are 56004 kits. 3 Tone Tiger. Details on this tiger are: Had the lower hull replaced with one from a newer full option tiger, and also has the rear battery tray from the full option kit. It has the upper hull from a full option tiger, so has the turret support rollers on the top and underside of the hull, and the stand offs for fitting the full option tiger turret rotator. Has the original strobe flash unit installed and is fully operational. There is a servo installed to activate the mechanism. The gearbox has had the original clutch mechanism removed, and 2 540s installed, one to drive each track directly. I used TT-01 spur gears to carry out the modification so spares are readily available, and the support block I machined for it is never going to break. There are twin Mtronics ECO 27 speed controllers (Good for up to 9.6V) installed to control the motors, along with an aircraft V tail mixer circuit. This enables the tank to be driven as you would a buggy, as well as being able to carry out pivot turns. The turret rotator control has been replaced with a vintage 3 step speedo with the resistor removed. The turret rotation mechanism allows the turret to be rotated continuously in either direction through multiple turns as there are no wires going from the hull to the turret, unlike the full option models. This enables it to rotate in either direction at a single speed, but if the resistor was re-instated it would be possible to rotate the turret at 3 different speeds. (Or the MSC could be replaced with a rock crawler ESC to give full proportional control over the rotation speed) It has an improved track tensioner mechanism fitted. (I can probably find the original mechanism if required) I can demonstrate the tank working, but would be keeping the transmitter and receiver used for the demo. Looking for £250 or equivalent in trade. Good points. The twin 540 motors give 100% increase in available power over the standard model, and eliminate the problem of clutch slippage. They also give the potential to fit 80T crawler motors for more torque, or even 540 high turn brushless systems. bad points. At the moment the clutch in the turret slips when trying to rotate the turret. Take off the upper hull and it works fine. I'm going to try and investigate to see if I can figure out what the problem is. The rear mud flaps have been knocked off, but I have them in the box and they will be included. Pictures gearbox Upper hull and turret 2 Tone Tiger This tiger also has my own twin 540 motor gearbox conversion. The front torsion springs under the gearbox have been replaced with heavy duty items to cope with the extra weight. The tank is fitted with twin MTronics ECO27 ESCs, capable of running on voltages up to 9.6V (8 cells). Unfortunately testing it this weekend one of the ESCs is playing up, got to check if it just needs a retune or if it's toast. I might have another to replace it with if needed, or if someone is interested in this tank and the other one has not gone I can pull an ESC from that one. There is also a V tail mixer fitted between the ESCs so that the it drives like a buggy (1 stick for throttle, another for steering). It is also possible to do pivot turns with it. The tank has the original turret rotator fitted along with the servo controlled switch for rotating left and right. There is a servo controlled camera mount fitted in the commands cupola which is a direct fit for a GoPro camera case, which can be rotated left and right. (This means you can rotate the camera one way and the turret the other). The plastic gun barrel ahs been replaced with a full option aluminium item, and it also has an aluminium muzzle brake fitted. The rear mud flaps have been knocked off, but I have them in the box and they will be included. I have also made some additional metalwork to help with the layout of the internals to make it easy to operate the tank. This is a unique tank in that it has two 540 size motors powering it, one for each track with no clutches involved. PS The weathering is genuine Wiltshire mud, and will wash off with water if it is not to your taste. I have the machine for the turret and it will be included, even though it's not the photos (I'd removed it to all the GoPro to rotate in the commanders cupola) If you don't want the GoPro mount and the servo, I can remove them and knock £10 off. Looking for £230 or equivalent in trade. I can demonstrate the tank working, but would be keeping the transmitter and receiver used for the demo. As I've mentioned above, I would prefer cash for both tanks, but could be willing to trade for other R/C items. I'd prefer not to post these tanks if possible, due to the weight and fragility, and would be prepared to travel a reasonable distance to conduct a trade / sale. forgot to add that I've got a box for one of the tanks, and some of the left over clutch parts, also some Porsche turret hull covers.
  3. This was the motor I put in my old Hornet years ago. I remember it running pretty well-but now I cannot remember what company made this motor or how it stacks up against a Sport Tuned 540, for example. I think it might have been made by Associated, but I can't be sure. Can anyone I.D. this motor? Thanks for any info.
  4. I am seriously considering the purchase of a Tamiya NSU TT kit. Is there anything I should know about the chassis, like any problems? Looks like a neat little car-even though it's on a fwd chassis. I am only a "car park basher", so it's not going to get anything radical......Thanks for any info.
  5. As you can see, I just took delivery of a new NSU TT kit with an M05 chassis...... For now, I intend to use the standard 540. I also know that,eventually, I will upgrade the motor. What other brushed type motors will work besides a Sport Tuned 540? I'm looking for something that compares to that. I really like the Sport Tuned in my Grasshopper/Hornet, but I just want something different in this new build. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
  6. Thanks, all for inviting me into the Tamiya Club...... I have been in the process of moving the past few weeks and re-discovered my old Hornet packed away in a box of stuff. It originally had a yellow body (photo 1) and a stock 540. I eventually put all ball bearings in it and a "Black Magic" Associated (I think) motor. After cleaning it up and finding all the missing parts, unfortunately I discovered that the original Airtronics radio bit the dust. So I decided to restore it with a new twist...... I always liked the look of the Grasshopper 2 body-and so I stuck one on the old chassis (photo 2) -it fits perfectly after drilling 1 hole in front of the Grasshopper 2 front post hole. And it goes well with the Hornet nerf bars..... Now she has a Sport Tuned 540 ready to go with a new set of tires (photo 3). The Black Magic motor still runs-so it'll be a decent spare...... I'm just waiting for a new Tamiya ESC and some new rear shocks.......Thanks, everyone, for taking a look......

Hi Guys, i seem to have a problem, i have a 1986 Boomerang [completely original] that i bought back to life recently, it had been stored away at my Mums house for maybe 20+ years, all i did was buy a new battery (4400Nmh Overlander) and had about 2-3hrs of trouble free fun, then the motor blew, ok i thought just replace it and try again, i bought and fitted a Tamiya 540 Silver Can, it lasted a couple of hours tops and also blew, at this point i did think maybe i should try a different type of motor but it was suggested that maybe id picked up an object [maybe a small stone off my driveway] and it had caused the problem so rather than trying a different type of motor maybe just try another standard silver can [less than £10 so why not], well this time it didnt last an hour and i noticed smoke coming firstly from the MSC so i quickly disconnected the battery, i picked up the car and noticed that if i put the car in slow speed position no problems [forward or reverse] but when i put the car in to medium speed the smoke now started coming from the ceramic resistor [?] and when i went full speed the smoke started coming from the motor, i quickly found that this motor was now also blown. So obviously theres something wrong elsewhere, i pulled the MSC to pieces and could see nothing obvious [not even any evidence of burning but decided to upgrade to an ESC, oh and a third new standard tamiya silver can. Great the car seemed better than it ever has before, also upgraded to a steering wheel type transmitter too, mainly because the ESC didnt seem to be working right with the old stick controller [brake not working as supposed to], well ive run the car now 4 times [so not quite 2 hours} and the motors gone again ! No smoke this time, not even much of a burning smell but no power from the motor to turn the wheels. Ive tried 3 different batteries and ive turned the wheels by hand to seem if anything is tight, im not really sure how free they should feel but seem ok really. Where is my problem coming from ? It has to be from within the gearbox doesnt it ? theres been no reason to look in there since i built it back in 1986 and i dont really want to have to now but i guess if you guys are in agreement with me then ill have to, or maybe theres somebody out there whos experienced this and can give me a few pointers ?
  8. Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums and the Tamiya Club site. I was way into the Tamiya kits back in the 80's and recently discovered the re-release of the Midnight Pumpkin, the original kit that got me into RC. Hence the screen name. I bought the Black Edition kit a few weeks ago, had a great time building it, ran it around my driveway/back yard and it was fun. But I soon wanted a larger space to run and some fun terrain, so I brought the Pumpkin to a baseball field and park a few blocks away. I ran on some bumpy grass, a few hills and a dusty, dirty baseball field. I ran one battery pack all the way down. I then took about a 5 min break and put in another. I noticed there wasn't as much power and I couldn't pop wheelies. Before I could pop wheelies on demand. I attributed this to the battery having sit and maybe not having a good charge. It was a colder day than I expected so I thought this may have harmed the batteries. The next day I went in the back yard with a fresh pack and noticed that the problem persisted. I see a decrease in speed and definitely not enough power to wheelie from a stop. One thing I also noticed was that the car sounded different. Before I had a high-pitched motor sound at full throttle. Now, it sounds lower pitched. A few things I've checked: Can't hear any gear slippage. Took the motor off and checked the pinion and the gear it touches. I saw no breaks or evidence of an issue or slippage. Nothing obvious anyway. The motor was seated/screwed in tightly. I made sure to re-attach it tightly. No evidence of loose connection between the motor and the ESC. Re-programmed the ESC. Wasn't receiving any faults or beeps of any kind. Did this as precaution. Checked the battery packs with a volt meter. They've shown over 8 volts at full charge. I don't have an ESC to swap out nor do I have another motor. I do have a meter so I was wondering if I should check the wires from the ESC to the motor but I'm not sure what I should see there. I was planning on upgrading to a Sport-Tuned anyway so I ordered one.... So... What are your thoughts here? Anything else I should try? Should I just swap the motor out with the new one when it comes in? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Hi guys After some advice. I have a spare re-re Holiday Buggy that I want to put a 540 into for the Mrs, if I wanted the best running time with a 540 motor what sort of turns should I be looking at? If i was to buy something new and cheap (<£10) like a Saturn motor, would going over 30 turns increase the battery life a lot over a stock silver can? Top speed isn't an issue here provided it goes faster than I walk but I also know the HB shell isn't light. The battery is a new 3300mah, buggy has metal bearings. So 540 options: Stock Mabuchi Silver can, (27 turns?) Tamiya Torque Tuned (25 turns?) Or buy something cheap off the bay that is 30t + [Mods please feel free to boot over to the RE-RE forum if you feel this is too specific to the HB]
