  1. Since this seems to come up every once in a while, I thought I would write this all down in one spot for the sake of posterity. SRB (Special Racing Buggy) wheels can be placed into (3) groups: 1. Rough Rider/Buggy Champ. 2. Super Champ/Fighting Buggy/Sand Scorcher. 3. Ford Ranger XLT/Brat. The RR/BC wheels are 1.7”, 5 spoke, and silver. The Fast Attack Vehicle uses the same but molded in brown. All of these sets use the square block style road/sand tires. The SC/FB/SS wheels are 1.5”, 5 spoke, and white. These are also used on the Grasshopper, Hornet, and Frog. All of these sets use the same ribbed sand tire on the front. On the rear, the SS and GH use sand paddles, and the SC/FB, Frog, and Hornet use the spiked off road tires. The XLT/Brat wheels are 1.7”, 8 spoke (thanks @mtbkym01), and white. The front wheel on these sets are the same width as the rear so all four wheels use the same square block tire as the rear of the RR/BC. There are some variations to these such as the Jun Watanabe Hornet (black wheels) and the Brat blue edition (black wheels). If anyone else would like to info or corrections, please do so! Also, this might be a good place to list 3rd party manufacturers that made wheels or tires for these cars or in this size range.
  2. I am playing around with wheel/tyre combinations on my wild one. I have hex adapters for the rear but what I really want is a longer version of 50395 for the front any thoughts??
  3. Hopefully someone can help me :-D This is my first post and am really struggling with a vintage FAV. have totally taken it apart and rebuilt it. When I put power through the motor the gearbox runs ok - is noisy but is ok. the short shafts turn fine. When I connect the long shafts it seems to lose any torque so much so that the wheels don't turn once on the ground. Any ideas what I am doing wrong. Have had a look at all the elements and they seem fine (not worn out etc.) Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give...
  4. Whilst in the shower this morning I had a knock at the door (typical isn't it!). There was a very cheerful looking delivery man stood in the pouring rain waiting patiently with a parcel for me Always love when things arrive from Tamico! Well packaged as usual! How good is this box art For a change I'm actually going to build this one rather than squirrel it away. I'll probably even use it as a basher too I've got to finish my FF01 speed run build before I can start on this but I'll put it on the list! I'd be interested to know of any worthwhile hop ups I can buy to use when I build this.
  5. This is my first build on here. I've built quite a few Tamiya kits in the past, and as a kid, but this one i'm taking my time with. Any thoughts welcomed. First job is to paint this chap. This is the first time I've ever had the patience to paint a driver. Not perfect, but i'm pleased with how he looks. I wasn't using the rear box, so i made a lid/fuel cell to hide the wiring for the lights. Plenty of wires to hide! And, here's where i'm upto. More to come when i get five minutes.
  6. Well, with three little kids these days, too much work and life going on, I am thinking of selling my ENTIRE collection, down to the last screw and axle. Problem is, I have a rough idea of what I've paid for things over the years, but not an idea of what I could realistically sell everything for. Here's what I have: - A completely restored Fox with a lot of spares (including a good set of wheels)and black can motor, box, and all radio gear - A completely restored Blackfoot with new decals (yet to put on), black can motor, fully ball raced - A completely restored Boomerang new decals (yet to be put on), black can motor, fully ball raced, lots of spares, full radio gear - Brand new in the box FAV (opened and looked at, but as it was) - WRC Focus TT-01 with I think every option possible, full radio gear, box - Brand new, in the box and never opened Schnitzer BMW M3 - An all original, unrestored Wild One in very good shape, an easy restoration - A very modified Grasshopper that is nothing but a body and chassis right now. Oil filled dampers, black can motor, Baja Bug-style body, lots of spares There are also batteries, chargers, extra radios, servos, oil, grease, extra, extra parts... Everything is almost all vintage. It is generally a lot of stuff that has never been fully catalogued. :-) Pictures of almost everything I have can be found in my other posts. This is not a "for sale" post, this is a "feeler", an information gathering post if you will. Nothing is for sale yet, but when it is, everything will be offered here first before it goes to Flea Bay. I have collected all of these things over the past 25 years, moved with them through college and marriage and kids. This isn't an easy thing for me to do, but I think the time has come to take stock in this collection's worth.
  7. Hello Everyone, I am the club secretary at Mendip RC Raceway in Weston Super Mare and we are planning a Tamiya Club based weekend in 2014. Dates subject to discussion. We have both an on road and off road track with full timing facilities, sit down cafe, toilet block, covered pits with electric, on site camping and plenty of car parking. We plan to have on road classes for Touring cars, Minis, F1s and anything else on road. For off road racing classes for SRBs, Wild Willys, FAVs/Wild Ones, and any other Tamiya off road 4wd & 2wd cars. After much discussion we are proposing using Tamiya silver (standard or torque tuned) or Black (sport tuned) 540 brushed motors for the event for four reasons. Most tamiya collectors already have them, they are cheap, they will keep the speeds pretty level making the racing close & competitive and the lower speeds will help protect peoples prized cars from too much damaged. All classes depend on the number of entries. On the Saturday night we will have a BBQ and night racing. As Weston Super Mare is a popular holiday destination there is no lack of B&Bs and hotels if camping is not for you as well as pubs, clubs and bars to make a weekend of it for all the family. We will also do souvenir merchandise for the event. We will also encourage a swap meet. I have already spoke with a few people on here and there seems to be a lot of interest. We are currently sorting out our diary and I will be back to publish some dates by the new year. Let me know if you would prefer a Saturday/Sunday meet or a Sunday/Bank Holiday meet if possible. Below are links to our web site with videos of both tracks. http://www.worm-racing.co.uk/ http://www.mendiprcraceway.co.uk/ Let me know any feedback. Paul
  8. For Sale... Link to my showroom post... http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=119944&id=31334 Tamiya Fast Attack Vehicle featuring Wild Willy... Fast Attack Willy This has been built by me, and is based on the Tamiya re-release Fast Attack Vehicle, kit no.58496. The idea was to build a Wild Willy M38 themed FAV. So basically this is a FAV with lots of nods to the Wild Willy M38, including; all-round Padlatraks (fronts by SRB Bloke), winch, jerry can, NOS bottle, fuel cell, roll bar foam and spot-lights, fire extinguisher, spare wheel (including a spare wheel), and of course Willy himself at the wheel. The model has been run once on a sandy beach, for the purpose of taking the showroom photos. It has been cleaned but there is evidence of sand in the model. It includes an acoms steering servo and Axial 55T motor, both of which were new when they were put in the model and therefore have only been used the once. No other electrics are included. The model is ballraced, includes the Tamiya FAV hop-up aluminium damper set and has Axial bucket lights (the lights are for display and do not function) Included also is the kit instruction manual, bespoke Fast Attack Willy decal sheet, Kit decal sheet, various USED kit parts, ie. front and rear suspension, the lights (one of the light mounts is missing). Please note that some of the kit parts have been used/painted and therefore are not as new. There is visible evidence of use where the ESC wires have rubbed away some of the chassis paint. Additional photos can be sent on request. £550 ovno, including UK Postage & paypal fees Postage overseas - please contact me for a price.
  9. Thinking about the ugly Fox and Falcon shafts. Frog UJs seems good for the Falcon but no, they are not. The wheel axle is too long. But if I disassemble the Frog UJs and use a normal short axle can it works? The Frog and Falcon half shafts are the same length? And what about the Fox? Somebody knows the length of the Fox half shafts? Can something be similar? Max
  10. Completed my firs tamiya' real happy with the finish. Decided to go for a race version as I prefer the FAV's looks over the Wildone. Filed off a few off the "rugged army details" to give a more civillian look' Those tamiya paints are nice to work with if you take the time! I blanked off all those holes on the bottom with plasticard, relocating on/off switch to the deck opposite the driver, added foam blocks behind the steering servo to block out sand and dirt. Cut down the old battery box behind driver, and covered the old exit hole for the battery on the side with the nerf bars' and relocated motor wires through the old battery box. The shocks were replaced with the new FAV black damper set and I must say they are a quality item with no leakage' even after a bit off heavy abuse and they soak up the rough really well... landed a three foot jump off a set of steps on to concrete! RS Sports tuned motor gives it a bit more go' cant wait to hit the beach!
