  1. Hello, to separate the TRF201 transmission conversion and the restoration part of my Hilux Monster Racer I started this new thread regarding my TRF201 transmission conversion for the Nissan King Cab, Hilux Monster Racer and/or (Super) Astute / Madcap*. So the transmission section will not be mixed anymore with the restoration section. Here I can also offer a better and clear support for interested customers and can answer questions regarding the gearbox, parts list, manual or assembly. For pictures from the installed gearbox in a Hilux Monster Racer, please visit my build log/thread: Sgt.Speirs‘ Nissan King Cab - TRF201 Transmission Conversion & Restoration Parts list for this modification: 1x 3D printed gearbox parts from Shapeways (latest rev. 1.5): >> King Cab TRF201 Gear Box v1.5 - Complete << 1x 54471 TA06 Steel Gear Diff. 2. I have designed a bunch of 3D printed upgrade parts for the Tamiya King Cab. As they might be useful for other retro King Cab fans as well, I offer them here. Some will also fit the Hilux Monster Racer. These are not mass produced parts. I will print them on demand and prepare them individually. Send me a PM. Video will come soon! 1. Dirt cover set - €80.- Fits King Cab and Hilux Monster Racer. Will NOT work with classic mechanical speed controller (redesign possible if there is demand for this) 2. Cockpit stand set - €70.- untested for the Hilux Monster Racer. 3. Light Buckets set - €45.- King Cab only 4. Roll cage and roof rack set - €120.- King Cab only 5. Digital Dashboard set - including Arduino compatible microcontroller board, screen, custom made PCB and cable tree. These are unique hand made pieces with custom written software. Only a very limited number of units is possible. Some basic electronic understanding is helpful, as these are not foolproof and can be destroyed by not installing them correctly. Send me PM for pricing if interested. The dashboard unit is also available with a general housing for non-King Cab use. Case size: 78mm x 46mm x 20mm - with screw mounts 57mm x 34mm - see images below. (prices Feb. 2024) Check out the video: P.S.: Please understand that I am not Amazon! This is not my main business - just from a fan for other fans. Maybe an answer will take a while.
  3. So this was basically free with latest car lot I received and it was the worst of them. Both rear and right front axles are broken, missing gears and diff, stickers are peeling, tires have flat spots, missing front shocks, cracks, rusted, missing screws, bolts and more but I must say im excited to start working on it. I always wanted one of these as I am a Ivan Stewart fan but it wasn't top priority. My challenge to myself is to completely restore this one without buying anything for it just using everything I have in my inventory. I enjoy restoring builds that had been beaten up and forgotten. I appreciate it more when its finally done. Lets see how this turns out. 👍
  4. Hello, and welcome to Sgt.Speirs‘ King Cab - TRF201 Transmission Conversion build log for the Nissan King Cab / Hilux Monster Racer. =========================================================== To skip directly to the final pics, parts list and manual: >> CLICK HERE << =========================================================== In the early 90s, two of my friends had a Nissan King Cab (and they still have them). Although I think the Hilux Monster Racer looks better, the King Cab has a special place in my RC memory. NISSAN King Cab - Tamiya Guide Book 1995 TOYOTA Hi-Lux Monster Racer - Tamiya Guide Book 1995 Four weeks ago I found a local offer of a King Cab chassis for a good price (65€). No wheels/tires, no body, but blue sleeved dampers from the Dyna Storm and the carbon race steering set (53033). Only the body mounts referring, that it was previously a Nissan King Cab. Not related, but still nice...the Dyna Storm Overall, the parts are in great condition and even the bathtube chassis has no scratches as expected from heavy off-road trips. The rear dampers have some scratches from the spring/suspension, but they will work fine. The general weak point of the King Cab/Monster Racer, the ball differential, has a lot of wear and is hard to move. Unfortunately are spare parts hard to find. Because this car is planned as a runner, I decided to replace the gearbox by a current one (incl. a slipper clutch) with a probably better spare part availability. 1st proposal - The gearbox of the Super Astute (Re-Release): The King Cab shares its gearbox with the (Super) Astute. The gearbox of the re-re Super Astute from 2018 would be a good alternative. But not all internal parts for the gearbox are currently available… 2nd proposal - The gearbox of the Dyna Storm: The Dyna Storm has also a slipper (Multi Disc Clutch system) and would be a proper solution. But there is the same issue with spare part availability than for idea same as for proposal 1. 3nd proposal - The gearbox of the TRF201: The TRF201 is currently no longer available, but the ball diff (not the diff joints) and the slipper clutch is shared with the new Super Avante. So spare parts will be no issue in the next years. So I decided to go with proposal 3... The TRF211XM uses the same ball diff. Optional there is a oil filled gear diff. Due to less maintenance, I wanted to try the gear diff…a mistake at the end. First I ordered only the gearbox to find out if it will work (enough space, position of the gear box outlets, wheel base,…). It does in my opinion... ...so I started modeling of the main chassis (bath tube), sub chassis (frp plate) and TRF201 gearbox in 3D, to create the brackets for the top and bottom mounting points.
  5. Looking for CCP parts for tamiya. Preferably king cab wheels but also interested in other parts.
  6. I'll start by declaring that there's something wrong with me. I've had one of those moments where I've become obsessed with a vehicle that isn't already made in the form of R/C. This one: The plan is to use a CC01 as the chassis platform. The problem is that as far as I know there's no one who makes a 1988 Nissan hardbody (uh..hard body) in 1/10th scale. I've managed to find a (close enough) 3D render of the truck online, with the intention of having it 3D printed, but I was advised by someone more knowledgeable, that even with the model, there'd be plenty of work to be done before it's printed. I've also got a bunch of 1/14..? scale Tyco bandit bodies that I've been thinking of 3D scanning and then chopping out the extra cab, but I really have no skill at all (or experience) in 3D modelling or scanning so I'm open to any other suggestions, or offers or what have you, to get this darned thing built and off my "I wonder if I could make that" list.
  7. So I finally finished the paint job that a lot of people thought I was crazy for attempting. First I tracked down an original king cab body that I have been searching for years in a Japan auction site and fought really hard in a bid war and won. But then the decision of painting it had to be made. A lot of people said I should just leave it in the box unpainted, and the king cab is one of the most difficult bodies to paint, but I just had to do it. Yes, I feel could have done a better job, but it's not bad for it being my first lexan body paint job,my first air brush paint job, and my first original tamiya king cab body. I really took my time with this one a total of 6 days to complete but it was worth it. I know this might be small to some, but im proud of how it came out and proud to finally be an all original tamiya king cab owner that I painted and built myself. All my other king cab bodies besides the plastic ones I have paid someone to do or they came already painted as I was afraid to tackle lexan bodies. Well not anymore! 😁

  9. Replaced all the old beat-up stickers with vinyl that I cut myself. Touched up the missing paint, fixed the cracks, and replaced all of the broken parts. Instead of using the red factory wheels, I thought these vintage sees wheels complement the colors of this beautiful truck. I must say I am proud of this restored project she is starting to look better than before! #tamiyamonsterracer #ivanstewart #tamiyakingcab #tamiyarc

  11. Just a fun post this time: "The King" is out for new adventures! And it is getting wild! Enjoy!!!

  13. The 4th and last tamiya king cab I am working on a special as my grandparents from the south who are no longer here use to love them some Roger Mears and Ivan Stewart. So combine that with my love for the king cab and the nissan truck im general just felt right. Im going all tamiya with this one installing Tble-04sr esc and a brushless TBLM-02S motor. Upgraded all the gears with thorp and installed the new diff to handle all the power. The drivers are Roger Mears and his brother Rick Mears on the passenger side having a BUD while taking his brother's notes. I lowered the suspension as this will be a off and on road truck. Oh and both of their heads will turn like the tyco heads up hoppers back in the days.
  14. I just wanted to show some still shots of the Tamiya King Cabs running on the track that I built. Like I said in my previous post my goal was to try and recapture those epic moments cought in the 1990 Radio Control Car Action Magazine. I will let you all decide if I completed this task when I release the footage. Among the still shots are pics of the trucks after I ran them to show the haters who laughed and said I was "crazy" to even run these "shelf queens" that they came home without a single scratch. Sorry to disappoint you! 😂 Anyway I had a blast and finally felt what Tex McDonald was feeling when he kissed the sky! I appreciate everyone who took interest in this project as usual and stay tuned for the next one!

  16. Ok so by now im sure a lot of you know how I feel about the king cab but believe it or not this beautiful black and yellow one right here that was featured in the 1990 April Edition of Radio Control Car Action Magazine was the first time I saw the King Cab. Thats right not the original box art one but this one. I remember like it was yesterday as a kid standing in the magazine section of the supermarket as my mom did grocery shopping I picked this issue up and my jaw dropped when I saw this truck. It was later on I found out the red white and blue was the original. But I still couldn't afford either one of them so I just had to settle with the magazine and drool over the pics. I owned this magazine twice as kid, lost it and tracked it down agian as an adult. I must have read the article 100 times and just imagined how much fun Tex McDonald (who I circled in the picture)was having while driving this beauty. Well my goal and dream is to have this truck and relive those great moments he was having in the article. I will start on the track tomorrow so wish me luck and stay tuned!
  17. I am a Tyco and Tamiya RC collector I love the bandit and really love the King Cab but its really hard to find a king cab in good condition so for now I decided to make one of my old beat up bandits into one. I have seen people do this before but never use the bandit chassis they usually will use just the bandit body and a hobby grade chassis so I decided to build it using all tyco parts and some upgrades. It has custom lights, engine sound, servo, 4700kv brushless motor and 60A esc running on a 3s lipo battery. I like the way it turned out and it will hold me down until I finally find a King Cab. I will upload video's of it running soon. Thanks!
  18. Hello I was wondering if there was a alternative for the rear axle shaft with the splines on them. Is there any I could use that have the pin hole?
