Thanks for the closeups, it looks to me like your driver is the "New JIS" style on the right of this diagram. According to the kzrider.com link, the fit is closer to a Phillips, so it will cam out like a Phillips. Not a true Original JIS bit, so it does indeed make sense that they've labeled it PH1.

@El Gecko and etc. Got the macro shots. Hopefully it will clear up if I got a JIS or Philips from Tamiya.

It seems to me that in the last 2 pictures that there is the double "face" cam-out on the inside corner like a Phillips instead of the radius or 90 degrees of a JIS.

I can use my PH1 for M2 screws, but prefer to use my PH0 for better control.. I also use my PH0 for fast winding M3 machine screws.

I also use a cheapo tip magnetizer.. basically a 2pc magnet with a hole in the middle.   MASTER MAGNETICS TV889025

If interested this is the ratchet driver handle I use.  You can get all sorts of bits for it.  It has a slight wobble so not for precision driving, but for Tamiya's popular M3 tapping screws this is by far the best way for me.

(I tried the variation of this handle with the bits that store in the handle.  It broke after a couple of months of heavy use in my garage so I don't recommend that one).

For stuff like the Tamiya 3x12 kit screws I use a dumpy JIS PH2 which I’d always assumed just meant Japanese Industry Standard Philips or Pozi Head (as opposed to flat or star) size 2. It came out of a set by US Pro which was about a tenner IIRC, you get a dumpy & long PH2 a PH1 & really big one I can’t remember the size. It transformed kit building for me.

As a newbie I bought the recommended JIS screwdrivers. :)

I've probably got something that will do the job fine amongst all my existing screwdrivers and bits but any excuse to get more!

Was thinking about the Tamiya blue set but didn't need the hex/socket as have a quality small socket set so bought a set of Sealey screwdrivers. Should be arriving any day now so can start the build.

I never used to worry about having the right screwdriver when younger, just brute force and ignorance and curses when it slipped and/or damaged the screwhead!

The set of Sealey ones I bought; JIS/PH3, JIS/PH2, JIS/PH2 dumpy and JIS/PH1 were £15.00 which I didn't think was too bad as they are good quality, comfortable and have magnetic tips. Used them today and they are a good fit.

The PH3 is obviously bigger than needed but I have a motorbike with some Japanese parts so I should find a use for it.
