Wheel/tyre for Nissan GT-R R32

Recommended Posts

Have just ordered a bodyshell kit for my TT02-S. the body will be purple but I need suggestions for wheels and tyres. It won’t be a drift car so slicks or treads would be good. Really want to fill out the arches.

@Busdriver The shell seems to be a standard width and looking at photos of the finished body set on a chassis they seem to feature five spoke black caps, so how about these?

These might look cool with purple?

MST make some nice tyres and rims:

Tyres:

https://www.rcmart.com/mst-ad-50degree-realistic-semi-slick-rubber-tire-4-pcs-831002-00082832 (currently have a set myself waiting to go on my TT-02R with Tamiya Mustang GT4 shell

Alternatively the Tamiya semi racing slicks linked to by @DeadMeat666

Rims: (ignore the drift classification on RC Mart, they are fine for touring, I think its just that MST is predominantly drift in their kits/parts so that's how they are on website.)

https://www.rcmart.com/mst-5-spokes-offset-5-rim-4-pcs-flat-silver-for-1-10-rc-drift-832004fs-00082844

I went with these particular ones, though probably wouldn't suit the R34 quite as much

A word of warning regarding MST tires:

Even though they do indeed make nice tires, I have found that they are very low-profile (smaller outer diameter) compared to Tamiya tires of the same size, and thus don't fill out the wheel arches as well as they should. This is from first hand experience.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will look into. Only issue I can see is Tamico min order is €150? And RC mart what about tax etc. I always use snail mail though that does seem to be less of a target!!

Just had a quick look. Why would the Tamiya wheels not fit a TT02-S chassis?

Fair enough, I haven't noticed too much difference between those semi-slicks listed and the Tamiya semi-slicks I also have for my Sierra shell, but I have only dry mounted/fit the bodies, as they are unfinished.

The only other set of MST tyres I have are their rally ones (https://www.rcmart.com/mst-ltx-rally-realistic-50degree-semi-slick-tire-4-pcs-831004-00082833) but I have yet to mount these to rims or chassis yet.

Tamiya wheels should definitely fit the TT-02S chassis, are you asking because no one has given Tamiya suggestions ?

I find most of their wheels generic 5 to 10 spoke options, and flat colors, not a lot of style of variation, but that's just me. It all comes down to what look you're after.

Can't find the chrome Cobra ones (19005571) anywhere in the UK though

And those semi-slick tyres (which I also love):

This was suggested by   @Juhuniohttps://tamico.de/navi.php?a=231596&lang=eng as a possibility. Having said that there are lots of other alternatives which I quite like especially in bronze!!

They aren't too bad. I have the mesh variant for my Sierra shell as they are almost a perfect match for the touring car livery I'm trying to match.

Being two piece as well, means you could always easily paint the black spoked section another color if you prefer and keep the chrome part as is.

Just bought a finished Blue R34 GT-R body myself but struggling to find wheels that look like the stock original nissan wheels 🥺🙄. Just 6 thin spoked ones.

They would be perfect but if you look on Tony’s Tamiya parts and others it says they are not suitable for TT02-S which is what I’ve got. I don’t understand why?

I'm not sure what the reasoning behind that would be, I've never looked at or seen Tony's parts or anywhere that specifically says a particular variant wont use them.

@TurnipJF mentions the differences between the S and R (which I have) kits in another thread (https://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/100061-help-on-choosing-a-first-on-road-model/&do=findComment&comment=886839). However I don't think any of these would affect the use of rims specifically for the S variant.

These are two-piece 5-spoke wheels that incorporate a chrome outer wheel and a black coloured spoke. Compatible with TT-01, TT-02 (excludes TT-02 Type-S) and CC-01 chassis models. Compatible with cars using 26mm width tires.

Beats me. Hopefully someone else here can shed some light onto that logic to say if its true or not.

Tamiya USA does list the same exclusion as Tony (just checked his ebay listing), yet the #54794 wheels I have which are the same except for a mesh front vs spokes, has no mention of any exclusions/limitations on either of their listings.

Nice, is it on TT02 chassis? What offset wheels are you looking at?

No using mines on an older TB02 for display only. Haven't found any wheels I like yet. 👍

James.

Happy hunting!!!

I think the issue is that some wheel types have reinforcing ribs moulded on the inside which clash with TT02-S front hub / steering linkage. I had this using problem using Tamiyas 26mm mesh wheels and had to dremel out the ribs from inside.

Will try and get a pic

Ah, missed the bit about it being a Type S. It uses a TRF-derived suspension, and XV01 universals rather than ‘standard’ TC universals, so maybe the whole set up is wider than the standard TT02 plastic hinge suspension? In which case maybe you need med-narrow wheels rather than 26mm?

The 26mm wheels do fit as im using these on my TT02-S on the mercedes clk gtr body which has mesh wheels front and rear + 2mm offset mesh wheels. The 24mm med-narrow five spokes that came with the type-s vanish under the body. You just need to fettle them a bit to work. Not all wheel types have these ribs on them.

Just checked the matching list and it doesn't look like any of those 26mm two-part wheels are  'ticked' for the 02S unfortunately. There are a few other  'standard' 26mm rims that aren't either (eg 53914, 53336) so it must be something to do with the structure as @Superluminal says
