Tamiya GF01 - WR02 wheel/tire swapping

Recommended Posts

Hi all, a very quick question,

Does anyone know if the Tamiya WR02 Suzuki wheelie wheel:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294501201841?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338703918&toolid=20006%26customid%3Ds%3AGS%3Bgc%3AEAIaIQobChMI74K9-u2i9AIV8pBoCR3y1wRUEAQYASABEgLUWfD_BwE%3Bpt%3A1%3Bchoc%3A2&customid=s%3AGS%3Bgc%3AEAIaIQobChMI74K9-u2i9AIV8pBoCR3y1wRUEAQYASABEgLUWfD_BwE%3Bpt%3A1%3Bchoc%3A1

Is the same dimensions as the GF01 heavy dump wheel please? They look the same, and I believe are made for the same tire too, but I'm not sure they are identical.

Thanks

Yes they are the same size. However, they are only hex mount on the rear. The front are bearing fitment. Whereas the GF-01 wheels are hex mount front and rear.

Many thanks for that, still debating wheels for all the cars I've got. I generally like white wheels, and given that I want to keep the QD Pumpkin looking box art, having white wheels for the GF01 Pumpkin would set it apart a little from the QD and allow a greater number of bodies without a colour clash.

However it's yet more money! I may explore the chrome wheels for the GF01, I can always strip the chrome and paint white. This is going to sound odd, but I don't like the idea of painting yellow wheels white, but I don't mind painting black wheels white......I think it's because I know if the white paint rubs it'll look grey.

That way I can save the yellow wheels should I ever want to do a heavy dump re-conversion.

@toyolien that’s what I’ve got on my GF01 with the R31 slicks (I’ve also got the buggy tyres of theirs too):

I have a Jimny shell on its way to me at the moment which I will be putting on another GF-01 chassis.

Noce. I have a couple of sets of the black version. They're really nice quality.

Updating the fronts to hex is simple:

Yup, that is a WR02/Wild Willy 2 indeed. I've swapped out some of the front assembly (knuckles/axles etc) from a Tamiya M-04 kit, allowing to use 12 mm hex wheels also in the front.

Many thanks all, I'll give it some thought. At the moment the orange trim works really well with the Pumpkin body and orange tires, but going all black and white would allow a Clod or Bigfoot tribute as well.

Those RC mart ones look great, although shipping doubles the price, and then the tax will add more too.
