Fired up my new monitor in my garage.  :D

Mainly to mirror pdf instructions and to watch DIY videos when needed.

I've always had a secret admiration for Volvo's, but I'm a VW guy.

Had an old 340? years ago with a 1,9Ltr petrol, rear wheel drive, don't see many around now.

Here's my trailer, I needed a trailer for shifting some things, saw this on eBay on a "buy it now", and bought it.

The guy I bought it from built it, said that it still had MOT when he cut it up.

Best part of a Volvo, much bigger than it looks from outside.

It's secure and lockable, it tows like a car so it's just like a Volvo following you, it doesn't bounce or rattle like a trailer would. I like it.

Currently fitted out with single bed, cooker, T.V, games console. New battery with solar panel trickle charger, inverter to run TV and generator for when the battery starts to flatten.

I've not slept in it yet but I am kinda looking forward to it.RdVkJsI.jpeg

They remind me of school!!

You knew you were in for a easy class, when one of those bad boys got rolled in, carrying half a tonne of CRT TV though...

Not jealous at all..🙄

A008's too! Means business...😏👍

Still have 2 mini's in the wings, ('69-998 and an '81-1275GT which was my first car!!😁), I wanted the C20XE or a K20A conversion in the clubman body, but swaying towards a tesla conversion now, it's on the list....🤦‍♂️

What's the plan? Are you keeling it stock?

The best way to describe the goal is resto-mod. The guy I bought it from did all the bling (paint job, wheels, chrome), and I was upgrading and repairing as needed (new floors, upgraded from front drums to disc brakes). Been off the road almost 3 years for a full subframe and suspension refurbish, and to fix the holes in the boot. Ultimately want to get it drivable again, nothing fancy.

The original a series engine has a good following and plenty of tune up parts and info around 🙂

Just sent this away to bring back to life. I haven’t driven it since 2009 😕.  Lots of potential as they say

Think I've still a , Tuning bl A serise , by David Visard , Bible somewhere,  from when I built a 1293! But think the more modern way, is to nail a 16v BMW motorcycle head to one?

Resto mods are great!! 👍

The disc mod bitd, was to nail a pair of metro turbo hubs on, complete with the 4 pot calipers, with pre '84 ball joints (different taper, if memory serves?) , but betting you just can't nip the scrappy and pick a pair up for beer money these days!

Got a package from Summit, so installed some bits and bobs after work (new park lights, front suspension bushes, rag joint etc). Gearbox is out for rear main seal, looks like front seal on gearbox is leaking too and the bronze bush is disintegrating and the Torque converter shaft is scored to heck.  Stuff it, gearbox is being sent away to be overhauled.🤦

A few repairs first as always 🙄. Then full strip down, media blast and various coats of paint before powder coating.   I think hot zinc spray first then an epoxy paint then powder coat.

That's a serious project :o

This is mine - has taken a bit of work to get this far.

I'm midway through replacing engine mounts at the moment, but my plan for the weekend is to fit this lot

Picked this beauty up 3-4 weeks ago.  It's a 98 XJR with the Supercharged 4.0L V8.   I've had a few of these cars an absolutely adore them.  I'm typically a muscle car guy, but I bought one of these on a whim a few years back and have been hooked ever since.  Between the looks, power, and comfort they have everything I need in a weekend cruiser.  Only has 60k miles and has been very well taken care of.  It might be the first example I've seen without a single split in the wood trim :)

I drove it about 100 miles the first week I had it, but have since been tearing into it.  Pulled the cam covers/timing cover and replaced all of the tensioners/guides/chains since the original plastic units can fail without warning and destroy the engine.  Luckily all of the originals were in good shape with no broken/missing pieces but still nice that its done for peace of mind.  Also helps when selling one of these since thats the first thing a potential buyer will ask about.

Working on some other small age-related issues while the cars down as well.  The auto dimming rear view mirror was leaking so sent that out for repair.  Removed the rear deck speaker and repaired the foam surround since it was rattling around, and going to put in a new headliner as well.  All things that just fail with age, no way around it.   Have new tires ready to go also, but might wait a bit to see if I can find some painted wheels, not really a fan of the chrome.  Haven't had much luck but we'll see.

Mine too and I still miss it. I've had many 'better' cars but this is one of my favourites. I've looked for one a few times here in Oz but they are rarer than hen's teeth and silly money. I might try and import if I can find one at a sensible price. I'm sure if I got one again though the mystique would be lost!

Not that cheap in the UK either!

Well, you could get one for less than a weeks wage not so many moons ago, and parts where cheap and plentiful, I remember going to scrapyard's and not only getting a decent rust free door, but having the choice of colour too!!

For a good one, you're £10k plus, and £5k for a nice usable one, which I guess isn't much when everything is expensive theses days, just seems it when you used to pay £200 - £500 for a good one 😳😁
