It’s been nearly 3 years since I started this project and 18 months since I last did anything useful with it - however I had a pair or fairly worn out RR rear wheels left over from a job lot I bought from @jonboy1 and this remaining pair of wheels went round and round on eBay without a sniff of interest and then an equally worn out front pair came up, which I bought for just over £4 including delivery.

Stripped down, throughly cleaned by hand and then through the sonic cleaner, wheel edges reimagined with a scalpel  and tyres soaked in silicon lube for a month.

A mini project is the way I looked at them, still not good enough to sell on, but good enough to put on this stalled project to run it around the garden -

WOW.... I thought I dragged out projects!! 😜🤣😆 lol

Seriously, it's great that you are able to do this, for semi reasonable cost. This is obviously no shelf queen, and not original. Have FUN with it! Improve whatever you're able to. Don't sweat the purists... impress yourself.

This reminded me that after 47 years in the Hobby, and countless RCs.... I've never owned a Sand Scorcher..... BUT ALWAYS WANTED ONE. Like yours, don't want original, do want modified, improved and fun.

Looking forward to seeing how this falls together! Cheers 🍻

Ok, so pleased with these - £4.20 all in and some elbow grease.

In all fairness, I’ve had to use 4 modern screws and glue a split in a front tyre.

I’ll probably do the tyre lettering and then my spending has increased by £3.59 😂

I am just curious ... is project somehow on-going, or is it like my former-Brat-on-the-bench? I go upstairs full of elan, "go get them" and then I confront the Thing, look at it and I don't know... I just don't get any further.

No matter, I've always had a soft spot for stray cats, rusty car wrecks and pre-loved RC cars, so I have hope. :)

How's the other Beetle coming along by the way?

The M-06 has stalled for now, due to be picked up very soon.

Lots going on with kids, which is taking precedent, along with a property sale, work, and so on 😂

In fairness I’m pretty sure this one is going on eBay shortly, I’ll put SS back together a bit more and suffer the losses on this one 😭

Aah, well, that's how it goes - better to give up sometimes!

And yes, I know - life in general ... but some day, some sunny day ... the M-06 will run its victory lap. :D

Will do Jonboy, I suspect the initially it will be a parts bin special and then the OCD in me will slowly but surely take over and it’ll end up a MK2 vintage shelfer.

It’s an old quote from and old thread but this made me laugh! Been there done that.

Sometimes you just need to let them go and you seem to have enough other projects at the moment.

I do like the shell and paint job though. Maybe you should just keep that and sell the rest. In a year or two you’ll see a nice chassis for sale and regret not having that body.

Yes, agreed the shell has real appeal to me as well.

In my head the plan is too kept going with the sales - the modern stuff is easy to move along, the more expensive, heavy hitters I’ll need to be patient, and find the values/prices as I go along.

This is a small selection of SS I’ve owned over the years - no doubt there’ll be one or two others in time 😂
