Sgt.Speirs 1253 Posted April 11, 2022 Short update for today… The 3D printed gear case arrived today. At this point a massive thanks to @ThunderDragonCy for supporting this project regarding the gear diff gear case. And with the two hex spacer at the front mounting points. The positions of these spacers fits with the two holes from the main chassis (top side) like the original gear case.
Sgt.Speirs 1253 Posted April 12, 2022 I couldn't wait and started with the gear box assembly. First the gear diff itself... The idler gear and counter gear already exists from the the ball diff variant. Then the assembly of the gear case. Everything fits well. Only the 840 Ball bearing of the counter gear fits a little bit too tight in my opinion. After that the motor plate... ...and finally the slipper clutch. And the result of today's work.
Kol__ 3377 Posted April 12, 2022 Great to see that coming together. That 3 pic down with all the parts laid out so neatly get a big thumbs up from me mate!

ThunderDragonCy 7878 Posted April 13, 2022 @Sgt.Speirs Glad it's gone together well. It's always a bit nerve wracking for the first assembly. On the 840, you will probably find the fit good now you have pressed it in for the first time. There is always one of the bores somewhere that isn't quite right with 3D printing. On my Shapeways gear cases I have had to open out the idler shaft holes a little. It all works out in the end. Hope it fits the chassis!

Although only tested with the original sub chassis plate, but I wanted to see if the gear case fits the chassis first before I modify the current 3D of the sub chassis plate.

Sgt.Speirs 1253 Posted April 26, 2022 @GTodd: Me too Parallel to my RC projects, my wife prioritized our common project of a garden shed. So the last weeks I have to do all the preparatory work for the shed (concrete point foundation, electrical installation, re-route of a watering pipeline,...) and I'm waiting for the next weekend to build-up the shed itself. But RC projects like this needs somestimes time to achieve the next level. With the original wheels of the Hilux Monster Racer, this project made a big step towards a shelf-queen and no longer to a runner. The good condition of the chassis is also a reason to use this car not as a runner. And today arrived a further part...original "RACING MONSTER FRONT RIBBED TYRES" (TA-53067). The rear wheels I’m still searching for, but I ordered the Traxxas ProTrax which are similiar to the original ones. And installed on the chassis... In case of building a shelf-queen, the blue sleeved damper are not matching in my opinion. So I think about to order a set of original yellow CVA long dampers and use the blue dampers in my Dyna Blaster. And regarding the new sub chassis plate: I made the modifications and ordered the carbon variant…no manually work this time
Frankster 2033 Posted April 27, 2022 Car looks great. What is the ground clearance? Also are those 90mm dampers?
Sgt.Speirs 1253 Posted April 27, 2022 @Frankster: The ground clearance is in the front and rear ~55 mm (dampers completely out). And yes, this dampers are ~90 mm long.
Frankster 2033 Posted April 28, 2022 Thanks for info. I am working on a light clearance 4WD + 4WS blitzer beetle. Ground clearance is only 48mm+\- Wondering if I can find a repo body from a Blue Grove. I already have the blitzer wheels which is similar size to Kingcab. Sgt.Speirs 1253 Posted May 8, 2022 The days are currently very busy, so only short steps to complete the project are possible. The drivetrain completed with the sub chassis plate and the suspension arms. And from the bottom side… The sub chassis fits perfect with main chassis And also with the upper holes of the main chassis: @ThunderDragonCy: Once again thanks for your support regarding the gear case And with the installed drive shafts: Next step will be the installation of the yellow CVA long dampers and then finally the body work… The paints already arrived… And the paints for my Dyna Blaster, too
Sgt.Speirs 1253 Posted May 13, 2022 Damper parts arrived today…the weekend can start And I decided to use the silver aluminum motor plate instead of the blue anodized one. Looks better with the original look of the Monster Racer.
Sgt.Speirs 1253 Posted May 14, 2022 Like every dampers, it‘s started with the pistons: Then the assembly with the damper cylinder. And the springs. Unfortunately the shorter springs are not so long as expected (and as replacement part for 5005020). The can only be used with additional spacer. So I ordered a additional pair once again Also the shorter damper mounts (BV1) are no longer available. So I decided to use the ones from the Top Force (Evo) and shorten two of them: In the top the original one, below the two shortened. When I changed the motor plate, I found out, that the elongated hole for the motor is on the silver one (Zahhak) a little bit wider than the blue one (TRF201). In the blue motor plate don‘t fit a e.g. silver can motor (or the motor at the end of this post), but with the silver plate are these motors possible to install. And the mounted plate respectively slipper clutch… Finally the complete chassis with the wheels. And the motor for display purposes…an official hop-up part for the Hi-Lux Monster Racer. But I have to think about the motor guard. With the TRF201 one, the motor would be hidden by the mesh…not so nice. We will see…
