OnTheTrail 1145 Posted January 3, 2022 Looking to make a set of stock Sand Scorcher white wheels black. I've painted sets before but even the slightest contact with a stone just knocks the paint off. Has anyone had success dying white plastic wheels with clothing dye?
Frog Jumper 3605 Posted January 3, 2022 The white ABS palstic won't take dye and will warp. If you really really want black, you can try to find Tamiya 19000358. I've only ever seen one set on Ebay and they went for a pretty penny at auction... Or Parma use to make black 1.5" wheels for the Tamiya Cars. These are extremely rare and expensive too. But more common that the Tamiya wheels above... Terry

kwkenuf 184 Posted January 4, 2022 How do you tell the difference between the plastic wheels mentioned here, and others that might actually take dye? I saw @Kol__ successfully dyed the wheels to his DT03. I am building a DT03 with each of my daughters, and am now hoping I can dye the Aqroshot wheels I have for both of them. The plastic type (ABS/PE/PC/etc) is usually moulded somewhere, like on a tab on the tree.
