Has anybody ever tried shortening a Tamiya dogbone with any degree of success? I could attempt cutting and rewelding, but maybe a sleeve of some type would keep things more in line? I need the front dogbones from a Comical Hotshot or Avante and they appear to only be available from a far off land but have a bunch of longer 'bones hanging around to experiment with.

Never tried it, but it seems to me that a piece of tubing for a sleeve would be almost a necessity. It won't be the prettiest thing, but it should work.

I have done it with a sleeve brazed or silver soldered in place. Brass or steel tube of the correct internal diameter can usually be found in hobby shops, craft shops and even some hardware stores. Strength-wise they held up fine, but I never tried them with anything more than a Sport Tuned.

I have extended / modified clod buster drive shafts using a steel sleeve and Loctite gear locker. It works fine as long there is plenty of surface area for the loctite to work on. Brazing them might be a better option for the small 3mm diameter shafts.
