Hmm... lots to like there (no pun intended). Many of those open kits look like they were pieced back together from spares, which makes them less appealing to collectors, but for those of us who want a vintage kit to build, it's ideal. But what's listed there is probably half of what was in the preview photos... be interesting to see how they group the built kits and all the parts.

I think I'll probably choose two or three things I really like, and watch those to see how the bidding goes. Don't want to buy something just for the sake of buying something, but there are a few things in there that are calling to me.

Can’t even take the **** Ferrari.

A Ferrari you say? I only saw a red Nissan and a big rusty road grader.

Sad, IMO. His kids are selling the rest of his passion, his soul… his legacy.

Maybe a bit sad but kids do this every day. A lot of kids aren't passionate about the same things as their parents.

What @El Gecko said, what Ferrari?  The grader is pretty cool though.

I don't think its sad that they're selling it all, what would they do with it?  I have recently made the decision to downsize myself, don't want my wife stuck with all of my crap.  Would rather get some value for it now, she'd have no clue what to do with it all.  Seeing the condition that most of the stuff is in he should have sold it to someone that would appreciate it a long time ago.  Even most of the NIB kits are not in especially good shape.

With that said I'll be watching, with so much selling at once there are bound to be deals somewhere in this lot...

Lol, again. Feeling very dumb at the moment.

Haha, no worries.  I was scouring the pictures looking for a Ferrari.  Pretty nice 300Z, but she's no Ferrari :)

I saw the article another member posted. It said his kids were very passionate about the hobby and would go racing almost every weekend. That’s probably the part that made me the saddest.

If that's the case, it's sad for them, but everyone has different reasons for (not) doing things. Maybe they just got burned out on it, and it left a sour taste so they didn't want to go back. That happens a lot in other hobbies and sports too. There's plenty of things I was passionate about when I was younger that I've got zero interest in now.

Wow, that's quite the RC hobby shop stock.    I'd love to know the back story.  Several of those kits are hard to find.  If he had a recent, in business hobby shop, they would have most likely been sold off long ago.   Hope he didn't have a long medical issue.  :(

There were a lot of Tamiya kits in there I didn't even know were ever made.

His obit is linked on page one of this thread. Oil-rights money, had plans to open a hobby shop (presumably online, since he lived in the middle of nowhere), died of cancer about a year ago.

What do you mean by this? I didn’t find any pics from the pre-auction. Would be cool to see them.

That is just nuts.
If I were called over there, and they asked me what it's all worth, it would be difficult for the complete heel not to come out and say, I'll give you a tenner.

I was thinking some more about this, and I had forgotten one very important factor: I hate auctions. Hate. HATE. HAAAATE auctions. Fighting against somebody else who has more money than I do, and watching the thing I want slip from my grasp simply because of economics, is not my idea of a good time. It's exhausting, and takes a lot of the fun out of the thing, even if you "win" it. Nothing ruins my enjoyment of something faster than money. It's why I don't gamble either.

So the question then becomes, is there anything there that I want badly enough, that I don't imagine will end in a bidding war that doubles what I would be willing to pay for it? And the answer is: not really. There's stuff in there that I really want, of course, but I know it'll go for a lot more than I can spend. So I'm not sure it's worth the trouble and the frustration, frankly.

I don't know. Maybe I'll check in on the day and see if anything looks like it will end up being a bargain too good to pass up. But I doubt it.

Good point, I do not find auctions fun either and the thought of gambling with my hard earned money sounds like even less fun :)   Part of the reason I try not to think about money as far as my hobbies go, it would pretty much ruin it.

There are a lot of cool things there and hoping that so much going at once will keep prices a bit lower than they would be if there was just one or two examples on Ebay fetching a premium.  Basically hoping supply and demand comes into play and there are deals on some of the 'lesser' models in the lot that I missed out on years ago.  I guess we'll see.

I'm blown away.  I want the three 58036 Audi's and the 037 Opel.  You guys take the rest.  How can I get them?

This is a perfect opportunity to get a Wild Willy or Wild One. I can't believe how many of those he has.

Exactly.  With their being so many multiples the value will go down compared to when there is only one for sale, that's just how it works.  Not to mention the audience for this will be a lot smaller than an Ebay auction.

Yep, and with some of the boxes being damaged with tape, tears, or soils it should hopefully keep the hoarders and ebay flippers at bay so some of us can get a vintage kit we actually want.  But who knows.  I am seeing the number of watchers rise on most of the kits I want.

I don't mean to be negative about such an exciting collection but a couple of things are making my spider senses tingle.

Does anyone know anything about the company Integrity Auctioneers?  I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing but I can't find any info about them anywhere and they have no prior auctions recorded!

Their T's & C's are a little off-putting, with copy such as "AUCTIONEER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR GLITCHES IN THE INTERNET."

Can someone put my mind at ease?

Also worth remembering you will pay an additional 6% "buyers premium" on the sale price.

Integrity is the auction system the actual auctioneers, ZBS, are using. It's just the software. ZBS appears to handle everyone's estate in North Dakota.

As for thr glitch comment, I'm sure that's because Joe-Bob who's still using dialup out at the farm got upset because little Kimmy Lee tried to call her friend at the wrong moment and he wasn't able to bid on the Elvis '68 Comeback Special commemorative plate he had his eye on, and tried to claim the auction was rigged.

I would advise you, however, to call or email them before bidding on anything, considering where you are. Make sure they're willing to ship it to the other side of the world.

Thanks, good to know. And yes, I was planning to contact them regarding shipping although I'm more pessimistic than most so I don't reckon there will be many 'bargains' to be had.
