Kyosho Big Brute box art yellow

Recommended Posts

I'm getting ready to order up some paint for my Big Brute resto and need some thoughts on which color yellow to use.

At first glance, Tamiya PS6 Yellow looks too lemon yellow and I know PS19 Camel Yellow has too much orange in it. I need PS6 with a tiny bit more orange (but not nearly as much as Camel Yellow) for a bit more "golden yellow' I think. Perhaps Duratrax Bright Yellow or maybe properly backing the Tamiya PS6 Yellow would do the trick. I'm US based. Thanks for any input.

I checked my manual and of course, Kyosho recommends their Polyca paints. They only had 12 colors at the time with KYO2230Y being their yellow. I think most Kyosho guys have just been using PS6. Maybe PS6 backed with some PS19?

No expert on the Big Brute, but I think its the lighting in some ads that makes it look yellow/orange.  The ad on the bottom left looks like PS6, but who knows if that is correct.  I've used PS6 backed with white and then black and it darkens it a bit, but doesn't really give an orange hue unless in sunlight.  Maybe back PS6 with PS19 as @RichieRich said, or maybe even PS6 backed with PS62 Pure Orange?  I've used Pure Orange and it's definitely darker than you want, but behind PS6 it might be ideal.  I hate trying to match colors...good luck.

Playing around with Translucent PS paints would probably give you what your after. There is a Yellow & Orange. I’m just starting to get the hang of them myself and its amazing the different varieties of colour achievable.

That was a great truck. I raced mine for three years and sold in the mid 90's. Whish I kept it. Kyosho should re release it with the big boss bumper. I put the Vette bumper on mine when it came out. Handled very good compared to the Blackfoot's.

I have one but I totally wore it out. Everything is cracked. The plastic hub drives, the suspension arm mounts and the front bulkhead. The plastic halfshafts turned into sharp pointy things and the tires literally melted. It was a fun truck.
