Hi as you can see I haven't been a member long but this site is great I have only one Tamiya car at the moment but i'm in the process of getting a Rough Rider(i had one of these NEW when i was 13, i'm now 34) It seems a friendly informative site and in my opinion has got to be worth £15 a year just for the memories it brings back, so yeah when/where do i pay!!

Chris - and all at Tamiyaclub,

Woweee; What's all this I read about Subscriptions? OK, first I apologise for being 'out-of-the-loop' for about 4 months, but that was beyond my control. [V]

Anyway, I have just spent a while reading a lot of different threads and have reached the *reluctant* conclusion that Subs must be charged. Fair enough Chris and I hope the 'new goodies' are as exciting as anticipated.

One query though - it may be because I've been unavailable for a while, but when I tried to find/'click on' that questionaire thingy it just took me to the homepage again. Have I missed it and you're no longer looking for any more feedback?

Intersting times ahead......... [?]

The link to the questionnaire only works if you are logged in to the main site. If you are logged in there is even a link in the main content of the home page.

cheers

Chris, good on you for making the tough decision. I don't know if I'll value the extra content at the AU$ price it comes down to, BUT I won't be leaving the forums either. I have access to galleries and web space etc through my own site (www.ausmicro.com shameless plug).

I'd just like to urge those people who say that they can't/won't pay subscriptions to stay on the forums and continue to participate, if you want Galleries there are sites you can create them and display the pics in hyperlinks etc here still!

To me the forums still make TamiyaClub the best site globally for the Tamiya R/C hobby and it's the participation of everyone that makes it so.

There's no reason for anyone to be going anywhere.....

Very true.... On the other hand I (and many others) would not be happy if the forums became an in-club with only paid up members using them.

I have a quandry in that I run a site with similar costs to Chris, I can see the same costs coming out of my own pocket... I'd like to think that AU45/yr is worthwhile but at the same time if people leave and the forums dry up to an extent it won't be worth it. To me the value is in the forums.

I haven't made a decision yet, I'll trial it during September and make an informed decision then.

I for 1 would not want existing members who are unable to get paypal accounts miss out. I would be willing to pay using my account for someone without one, assuming they had sent cash/cheque first.[;)]

Perhaps there should be a list (held by Netsmith) of willing charlies who would pay the subs for those without paypal?[:D]

Great idea, i'd gladly help out any non-paypalers.

I bought this problem up on this early on. (see this thread)

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/topic.asp?...rms=tamiya%20uk

It's becoming apparent that the chickens are now coming home to roost on this matter. I asked for volunteers to help by paypal as i don't have an account and one person offered. I can understand where Chris is coming from but it seems that if you havent got paypal you cant join.OK the majority who use this site are adults who have the joys of paypal but what about the younger ppl who use this site and wish to join but cant because they havent got a paypal a/c.

Just my opinion.

Just to reiterate a few points.

- The forums will remain open and free as long as the club is running.

- Tamiyaclub is a very large global club, recieving lots of emails etc every day. The only widely accepted form of payment I can find is paypal.com. Basically the automated tools that they provided are the only way the club can continue to run, without having someone full time process enquiries etc from people. I'm open to suggestions for others but they would have to be as good and as widespread as paypal

Its a tough decision I know, but unfortunately I can see no alternative and like I've said before, you look at any big online club/sevice - ebay etc and how many of them take payment in the form of personal cheques or cash? Its just too much of an administration overhead as it makes the whole process just too manual and time consuming.

Chris/Tamiyaclub,

Have been doing lots of reading recently and watching things unfold. The Community Build car looks great, but alas, I have none of the required parts. [V]

I just caught your update on this thread and a new thought occured to me. (Sorry if this has been covered, but I couldn't see it anywhere).

Bearing in mind that non-paying subscribers will still be allowed to use the Forums (A fantastic thing BTW!), what about the "FreeAds/Classifieds/Trade" areas of Tamiyaclub???

On the Forums there is the much used Forum: "For sale, Trades & Wanted Ads".

In it's decription, there's a note saying "if you are not a full blown tamiyaclub member or just want a quick and dirty ad - then post here".

Now am I therefore right in thinking that non-subscribers can STILL use the "For Sale/Wanted" Forum at no charge?

And lastly, if that is the case, then surely one has to question the value/usefulness of the 'Trade/Sale' section on Tamiyacub.com Homepage - which I assume would be accessable ONLY with Subscription?

James

(I'm not tryng to be difficult, but I'm sure you'll see my point?)

No problem, all pov welcome here.[:)]

The for sale/trade forum is a free service. The traderoom item associated to full membership does cover similar ground but has the added advantage of, hosting pictures associated to the advert and also much greater exposure to views (so a greater success rate) Items are showcased on the home page and also in the main traderooms, both of these attract more visitors that posts in the the forum.

Cheers

Is there any chance, putting on this thread what we will get if we pay a sub and what we will get if we DONT pay, I think there seems to be some confusion what will be free and what we will have to pay for.

Thanks

First off and most obvious if we get enough subscribers the club and forum stays open, if not all services close to all people.

On day one if you join you will get for sure is

- what you have now

- the new chatroom

- easier access to manuals - more pages per day

What you will lose if you don't is

- your showroom

- your traderoom

- your details page

- all methods of people contacting you from the main site (still possible via the forum)

- entry into the photo competitions

Everything else I have talked about for members is on the to-do list for the next 12mths, some of which might be there for day one other will take longer. The list currently includes...

- increased number of pictures for all items show and trade.

- increased number of items in your traderoom.

- guestbook per model in your showroom, under your full control

- viewing figures for traderoom items

- access to decal scans

- other things, see earlier posts.

I'm still working on the payment system. Hopefully it will be there in the first week or two of September - Don't worry about it there will be a big announcement so you won't miss it.[;)]

If you are going to subscribe and you already have a showroom you wish to keep then you will need to be paid up by the 3rd week in October. This way all your services will carry on as normal and there will be nothing more to do. At the moment it is looking as though if you join after this time you will have to start you showroom again from scratch ie it will be deleted/locked at the end of october and you will need to start another one from scratch.
