Since this seems to come up every once in a while, I thought I would write this all down in one spot for the sake of posterity.

SRB (Special Racing Buggy) wheels can be placed into (3) groups:

1.  Rough Rider/Buggy Champ.
2.  Super Champ/Fighting Buggy/Sand Scorcher.
3.  Ford Ranger XLT/Brat.

The RR/BC wheels are 1.7”, 5 spoke, and silver.  The Fast Attack Vehicle uses the same but molded in brown.  All of these sets use the square block style road/sand tires.

The SC/FB/SS wheels are 1.5”, 5 spoke, and white.  These are also used on the Grasshopper, Hornet, and Frog.  All of these sets use the same ribbed sand tire on the front. On the rear, the SS and GH use sand paddles, and the SC/FB, Frog, and Hornet use the spiked off road tires.

The XLT/Brat wheels are 1.7”, 8 spoke (thanks @mtbkym01), and white.  The front wheel on these sets are the same width as the rear so all four wheels use the same square block tire as the rear of the RR/BC.

There are some variations to these such as the Jun Watanabe Hornet (black wheels) and the Brat blue edition (black wheels).

If anyone else would like to info or corrections, please do so!  Also, this might be a good place to list 3rd party manufacturers that made wheels or tires for these cars or in this size range.

Good idea

I’d say the XLT/Brat are 8 spoke rather than 4

Indeed, 8 spoke and 4 bolts.  The others are 5 and 5, right???

AJ's / ProStar tires

(none of these images belong to me, I copied them from the internet.  Apologies to OPs, especially Crunchy)

ETA (March 3, 2025):  Some of the AJ's tires, though marked to fit the Tamiya Rims, actually do not fit the Tamiya 3-piece beadlock style wheels.  They "fit", but may require gluing.  Some of these tires were marketed for RC10 and Tamiya and are 1.6" in diameter.  I don't own all of the various AJ's tires, so I cannot confirm actual fitment for all.  But I will mark the ones I know for sure will fit.

AJ's #0207 - Turbo Blaster F225 - 1.5" Front  - These will fit

AJ's #9727 / ProStar Paddle - 1.5" Rear - Cannot confirm fitment, but the second image seems to indicate that it will fit just fine.

AJ's #9778 / Super NY216 - Spike - 1.5" Front - These were also sold under the Prostar Brand.  These will fit.

Aristocraft Tires

(None of these images belong to me, I copied them from the internet.  Apologies to OPs, especially Crunchy)

ETA (March 3, 2025) - The Aristocraft wheels are Tamiya compatible 3-piece beadlock style, very similar in style to the 8-spoke Brat wheels.  The Fronts are 1.5" and the Rears and are 1.7" diameter.

Nice information thread Terry 👍

The 1st edition Ranger front wheels have a deeper dish to offset the narrower wheel arch, this was later changed by increasing the arch opening on the Ranger body shell and then std wheels all round could be used same as the Brat.

The Hornet was released as a special edition with some funky day glow yellow wheels a few years back as well, I might be wrong but I think the body was prepainted in metallic black.

I have some vintage aftermarket tires in my inventory. I'll dig them out later and see what I have.

I randomly found these rear tyres on eBay a couple of years ago. The next week got lucky and found the fronts in France so got a full set.

Duratrax Tires

(None of these images belong to me, I copied them from the internet.  Apologies to OPs, especially Crunchy)

All of these tires are labeled as 1.4" tires, and these are meant for the Tamiya 3-piece wheels.  Duratrax also sold 1.6" tires, but these were meant for the RC10.  Don't buy these, they don't fit correctly.

DYNAMITE (CRP) TIRES

(None of these images belong to me, I copied them from the internet.  Apologies to OPs, especially Crunchy)

These were sold by CRP and were labeled Dynamite on the sidewalls of the tires.  They are all 1.5" and they all fit the Tamiya wheels.  More info (and pictures) can be found here:  http://www.rcchopshop.com/crp/frogtwcr.html

I believe the original Sand Rover and Holiday Buggy used the same 1.5" size tires on their 3-spoke wheels, which if I'm not mistaken were also a type of beadlock.

Pro-Line made a lot of different treads for the 1.5" tire too, similar to many that have already been posted. There was at least a tractor tread and "Octo-grip" for the rear, and definitely a diamond tread on-road tire for both front and rear.

These are all 1.5" ribbed front and paddle rears.  They came in black, red, and yellow.

From what I can gather (based on dimensions found online), the SR/HB wheels were 1.6" in diameter.  They were VERY similar to the 1.5 and 1.7 wheels.  These were VERY popular with the RC10 drivers.

I'd be curious to know who ended up with the tire molds after You-G folded back in the day. I have a vintage set of those arrow/spike rear tires on CRP wheels, but they have no letters embossed into the sidewalls, and no indication that there was ever anything there (not scrubbed off or anything). I wonder if they were resurrected shortly thereafter without the You-G branding by the likes of Duratrax or CRP/Dynamite or maybe even Pro-Line.

It would be an interesting Historical Sleuth job...  I'm curious how the AJ's / Prostar thing worked.  I *think* Prostar* was first, and AJ's re-packaged their tires???  I have no idea.  But some of the AJ's are labeled Prostar.

There were also a few no-name RC companies that made stuff then promptly fell off the face of the earth.

Check out these weird front spikes:

Yes I believe they're repackaged. AJ's has always been primarily focused on slot cars (same for Parma), and as far as I know, when they expanded their business into RC, instead of creating their own product line from scratch, they licensed or just repackaged different brands of tires and parts from different suppliers, such as the sponge tire system made by Twinn-K. So I'd assume Prostar was a similar kind of thing.

Here are some old proline tires I have.20250303_162947.jpg.2356b53290249a6b090782141c430d06.jpg

And some others which I have no clue. The rib spike could be parma or troll.

On the topic of SRB tires, can someone identify this one? Because I don't know.20250303_165414.jpg.3c58820910619e743936e0a176618864.jpg
