While getting closer to finishing my first TT-02 build, I got interested in the idea of a  chassis cover. The one offered by Kamtec, for instance, looks simple, good and effective. It seems that such optional would save A LOT of headaches regarding cleaning and overall performance of the chassis by preventing the debris from getting in the way.

Thing is, I have a rally driver cockpit that I really want to paint and fit to the car whenever I'm done the build. I am not sure that both the chassis cover and the driver cockpit will fit. That would be great, but seems too good to be true...

I couldn't find any info in the matter so far, maybe somebody can answer my question?

Thanks a lot!

Looking at some pictures online, it seems the Kamtec TT02 cover is below the damper stays, which is where the body posts mount, suggesting even the lowest body would not interfere without a cockpit.

Having built a large number of cockpits myself, including one for a Delta, their best fit is usually when their edge sits just a tad lower than the window frame, thus not really adding much vertical filler towards the chassis. I would think the cockpit would fit without a problem with the cover.

Tamiya's own recently released #22023 TT-02 Cover Set (first appearing on the TT-02FT) is another option. It is seems a bit taller than Kamtec's, which could be a plus (more air volume to aid with temperatures & wiring) unless indeed you are using a fairly low body. I'm a bit divided by the wheel arches though as I'm thinking maybe they might actually cause more rocks to enter the chassis when the front wheels are steering. You could always remove them though.

Another item in my wish-list. I really need to win the lottery.

If I was to make covers, basically fender liners in the wheel wells, I would make originals out of styrene with spacing in mind for the chassis, wheel clearance, and interior piece, and double stick mount it onto the body.  ^_^

Thank you @OoALEJOoO for the detailed answer. Looks like good news. I will get the chassis cover whenever possible then, and give it a try. Maybe the wheel arches are unnecessary, given that the cover seems to close down on that side as well.

In any case, the Kamtec one will be probably cheaper than Tamiya. And it works better for me if it's lower, less risk of the cockpit getting in the way, also in my case I shouldn't have any issues regarding overheating since it would be mostly for winter running in Canada.

Thanks for the input @Willy iine, for some reason your post only appeared to me now :)

Yours is also a good idea, usually I would go for something handcrafted but that piece from Kamtec really does look simple and efficient. If it turns out it doesn't fit with the drivers cockpit, I will definitely go the artisanal route as you suggested.

I am aching all over (my spent body) and moving very slow today, so I think my posts are also moving very slowly over the internet.

Sounds like you got a nice plan.  GL with the rest of your project.  Looking forward to seeing your finished product in action!

Any luck trying this option?  I need something to help keep the snow out of my TT02. Also I’m not running a cockpit and I wouldn’t mind a place to put a driver
