XV-02 on the way!

Recommended Posts

It’s shaft drive!

Now I’m not so sure, when I heard I was drawing the money immediately, now 🤷🏼

Shaft drive and what looks like a battery that can be accessed without screws. So far I'm liking what I see. :)

I'm very excited about this. Now all I need is a 205 T16 body, a Delta S4 body, and a 037 body that actually sits properly.

Hmm... they are saying "front mid-ship." The motor would go back a few inches, also...

It seems to say that you can have one more tooth for front or rear. I would have been excited if there was a center diff, but I guess that's a no, then?

The motor location would kill off the unique driving characteristics of XV01. Why, oh why?

XV02's weight distribution is like TT02B going backward... I don't think I like this.

But CC-02 Bronco looks awesome!  I think it's about time I get it.

I wanted Alpine A110 with M06 chassis too.

Even though orange has been my favorite color for about 10 years now, I think this one is better in blue. I'll have to spend several months deciding which color to go with.

Enclosed chassis sounds good..   I hope they release the XV02 with a Lancia body.

I like that new Bronco body too for the CC02..  I think I'll just wait to get that instead of the Defender body.

Great to see things to look forward to this year.

There must be always one stupid thing on every Tamiya. This time, it's a high CG battery placement 😀

Otherwise, looks good. Rally chassis, Mid-front weight distribution, Shaft drive,  Long dampers, it checks all boxes for me.

That spur cover looks like it could house a differential. Optional ofcourse, it's a Tamiya after all 😀

they yanked the link down..

I prefer my XV01 with belt drive. @Juggular agree, this will definitely not be driftable like the XV01.. it’s more like an enclosed TB05.

I think this looks stunning. I do have a 'penchant' for m-chassis cars, so I'm going to have to get one. I do hope the wheels come like that rather than needing to be painted.

Very nice, really want to see it running, I really liked the front motor of the xv01, the handling was very nice, we will see how good this one turns to be, the thing is that the xv01 had a lot of development, with carbon chassis available, allowing the possibility of changing the battery position and altering weight distribution as well as innumerable tweaks to increase suspension travel, turning radius, shorten the wheelbase etc, .

One question, is anybody else noticing the battery on its side? like not lying flat... i hadnt noticed until a friend pointed it out.... I guess there was no other way to fit it.

Bronco looks amazing.  Tonnes of added details.  Even a new set of wheels.  New tyres are still too much to hope for I guess. :(

XV02 is a bit odd but I guess the original was as well.  Some interesting details in the information about it:

Quote

Item: 58707 1/10 R/C XV-02 Pro Chassis Kit

We are proud to announce our second modern era rally chassis kit platform, the all-new XV-02 Pro chassis kit! The XV-01 Pro incorporated a 4WD belt drive system with clever positioning of the RC electronic components with debris protection compartments. The all-new XV-02 Pro takes its 4WD drivetrain into a different direction by using a shaft-driven system with front mid-ship motor placement that incorporates equal length front and rear propeller shafts!

XV-02 chassis at a glance:
• Comes with two 39T differential gears and one 40T differential gear for adjustment of front and rear drive balance.
• Use 39T gear (w/15T gear) on the front and 40T gear (w/15T gear) on the rear for drive balance bias to front and vice-versa for drive balance bias to rear.
• Features newly-designed parts such as gears, bathtub frame chassis, chassis cover, caster blocks featuring the 6-degree caster angle (XV-01 chassis: 10-degree caster angle), and bumpers with skid angles to reduce surface contact.
• The motor mount, propeller shafts, input and center shafts, and urethane bumpers have new metal parts.
• It features a longitudinal battery pack position in the center-left for optimum balance.
• Long aluminum dampers are employed at front and rear.
• A polycarbonate chassis cover with wheel well liners help prevent dirt and dust from getting inside.
• Suspension arms and front uprights are based upon the XV-01 chassis kit.
• Comes with rally block tires and wheels.

Being able to overpower the rear will make for good tail slides.  I hope the upright servo means a standard size one instead of requiring a low profile.

No mention of an adjustable wheelbase though.  That would've been something great to include.

@Kalamity I pointed out battery placement earlier :)

I hope that XV02 won't have differential casings molded in chassis, so it can be modified like the 01

I built similar chassis layout for my TB03, even with overdriven front diff - it handled well :)

I love the Alpine A110, but I’m tired of Tamiya using the livery on everything.. BMW M3, Porsche 934, Alfa 155.. now Alpine? I know they all wore it, but would like something fresh

Yep, that's a fair point. However, the good thing about them doing this, is for people like me that missed the Alpine first time round. New kits are all good, even if some of the parts are re-hashed. :D

I’m in….there are more cracking rally bodies (delta, Quattro, 240z, Impreza, 306) than chassis, so this is a welcome development I reckon 👍

Excited that there is finally an XV-02 on the way 👏. Personally, I'd prefer it if they stayed with belt drive and front mounted motor, but nevertheless looking forward to seeing it.

Sorry, I missed that!

Does a battery placement like that affect the car in turns, or with a lipo you should barely notice it?

I hope they bring back more rally bodies, Toyota Celicas, Ford Escort, Ford Focus, Peugeot 306, Evo.... there are so many to choose from

I see there is a new Scania to, 770 (I know big rigs aren’t exciting for most 😉) but it’s good to see a fresh(ish) face in the Truck line up. I don’t suppose Tamiya went the whole hog and put airbags on it instead of leaf springs.

The Volvo Globetrotter in a Prime Mover would have been nice as well instead of the rigid log version.

Anyway, happy about the Alpine, the Bronco and the XV02, watch the MK1 Escort come out now I’ve just done one on a TT02 and L&L body….

I absolutely agree. I’m glad that the body is still in circulation. Hope they also release body sets, as they did in 2013, where we saw Lancia 037, 912 GT2, Alpine A110, Alfa Giulia Sprint.

I did the Alpine solid last year and raced it in Tamiya Championship Series!  Everyone else was running grocery shopper bodies

Wonder if Gavin is a member here!

I don’t know but I’d like to change jobs with him.. build RC cars and post on YouTube versus run a retail store and be micromanaged

I think it looks pretty good, but boring in the Jägermeister livery.  I can't fathom why Tamiya didn't opt for one of the more famous and more distinctly "French" liveries, like the yellow Renault Sport livery  used in the 1975 San Remo rally, or blue/red/white livery of  Tour de Course 1973. I did an M02 A110 in the Tour de Course livery for an Alpine fan friend of mine back in 1995 or 1996 and I think that livery suits the body particularly well.

First impressions of the XV-02 are pretty positive: I much prefer shaft drive so that's a positive to me, but I'll miss the front mounted motor also. I think I might end up getting one if the price is right. That Bronco is absolutely amazing however, looks as good as the one from Traxxas, which is extremely high praise. I just wish that the bumper was a separate piece mounted to the chassis, but I think this shows that Tamiya may be taking crawlers a little more seriously.

Looking at the Alpine again, no doubt that the Blue version is best for it, but I can live with the Jagermeister in more red than orange. Not being an exact replica that way doesn’t worry me if I like how it looks to me. If all else fails then the Monto Carlo re-pop decals would be an option.

And with the motor position changing in the XV02 it might make better for small jumps than the motor at the front?
