XV-02 on the way!

Recommended Posts

So I don’t understand the suspension blocks at all, but trying to figure out which of the newer style blocks this thing would use.  The manual uses separate blocks marked M (rear) and J (front).  Along with a one piece mount that appears to the same front and back.  Tamiya is releasing the one piece mount in aluminum as 22055 (XH).  Manual references 54884 (Sus block A) to be used for the rear, but doesn’t call out anything for the front.  Anybody understand this enough to know?  @qatmix?  I read your site but for some reason I just don’t understand all the options, pills, etc, etc.

The front block is a different size to the existing ones available. Hence that is why they are making the new (XH) part. The split blocks are the same size as the Separate A blocks that are available now. Although the actual widths are not the same as a std A block, as they are mounted in different positions to the standard Tamiya blocks..

So basically, if you want alloy parts, get two separate A blocks (54884), and two of the new parts (22055).. At least, that is what it looks like going off the manual.. I've not built it yet :)

According to the Option Parts sheet, you'll need the XV-01 XJ #54379 for the rear mount, along with #54884. Not sure if that's correct if they are bringing out #22055.

Correct. The XV blocks are much narrower and they also hold the suspension pins higher, so the arms can drop more.

The new 22055 has the pill inserts. The old inner separates are with bushing 🤔

In the video it looks like it has kept some of those traits. I notice he used heavy oil up front and light in the rear, which would make it less tail happy, more touring car like. Doesn’t say if he used the underdrive gear and if so at which end.

I’m waiting for all my hopups to arrive, then I can build mine. May do a build thread.
