I have a bunch of poorly painted bodies from project cars I've acquired over the years. Rather than trying to strip them, just for basher use, they could be repainted on the outside with proper PS paints. In this fashion, they'd be no more or less vulnerable to damage than a hard body anyway and would get some extra use. The only issue would be the PS paints would dry flat. Is there any flexible clear that might serve as a top coat or is the whole thing a fool's errand?

I'm assuming that you are looking for something a little more durable than the standard PS clear coat, and while I've never used it for a clear coat and don't know how glossy and transparent it dries, I'd say Flex Seal clear might be worth a shot. I've used the colored stuff to add more durability to basher bodies and it worked an absolute treat for that.

TS Clear hangs onto PS well enough, light coats not thick. Survives the flex but not the roadrash.

Is there a PS clear other than PS55 flat and PS58 pearl?

Funny you should pose this, I wanna redo a new painted body in a totally different schem, I was thinking PS flat clear as a primer, followed by TS colour and TS clear?

I back all of my lexan bodies in Rustoleum 2X generic spray paint and never an issue.  I also paint a lot of details on the outside of the body in the same 2X matte black and it looks great.  I'd give it a shot with the Rustoleum clear, should work just fine as long as there's a base layer of PS paint on the actual body surface.

If you airbrush, try Vallejo (or similar) gloss clear. If you are in the US, Future (name might have changed now) floor polish is a cheaper alternative. If it all goes wrong, Windex window cleaner will remove it.

In my military days we used floor polish like that to give our boots and dress shoes a mirror patent like shine . Like said above , if you mess it up you can strip it with windex.
A lot of static model builders use it as a clear coat , too.
