I’ve ripped the left hand window decals on mine. :(  Does anyone know where I can source replacements - can’t seem to find anything…. Do any other beetle decals fit??

The good side…. The yellow is basically ps6 - even though it has about four coats of ps19 and then backed in black…. It darkened as the paint cured and the decals help tie the colour mismatch in.

That's weird because I've just done the decals on mine and 1 of my left window decals was clean cut all the way through so was in 2 pieces

Kinda made it work but was a bit annoying

Think the only way to get new decals is buying a whole bodyshell. I have another shell on its way and it comes with the decals as well

I bought another kit.

And then a spare shell and decal kit when they came back into stock yesterday.

Help me. I need an intervention.

Well, each one has is own method.

What I tend to do for most kits is taking a scan of the stickers before starting. And for those windows frames, you could cut vinyls easily with a Silhouette Cameo cutter (I would vectorise the frame in Silhouette Studio)...

Man maths were involved. Sort of.

I’ve been able to collect the complete Legendary series in rere - but they’re all shelf queens (I’ve used the Javelin a few times - but dear gd, had to spend about three days rebuilding it in order to clean the bldy thing! - and the servo arm is made from the world’s most brittle plastic and snapped on its first outing from coming to a stop from about 2mph into a garden table leg… and I’ll use the fantom when it gets a bit drier - as ended up with two shells for that too….(there’s a  theme here….). Having laboured for 40 hours or so on each one, I can’t bear the thought of smashing them up when I inevitably barell roll them on the first outing.

The second beetle means I have a rwd kyosho runner, having pinched the window decals for the first one from it.

The spare shell means I can complete the runner kit in its entirety, having only really thought about silvertriple’s kind of obvious comment to scan and print onto vinyl afterwards…. (Albeit I don’t understand most of the other words used in that post re silhouette cameo and vectorising etc!). And if I don’t get round to actually building it - I do then have a complete kit NIB…

Like I said. I need help.

The background for me is based on paranoia (you feign shock based on my approach to things thus far….) as I do think the legendary series of cars/reres will shortly disappear (and parts are tricky already with global shipping issues), as Kyosho seem to be focussing on other lines (ready to run modern bashers and their mini-z collections - and even nitro) - so get ‘em while you can…. whereas…. I am now of the view that Tamiya will continue to rere stuff every few years, on-repeat, as everything they rere is always sold out (apart from the vqs - which I’m really shocked about - as while the prices in the uk are high - they are cheaper from the likes of Tamico - even with shipping and import vat).

Anyway. Now to stress over whether to paint the second shell yellow. Or go non-box art. And as for the third shell… where do I get window decals from…. 😬

Good weekend everyone.

…. I’ve just looked up what a silhouette contour cutter is - and wow - no idea these existed. Will do a bit more research on these I think. Thanks for mentioning it.

when you have full control over creation of custom vinyl... think in REVERSE and create vinyl masking ;)

window masks can be drawn with two outlines. Paint bodycolour (back yellow with white for opacity), remove masked trim line leaving glass area masked then paint black from behind. Don't need stickers applied outside that can get roadrashed off.

Don't really even need vinyl... in the past, used to just photocopy the decal sheet. Overlay the paper with doublesided film tape, cut out and apply that as masking for windows, lights etc. Paper + tape lasts long enough for rattlecan painting.

Yeah, that's the next step... Although I started with the masking on my side, but there is some case where playing with vinyls can be fun also...

In short it really opens a whole set of new possiblities...
