I am starting my Avante tonight, and PS16 for the body... getting hard to find paints here right now

GL with the build!  My seller in Japan sent me a tracking number for mine.  :D   Hope to have it soon~

I think PS16 looks good.

Definitely! After building these two it costs overcoming to build RC cars with plastic chassis ;)

@Sgt.Speirs Which PS color did you use for your Avante?   TIA!     (is that gun metal PS-23?)

Thanks.   I think I’m going to paint my spare body set in that color!

I will paint my spare body in PS-16…

I maintain it is a "must have" to have an Avante body in PS-16 and PS-23 :D

So I was looking through the instructions and noticed there is a center ball diff which also acts as a slipper clutch.. anyone lock this diff?   I ask because access is not good..  more like horrible..

They drive fantastic with the centre diff, I have upgraded my Egress to a centre diff also as I think it makes the car smoother.

The standard Egress spur gear is locked if you want parts.

Ball diffs were never designed to act as a Slipper (not the way we'd think of a Slipper clutch anyway); any continued slippage between balls & rings will quickly make mincemeat outta them.

Avante's balldiff is more ornamental than functional; SWB chassis with geared diffs F&R would be better off with fixed centre. If ever mine has to come out again, id be tempted to rebuild it with locking pegs:

Egress' LWB chassis works better with oneway centre (if you can live with 2-wheel brakes).

Both are horrid chassis to wrench on in the field... they just look amazing engineering pieces on the shelf. ;)

I do run a one way on my Egress and works well indeed.

I suppose the center ball diff works well on the shelf!

Edit .. it’s only 4 screws to get to the diff, not bad at all I guess.

Since this car is somewhat similar to the Egress I just got done building a few weeks ago, the build felt familiar and went fairly quick.

I’m going to do a few more tweaks tomorrow and swap the ESC to a 1060 later, but basically done.

Im going to also do a gunmetal body later.

Superb! Let's hope tamiya do another run of the hop-ups (they did with the SRB hop-ups) the ball diffs and splitter set and steering set do make a definite difference!

Thanks to you and @Sgt.Speirs for all the help on my Egress and Avante!  :D

I’m going to make a simple small stand for my Avante out of foam boards this week.  I’d like to keep the weight off the tires.

Update.. Here's that basic stand I mentioned earlier.. going to make one for my Egress as well.

Do you all paint the tray the same color as the body?  I ended up just painting mine blue since it appeared that was the default paint scheme.

I should be getting the gunmetal paint today.  I won't start right away as I have a few other things going on in the back ground.

I built my Avante 2011 and it was enjoyable but I don't have any attachment to it.  I haven't even painted the body or pan yet.  I don't think I have any plans to drive it.  I'm even toying with selling it as is.  I have cutout the body/wing and I even have an extra new body set I was going to use as my runner body.  But I just don't bring myself to running it yet.  No idea why.  What's wrong with me?

To be honest, the Avante's dual deck CF is not the most pretty design.  Egress on the other hand is.  However, once you paint and finish the Avante body with driver figure, I think you might feel the true appeal.

I dragged my feet buying my Avante kits late because of this.. I originally did not feel the connection.  But once I saw @moffman's awesome buggy collection it grew on me.

I paid a high premium to get mine as they are discontinued again and no store in the USA has them..  if you're willing to sell yours I am sure you will have no problem selling it.  I suggest you paint and finish the car before you make up your mind.

How can you resist this beauty?

My initial undertray I painted in the same color as the body…in PS-23.

When I bought my spare body there was the undertray not available. But I will buy one and will paint it also in the same color as the spare body…in PS-16.

Thanks again!

So I'm thinking about building my other Avante and do the PS23, run Egress wheels and tires.. what do you think?

At one point I was thinking about doing something like that on a SuperShot + Egress dampers, but decided to go to my roots and get the HotShot instead (well, a re-re) so I have a spare set of Egress wheels and tires.  :D

Yeah good idea I bought a super hotshot second hand it was a bit of a bargain! Well I thought it was as I was just having a few glasses of wine as I was surfing the web (never go on internet selling sites when you've opened anything alcoholic!) It was no were near as good as I thought or remembered it was when it turned up and it cost me a small fortune to get it back to mint the body was painted on top it had egress wheels and tyres which wasn't a bad thing but the gold rims were quite expensive to buy and the metal roof was off a standard hotshot!

@moffman Nice~. Yeah, spent like $70 on the gold wheels..    so silly we are.

I think the HotShot looks best with those gold wheels!!

I think I will do the other Avante in gunmetal with the Egress wheels and tires.

Yeah that's going to be interesting to see gunmetal with black rims? egress tyres or super gripper spiked tyres?
