What are these?

Anyone got any thoughts as to what these are?

They were fitted to the rear of a mk1 Hotshot I acquired recently.

We’re painted black, but when I wire brushed they look to be a copper colour.

surely they can’t be copper can they?

ive shown them next to a set of rears, that were fitted to the front strangely.

The lower drive shafts are original hotshot, I suspect the uppers are from a vintage boomerang / BigWig / Hotshot II / Supershot or from that family. They would have originally been black from the factory, I suspect the the copper colour is just part of the treatment that was used to put the black colour on them. I've cut them in half before now and confirm that they are in fact steel.

I’ll paint them black and fit them for now until I can hopefully acquire a pair of originals some time, not holding my breath though 😂🤣
