Frankster 2033 Posted April 1, 2022 Worked on installing a cheap no name RC light kit (approx US$8 + shipping). I am getting what I paid for 🤦♂️ Also tested the roof rack lighting also picked up a inner shell to keep out the debris and installed a heat sink for the motor
RC Perspective 511 Posted May 23, 2022 Love seeing a 911 RSR body build "off the beaten path", pun intended! Looks great and can't wait to see it outside! -RC Perspective
Frankster 2033 Posted May 23, 2022 Thanks @RC Perspective. Working on the cockpit and potentially a roll cage. Looks too good to drive which I know is not a good answer. Purchasing parts for a rival car 🤞

I'm sure you'll probably go for the rally cockpit, which is more than fitting for the build! I'm actually compiling pics to post my 3 TT02 builds, Kinda excited for you all to see, As I have not made build threads on them yet! First one I'll post is the 911 RSR, even though that's the most recent build. Hopefully you'll have some action video of this car running in its natural habitat soon! -RC Perspective
IXLR8 1162 Posted May 23, 2022 Wow, I'm seeing this for the first time and what an interesting build! I've done something similar to the '99 Subaru Impreza rally car a couple years ago (suspension mods, cockpit with roll cage): https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=44918&hilit=subaru I really should post that build here on TC as well. Anyway, I keep seeing the Porsche 911 RSR available from some online retailers and I really want to take it a slightly different direction from boxart. Great build, the car looks fantastic!! The entire 911 RSR build is here - And I'm just about finished compiling the pictures from my other 2 builds. Can't decide if I want to post the rally TT02 next, or the TT02R that's evolved into a speed chassis. Decisions, decisions. -RC Perspective

Versatile car just like the 1:1 scale car Great chassis shape and the RSR is a regular chassis wheelbase. The TA-03RS 911 has much better in proportions but the cost is too high for me

Anyway, the TT-02 is a solid platform, it runs well and is easy to modify and upgrade. Besides, whether it's setting on the shelf or running around on a car park, it's that glorious Porsche body you see and not the chassis.
Frankster 2033 Posted June 12, 2022 Finally! My first cockpit completed. No close up photos as I cannot compete with many others in the forum Also added the ABC Hobby 3mm body line tape. The body lines makes a big difference on a white body shell.
Frankster 2033 Posted June 12, 2022 I was away on a business trip and when coming back in Hong Kong I had mandatory quarantine for 7 days in an isolated hotel Made the best use of my time and started on my 2nd Porsche 911 RSR Safari.
Frankster 2033 Posted June 26, 2022 Finished cleaning the body and masked the windows. Masked the lights in case I want to add light buckets in the future. This will be a 911 RSR Gulf Safari livery. Question to TC forum members, I am looking at the light pod finish with the following options: 1. Black to match the wheels. Gulf cars typically have black wheels and this should work. Black room rack and side mirrors will be a good contrast. Also researching, majority rally cars have white pods to match the white body or black. My preference. 2. Robin light blue with orange stripe. Continue it all the way through including the light pod. 3. Make entire light pod orange along with side mirrors. I think this may be too much orange as I like it as an accent color and not over dominating. Open to thoughts / comments
Frankster 2033 Posted June 26, 2022 @Juhunio you have done a Gulf livery bodies before. I am going with the Gulf colors PS3 light blue / Corsa grey and PS7 orange. A few questions: 1: which one do you paint first, organize or light grey? Normally we pain dark colors firs but this is not a typical body color 2. what color do you back the orange? White or bright silver? 3. what color do you back up the light blue? White or bright silver? Any advice would be welcomed
Juhunio 6830 Posted June 26, 2022 Hey @Frankster, happy to help 😃 I’m away in Ireland at the moment so can’t look at the 934 shell to double check, but I’m pretty sure I…. Used a single length strip of (I think) 18mm masking tape running from front to back bumper to mask off the orange stripe. I used callipers to work out the centre point and marked a guide line on the overspray foam before placing the masking strip. Using a single strip helps to keep a straight line with consistent position on bonnet, roof and rear I also masked off the front and rear bumper sections, but that’s up to you I then sprayed the Corsa grey in 4/5 light coats, using the full can for good coverage I then backed that with (I think) silver (PS12) to be confident that that pale blue is well protected Then peeled off the masking tape and oversprayed the orange, keeping it as targeted to the unmasked areas as possible I don’t think I bothered backing the orange, but can’t be sure without looking at it Hope that helps, looking forward to seeing how yours turns out 👍
Frankster 2033 Posted June 26, 2022 @Juhunio thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. Corsa grey first with silver backing. I may back the orange in silver as well and add a final black coat as will add a driver cockpit. Cheers for the advice 🤗
Frankster 2033 Posted October 6, 2022 Other eBay gulf turned out to be stickers rather than decals. Proper MCI decals arrived. Trying to keep this a clean and simple body. Lining up strip on outside of body before masking inside Needed decals for scale before finalizing stripe width Target end state

ruebiracer 1046 Posted January 17, 2023 Really cool Porsches! Did you ever try to fit Tamiya Rallye Block tires for a more "serial" look?
BuggyDad 4475 Posted January 17, 2023 Agreed! These are both very cool. I have the RSR shell with the intention to fit it to my XV-01 in a rally guise. I intend to try it with rally blocks and Fuchs wheels, and I also have a set of truck tyres to try. It's also pleasing that I think there's room for plenty of foam bumper under that nose. If I might ask - where did you get that light cluster from? 3d print?

Rallye blocks are too thin for the scale of the wheel arches in the 911. To keep proportions of the 911 and TT02 wheel base the rallye blocks would looks like low profile tires. I have seen other attempt this. The Brat tires is prob more overland look than safari. Inspiration photo

However, I suspect I might get hampered with rc suspension travel.

The rally block may be too thin in scale as it is suited for Subaru STI and Mitsubishi Evo. I was considering CC01 tires with BF Goodrich white lettering as the use sedan rims, but wanted the curvy moon buggy wheel look to compliment the 911 curves. The Brat tire inner diameter is smaller than your wing rim diameter so I had to really stretch to make it fit. One concern is the front wheel clearance when they turn. I had to use wider spacers and there is still rubbing at full steering lock. Lots of good 3D printing options but I purchased this by Killerbody rally pod. Here is link https://www.rcmart.com/killerbody-accent-light-for-1-10-rally-48058-00063802?search=Killer body rally Good luck with your build 🤗

I am not sure if it is the same for XV01, but I am sure you could modify it to fit. Fuch wheels are great and come with TT02 kit. My second car was body only and wheels are $$$ when purchased separately. Cheaper to take apart a 911 RSR TT02 kit to fit onto the XV01 if you want the wheels. Not familiar with XV01 suspension clearance. There is a long damper version but not sure it the tower will interfere with the low body nose. Only one way to find out 🤞 Overall the XV01 will be much better than a TT02 chassis
