Hi..

As you see in the forums, there are a lot of brand's named for

cleaning parts ect..

Why not make a list/faq for these products ?

Like.. Cleaning lexan body -> use nitro fuel

Cleaning chassis -> use dish washer or

use dashboard cleaner

Make a vinel roof -> use bumper clean - up spray ..

De-paint hard body -> Use thinner or some other nasty <dont know brand stuff>

or Sandblast it..

U get the ID ??

There a lot of very good id's / ways to make something but a bit "lost" in the forum. (you can't always find it in the forum) ..

Just a thought

Been meaning to have a clean up along these lines for a while. I'll bump it up the list.

The only problem with it is as soon as you take things out of the general thread no one reads them. And newbies (being newbies) don't search and just post the question again anyway.

Cheers

I don't think Stefan was suggesting taking anything out of the forums, rather adding a section where answers to common questions can be found. The paint stripping question is a good example; a FAQ entry for this topic would contain the most proven methods (brake fluid, Delta, Nitro etc.) maybe cross-tabulated against the types of body (lexan, styrene hard bodies, modern hard bodies) with their suitability. Such a table would answer, say, 80% of 'newbie' and 'just forgot' questions (you have to consider us senile over 40's as well [:I]). Each FAQ answer would then be postcripted (if that's the right expression) with a standard enjoinder to search the forums for more detailed, updated, or product-specific info.

The FAQ section could be a 'static' section in the forums, or linked to from the home page. Content would be down to volunteers, along the lines of the car specs, with the mods having final editorial say. It might take a while to build up, but could be a valuable distillation of the accumulated wisdom hidden in the forums.

Am I way off the beam?

thats what i meant too.

Will do it.

The only thing is some of the threads will be edited as they can sometimes wander around for a bit and the real info gets lost in the general chatter even within a thread.

That was what I meant by distilling the info. We can leave the forum threads intact for those that want to 'wander' via the search function, but edit down the info into a concise paragraph or two (page at the most) that contains the 'essence' of the thread (or threads). I am guessing that Chris would be too busy to do this, which is where the volunteers idea comes in. I don't claim to be an expert but would be happy to collate info on a couple of topics, bearing in mind that I've only been at this game since Christmas 2002. I'm quietly confident that others with particular knowledge/experience (suspension tuning, motors/turns/revs etc., ball bearings, clods/TXTs, XCs - just ideas) would be prepared to do the same thing. Chris and/or the mods would then only need to vet the list of questions and look over the text for obvious inaccuracies/defamation/slander/advertising etc.

At the risk of being too presumptuous, I reckon an initial list of Frequently Asked Questions would go something like:

- How do I strip paint off my bodyshell?

- I have a TL01/Wild Dagger/Mini/some other 'entry' kit; what are the first hopups I should get?

- What ballraces do I need for my car? (distilled from manuals rather than forums)

- A motor FAQ - turns/revs/torque etc.

Anyway - I think I've prattled enough. HTH. David

How about you two supplying a list of links to threads that you think cover these topics here.

Just the links? Fine by me [8D] Give me a little while to draw it together.

yeah, thats a good id.

As me, being a NON expert, but shur wil have a go at it.

i don't promice it in a day, and my "work" would need a spell-check,

Will go and make a example about how i "think" it should be.

Example FAQ body un-painting:

Cleaning a lexan body from paint:

1) Use nitro fuel that is used for the RC nitro cars

2) standard nail varnish remover, rubbed on with strong kitchen paper

and somtimes cotton buds for little parts.

Even used a blunt piece of plastic to scrape some paint off aswell.

Warning: DO NOT SOAK ANY PLASTIC PARTS IN NAIL POLISH REMOVER

Only bring "on" and remove after that.

Warning: DO NOT USE BREAK FLUED, it wil make the lexan "cloudy"

Cleaning a hard body from paint:

1) Standaard automotive break flued

Soak it in over night.

2) Easy Off oven cleaner. Don't use the 'odor free' kind as it just wont work

3) HG graffiti remover From factory: Hagesan

4) Delta Activator How to get it:

Delta (A.G.) Ltd.

10 The Butts,

Warwick,

England CV34 ***

T +44 0 1926 493017

F +44 0 1926 403711

£7 something plus postage for 1 litre

Cleaning metal bits from paint:

1) Acetone

If its 100% metal bits only (ie remove all plastics) then soak the lot in acetone.

It will dissolve any paint & threadlocks off the metal

i am very, very good in creating all kind's of nice and distructive ways to blast out a esc or a servo ;) lol

But, i think if someone makes a good FAQ and mails it to netsmith it will all fall into place, curently working on some bits..

work in progress, lol
