I'm just horrified at the prices of tamiya spares right now. Most stuff is double the cost of the last time I bought it. Having said that, I spent a lot of last year playing Farming Simulator on the PC with my son instead of making stuff in the garage. But this year I've dragged myself away from the PC and have got back at the machining. However, the tractor I'm building I'm trying to do entirely from existing spares and scrap metal so to minimise the cost. I looked at a coolant pump for my lathe recently, when I bought one for the mill 8-10 years ago it was £70, now they're £250 !! I would love to buy either a turbo Optima or Optima Mid re-release, but with prices over £350 that's just not justifiable for me currently.

Sorry but this is a totally simplistic view of the situation and misattributes the root causes.

One man did not create an epic storm of cascading problems throughout the entire global supply chain.

Just a coincidence...nothing to see here.  Now move along.  I wonder what people will say after his 2nd term....

Brexit

A majority of Brits voted to exit out from under the boot of the EU, essentially to regain control of their border, making their own laws again and not having to abide by union wide rulings/decrees from Brussels(which are too by necessity are too wide to take account of the national differences of countries from the northern polar circle to the Mediterranean).

As i understand it this means they are no longer part of the EU trade thingie so they need to pay import duties on all goods coming into the country, as opposed to on all goods coming in from outside of the EU and it has put a damper on exports due to EU countries needing to pay duties from the UK.

RE: Spares Pricing

Regarding the spares prices - I'm still ordering from Tamico and the Far East, but just doing a bulk order occasionally now, at least for Tamico you need to be spending a decent amount for them to ship to UK, so I keep a spreadsheet of all the parts I need for builds and spares I need to replenish and just do an order once over the threshold, shipping is good from them and parts are well priced. For the Asia sellers I really only target parts with no UK/EU availability - due to shipping costs I try and stack up as many parts as possible into a single order so it still works out cheaper tha a UK purchase

Just recently I've tried ordering Tamiya bits from the US and found it to work out very competitive on price for what I was after - no customs fees for my order size and delivered in 6 days, managed to source a lot of rare TRF parts in the order (well rare for UK/EU at least).

We are a fair distance from any real military targets so will not be targeted directly.

Still not sure why our Nukes are stored near one of the major cities...😳😬

Although ,with a fair bit of traffic coming up the Clyde the past month or so, I'm thinking there's not actually many there the now...

Signs of things to come?

Yes

We are due another price rise very shorty, not sure if it's to do with the ,Nobel Gas used in computer chip manufacture, that Ukraine produce 90% of.

I will find out later next month how much raise I get along with bonus for all the crappage I had to deal with last fiscal year.   I work for a huge investment firm and they have been competitive on raises, but not sure about this year as wage workers are getting HUGE raises to retain them.. and I am salary.

Sure, my income level is a little different, but still.. I don't want to be left out, you know?

This is not true - out of an electorate of just over 46 million, about 17 million, or about 37%, voted to leave, so not a majority of Brits.

Scotland might be fine, Alex Salmon is pals with Putin and may have already signed a peace deal a long time ago.

Russia signed a peace deal with Ukraine a long time ago (when they gave up their nuclear weapons).  Turns out deals with Russia aren't worth the paper they're written on.

I disagree with most of this, but please can we not have politics on the forum?

It's the one small space in my life where I don't need to know anyone's background or views

Perhaps I am mistaken on the rules?

Two of the benefits of the hike in prices over the last 2 years for me is that I bought a lot less R/C, this meant I then didn’t have quite so much to sell on as I end up getting frustrated with my lack of free time to do anything practical with any of it.

The other benefit meant that on the whole I could in most cases break even give it take a small margin on my over exuberant buying.

I did move some items a long on eBay at a tidy profit as well which kinda helps me square off the expense of the hobby.

Prices of the used R/C do seem to be coming down a bit which is inevitable imo, as they have been phenomenally high over the last 2 years.
