For me it was restoring a vintage Tamiya Blackfoot Body.

Removed stickers

Sanded out most scratches and gouges.

Removed all trim.

Keyed up body

Applied multiple coats of primer

Wet Sanded

Applied 5 or 6 coats of Tamiya Semi Gloss Black.

Painted badging and body trim with a combo of fine brushes and Paint pens

Painted Tailgate and tail lights

Repaired Broken Grill and rear window.

Painted grill and light buckets with a Black Paint

Painted Ramblin Ron

Applied MCI decals

I have done a few shells with tricky decals and/or trimming, but the paintjobs I choose are generally quite easy. My most ambitious one is probably this:

2021-01-21_01-17-42

Metallic blue to metallic green fade on the main body, metallic purple tonneau cover with daisy motif, painted window frames and smoked windows - the only decals are the lights, grille and the trim pierce in front of the windscreen.

The one that took me the most time and effort though would probably be this:

2021-06-16_10-00-08

I made it far more difficult for myself than it needed to be. I wanted to fill the unnecessary holes mounted into the body, I wanted to avoid using any filler, primer or lacquer so as to make repairs easier to make disappear, and I wanted a high-gloss finish. I thus spent ages plastic welding the holes, then carefully sanding and shaping the welded areas to match the contours of the shell, then painting the whole thing in direct-to-plastic black paint, waiting weeks for it to fully harden, then painstakingly wet sanding and polishing it to a glossy finish while preserving the moulding detail.

It turned out well in my opinion - so well that I am reluctant to run it - so I painted and decalled a cheap polycarbonate shell for running duties, and I am keeping the hard body for shelf display. This is the Kamtec runner shell, which I finished in a single afternoon:

From anything more than a few feet away, there is very little difference between the two! 🙄

Mine would be this Pajero metal-top. It was my dad's. The I picked it up back in 2018 at the storage of my folks' house and resurrected it.

I sanded the body down, covered some holes, created holes for the tail light, re-painted (two tone) with automotive urethane paint (self mix) finished in metallic teal color (requested by my daughter) and top coated with super gloss. wet sanded and 3-step buffing. A lot of masking too for the fender, window trims, tail light trim, grill. Wet sanded the windows and buffed.

I did one of these with stickers, and I thought at the time that doing it in paint would be an order of magnitude easier as the stickers are absolutely swines to line up and convince to stay down.

Yes 100% agree, I did my first one with stickers. I was never happy with the alignment and thought I'd do it again with paint.

A Sand Scorcher body. It's so difficult I haven't actually tried to do it yet.

I'm not joking, it's been waiting for several years now.

Very nice. What kind of mate black paint is this?

Original boxart Sand Scorcher and the 1985 Bruiser (the one with the solid one-piece rear half). I recall the experience to be as nervewracking as satisfying in the end. :)

One I've shied away from, and probably will for some time is the re-re Mk1 Golf. TBH, I haven't got a clue where to start with it, the Kamei livery looks a total PITA to do!

Sticker wise, the Lancia Delta Integrale was a pain to do, as was the 306 Maxi, lots of stickers, and if, like me, you don't put them on in number-order, then you realise your mistake when they don't line up correctly......IDIOT!
