I've been noticing recently that quite a few of my trades aren't working out. For example you post a wanted add into the trading room

for some spare part or other saying that you have cash waiting for that particular part. In the first night you get quite a few responses, saying that they have that particular part that I'm after.

I write back something like, Thanks for contacting me and how much he want's for it and how he'd like to get paid and then ...... nothing.

Or I put a car up for trade (with pictures), get Emails with offers, I then take the liberty of asking for pictures and again....... nothing. Or somebody else offers a trade and I reply with my offer and

again ...... people don't even bother to respond. I just think it would be polite to respond to those offers even if you decline them by saying sorry but that's not what I'm after. It's only fair not to leave people hanging high and dry. I just wondering if it's only me

who is encountering this or if there are any other TC member that have the same problem. Or maybe it's just my English that offends people so much, that they just don't reply

Hey Franz

It's not your english chap, I got no problem with it [:D]

I think it's just 'people' - if they're not interested in the end, they probably can't be bothered to reply.

I get a lot of enquiries too, but only about a 10% reply to reply rate.

Ebay is worse (bigger market)

Having said that, did you know the 'ask member a question' button on your showroom frontpage doesn't work? It may be a factor, but not a big one.

I found it out a couple of days ago[:I]

the other thing I hear is that someone enquiring about something, have in the time I take to reply, found something else to spend this weeks money on....

The reasons why the trades don't always folow through is the casual nature of the trades section. I have had several inquiries on my parts and and only a few people actually buy. unles you state it, many people don't know how much your asking for a part. Once they find out either they are not interested or don't have enough to buy it. rarely do you get an e-mail saying no thanks.

Ebay is different as you enter into a contractual agreement when you place your bid. While there is a fair amount of deadbeat bidders, Generally if someone bids they intend to pay. You know how much the item is currently at by the bid price or BIN price. at that point you can determine whether you can afford it or not.

I don't think a change is in order for the traderooms. I think Chris has tweaked the design enough to make a convienent method for buying and selling items. What I do think is needed is better communication from the participants.

I'm afraid I'm the same. When selling the item is probably the main thing you are thinking about at that time. When buying you could be chasing 6 or 7 things at the same time of which you can only afford 2.

I do my best to always wrap things up neatly with all parties but have to admit sometimes some slip through.

The same things happen to me when I'm selling, so I don't take it personally when things don't work out or when I just don't here from enquirers again after the initial contact.

I guess it happens to all of us....

When I do not get a reply I forward the last mail I sent with "????????????" as a new message...

9 out of 10 react then.

Most of the time people just forget to respond, I just send it as a reminder.

Just reply to me by email and let me know if you're still interested.
