TA-02 Front one-way diff - is this the right part?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Is this the correct part if I want to add a one-way diff to the front of my TA-02?

Tamiya 53200

I can't find a picture of the back of the part (assuming the back would confirm the compatibility).

Here's the eBay listing where this is for sale, which claims the part *is* compatible with TA-02 (but for some reason I am skeptical).

Thanks!!

Thank you so much!! The instructions do not mention TA02 but I thought TA02 and TA03 diff housings were the same size. Anyone know if this part will fit TA02?

Thanks!!

The 53200 is listed as a part included in the TA02 special racing chassis kit I’ve got, also mentioned on the front of the manual. It’s a fit for sure!

Does this one-way diff not also works as a spool by accelerating?
I see there no diff function in general.

The Top Force Evo use a one-way gear in the front:

With this concept, you have also a one-way (rear braking) but a normal diff function by accelerating.

Yes it does act as a spool under acc...

Speaking for a ta03,  you have both options:  put in a 53200 and you have exactly this, one way off-load and spool under Load.

If you instead put in a one way "torque splitter" in the countershaft (e.g. 53279, 53298, 53299) , you have one way off-load but normal diff under load...

The ta03f David Jun had the torque splitter and two ball diffs, the slightly newer ta03r trf and ta03rs trf had normal countershaft and the 53200 one way/spool ...

I have both in my Arsenal but have not yet had the possibility to make a big test Day to compare the behaviour and Performance...

I can only guess that with modern brushless, the 53200 is the more versatile and performant variant, if one way makes sense there at all.. all the major racing touring cars These days have a front spool... it doesnt make sense to me dynamically in my mind to have a fixed front axle under acc, but it is true and tested and works undeniably.

I’m a little confused.  What does the one way diff vs the torque splitter functionally do?  And what happens when you use both?

Maybe I  don’t understand what spooling is?

Hi, spool means that the diff is fixed and has no function as a diff, Just straight through full power  to both wheels. Theoretically this is not good for corners, as the outer wheel has to Go more distance than the inner wheel.  Otherwise there will be friction, tension and theoretically understeer ( in casr of a front spool). The drifters like to use rear spools, which initially causes understeer too, but once traction is broken (which happens in the blink of an eye wirh drifting tires/surfaces), it makes drifting easier to Maintain..

But long Story short, These days a front spool is standard in tc 1/10 racing... maxbe it helps them stabilize and not spin out with modern xtreme brushless Systems.

53200 is one way with spool , inside the diff, see instructions above.

53279 is one way with normal diff function untouched. See Screenshot of ta03 or above of top force Version by sgt speirs

Possible because 53200 is inside the diff and 53279 is on the countershaft, doesnt Touch the diff.

Oh and using both should have the same Effect as using 53200 only. But it doesnt really make sense and is extra weight compared to a normal alu countershaft.

The one-way parts go in the diff, the torque splitter goes here:

Thanks for posting this!! Very helpful. Can you talk about how it performed for you? What did you feel was different/better? Do you happen to also have the one-way that goes inside the diff (not installed at the same time obviously) and have you compared the two?
