richard.tufty 24 Posted July 28, 2022 I am trying to thin the stable down a bit and will be list a few cars for sale shortly and have a fair idea of sensible prices, however I am having trouble valuing my TRF201 since ebay has very few sold items and I can't see many prices in the sales forum here. Does anyone have a good feeling for what a realistic price for a built buggy is? It's been lightly used and has a few scuffs on the chassis bottom, but nothing has been broken on it. I could include an ESC & motor or not, depending on preference. Apologies if this breaks rules in this area, happy to move to the Sales & trades forum if this topic sits there better. Edit: typos... BuggyGuy 1139 Posted July 28, 2022 Does it have any hopups? What version of the 201 is it? What condition are the wheels and body? Pics might help - and I might be interested depending on condition/spec! Prices for these vary a lot, NIB versions of the standard 201 can go for £5-600+ A NIB 201XMW or 211XM can go for over £1K (and I've seen some for crazy money!) I've seen shelf queen 201's got for £4-500 (stock - no rare parts or hopups), and ones with the mid conversions or XMWs go for £800+ Your location will impact the price a lot - in the US values appear a lot lower (Tamiya USA did a blowout sale at a low price, and did their own versions of the kit you won't find anywhere else, but this appeared to influence second hand prices somewhat). Just for reference I got a new built never run DN01 (the most basic version of the 201) for just under £300 recently with an unpainted body.
richard.tufty 24 Posted July 28, 2022 It's the original TRF201 which I believe is kit 42167 that came with many of the carbon reinforced parts. The body is in perfect condition with a cut out for the ESC fan to breathe, it's painted and the wing is in very good condition, just some cosmetic paint damage. It currently has a set of the TRF201 dish wheels in pink (don't ask!) with Tamiya ribbed fronts and Dirt Hawgs on the rear, however I have also have a set of white wheels with Tamiya ribbed fronts and Proline Calibers for the rears, plus 2 sets of NIP front wheels and tyres. I don't believe I added any more hop ups over the standard kit, it has full bearings but I can't recall now if they were standard or not! There are a few spares as well, like a full new chassis tub and several sets of front arms. I think there may even be a complete new bodyshell as well, but I need to find that. I'll take some photos later on and post them up. It's closer to shelf queen than basher, but it has been run a few times! Oh, location is in the UK, Wiltshire primarily, but Nottingham occasionally. sosidge 667 Posted July 28, 2022 I sold my lightly used XMW with plenty of spares/tuning parts last year for £450. It was bought by someone overseas. Based on the interest I received it was priced to sell, but I think I would have waited a long time for someone to buy it at £500+. In my opinion there was a boom in prices during lockdown because people were bored, and felt rich because they weren't spending money on other things. People aren't feeling rich any more. There's two approaches to selling: 1. Put it up on one of the enthusiast groups in Facebook for how much you want for it (it's where the non-auction buyers are now). It's free to sell on Facebook so if you think it's worth £500 it's low risk (I don't think it will be worth £500 but you never know who might be desperate for one). 2. Put it on eBay with a low-ish reserve and it's guaranteed to sell. Thousands of Tamiya enthusiasts are tracking eBay all the time, as long as you spell TRF201 properly it won't be missed. eBay's fees are pretty painful nowadays which is why it's worth trying Facebook first. Lots of RC is going unsold at the moment because people are asking collectors prices for everything. You need to be realistic if you actually want to get it off your hands.

I'd definitely price it to sell and would rather sell via here or Facebook to avoid eBay if possible and get it into the hands of someone who will enjoy it. It's literally just sitting on a shelf taking up space with many others that I need to downsize, so I'm not going to try and fleece people!
