wolfdogstinkus 1969 Posted August 15 Thought I'd repost this as it got lost. The mini circle track was cool but I liked this one as well.
Sogogi 3359 Posted August 18 I realized I much prefer single shaft motor chassis more than pro (ma/ms) chassis.
Gebbly 772 Posted August 24 My Abilista turned up. Manchester Model Shop were very good and I have found SCModels also have a good selection. Its quite cute and seeing the white solid plastic body I think I could experiment with some airbrush practice. I can see how people easily slide into buying more of them since they are so much cheaper then standard RC and take up so little space. Anyone else with tips on UK stockists? Or advice on cars and upgrades?

Gebbly 772 Posted August 27 I can see that there is a certain amount of draw from anime explaining all the very exaggerated body shapes. But the ones I am drawn to are the cars that look a bit more realistic like I wish they did a few more slightly more realistic cars. Also, the car bodies I am drawn to seem to all be in the MA chassis. I dont know if thats good or bad?
Gebbly 772 Posted August 29 A while ago I was browsing ebay and saw what I thought was a funny little spin off of the Wild Willy so I bought it. I now realise it is part of Tamiya's Mini 4WD collection. The box actually came with 2 and a half cars inside. A Wild Willy JR, Toyota Land Cruiser '90 Paris-Dakar and a Neo Dash 02 Burning Sun. I havent tried them yet but the metal battery connectors looked pretty corroded so I think they need a little TLC before I turn them on. I'm not sure about the garish orange and I'll have to see if I can find a body for the Land Cruiser chassis. They each have some gold coloured unbranded motor. Does anyone know what chassis types these cars are and what sort of bodies would work? Going to be fun cleaning these up and getting them running again, especially as they each have their instructions with them

Regardless of types, mini 4wd are all 4wd (as name states), single shaft motor models have motors front or rear and the other side is connected via center shaft (like 4wd rc cars). Double shaft motor chassis have motor at the center with shafts on each side which eliminates the center shaft.

Like @Sogogi, I last did Mini4WD way back in the 80s, when I was 12, and was used to them. Back then, I don't even have the front motor chassis, I missed the FM by a few months. All we had were rear motor, mainly Type 2 - 4. It was only when I picked up on them 2 years ago did I realised that there are dual shafts chassis. Side note, I completely missed out on the X/XX chassis. Did not exist when I was active, do not exist now with them discontinued.

I learned that from 2 Super xx models RCM sells, laser gill version has carbon fiber reinforced chassis (red one is just abs).

(Also you can keep using it if you mess up the hub piece which is cheap). I am curious what do those plastic bearings do at the back?

I am curious what do those plastic bearings do at the back? They are nice but rather expensive. Also, common problem with wheels tyres combo, I struggle to find the right tyres to fit these wheels. It just says low profile, and when I tried to fit LP wheels to it, they are too big. This kit happens to come with LP small diameter tyres (needed to keep them under the body) that I decided to use them. The rear skid is this. https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/15520/index.html It has a similar function to a rear brake, but instead of dragging its rear end to slow down. It does so by lifting the rear wheels when it hits a slope, it slows the car down, preventing it from going too fast and flying off the track. If combined with front underguard, it should really slow the car down. Well, that's the theory I suppose.
alvinlwh 7078 Posted September 25 Just finished my first (I think) MS chassis and I have to say, I quite like it. For once, I feel it is solid enough to not need any extra bits for reinforcement. It only gets a Rev Tuned motor and bearings. I cannot be bothered to mask it for painting so just sprayed it ll black for a Black Shot.
