Masking Stickers Question

Recommended Posts

I'm building the Tamiya NISMO R34 GT-R Z-Tune, 58605, and I'm confused over the masking stickers. Specifically when it comes to the ones used, or not used, when it comes to using the LED lights. Also some stickers would seem to overlap, and I don't understand.

1. The instructions say to use stickers E and N when attaching LED lights. The E sticker I believe I understand, it's there so you don't paint where the light bucket goes and doesn't overlap much with F but I need to use both. Same thing with H and G, need to use both.

2. The N stickers. I don't get how they work in combination with the L and J stickers on the rear taillight area.

3. The M stickers. I don't get how they work in combination with the K and I stickers on the rear taillight area.

4. The I, J, K, and L stickers with the line. When cutting out do you cut that line? Is that so it can conform to the contours?

Sorry if these questions seem dumb. I'm alright at decals, but I'm trying to get better at bodies and painting, and I want to do this right.

Here are pics of the masking sticker sheet and the instructions. Thanks in advance for the help.

The front lights are in 2 parts because on the real car the light has a small 'top' section that curves up to the bonnet. If you try to mask that with a single piece you'll end up with unwanted creases because there's a few different curved sections going in varying directions. It's a shape that doesn't really fold out flat.
The rear lights are each 2 parts. The outer ring is the sidelight/running light and the centres are separate lights. The outside pair are the brake lights and the inner pair are your indicators. The masks let you paint the inner circle in a different colour if you want to replicate that accurately.

And you're correct about the cut lines. You may find the circle also partly overlaps itself a tiny bit once it's in place.

Thanks so much. On the rear I put the center brake light and indicators masks on first and then the outer running light rings. Like you said the stickers partially overlapped. Not sure if that’s right or not, I’m going to paint the rings first and then the centers
