TA03 Madness - Midship Edition

Recommended Posts

Hi again....

So - the thing is: Believe it or not, I never had a TA03R :D    ... you know what´s coming....

Lets start with some trick bits :

First, I fixed 2 problems:

1. Major flaw of the 53238 Quick release: no carbon....

2. Major flaw of the battery holder: Too much plastic, and no proper Lipos.....

...and then just some playing around: How about different Ackermann settings on a TA03 ?

...now for some of the more usual stuff:

@Sgt.Speirs: Please! You can’t just ask a man if he is addicted (to rc cars)… where are your manners! This gentleman is a collector

only the best for my TA03s... borrowing my toothbrush for the gears :D .. cera grease makes the teeth really shiny, highly recommended, lil bit bitter after taste, similar to espresso..

Do you notice anything about the Top Deck?

Do you mean your self-made upper carbon deck?

Exactly. Thanks for the Answer. I wanted to know if its noticeable. Cos i ended up not liking it and took a tamiya top plate instead. You can see the diff in the weave pattern. ... the "self made" (cnc service) ones are slightly cheaper...  and of course customizeable with e.g. Fan mount etc....

Shellwise... well, i never had one of These infamous NSXes... and they scream 90s Japan so much... so.... i got 2 nsx bodies. These are not 100% period correct ta03... but hey... a lot easier and more sensible to get. And i think the snorkel is cool.. a bit crazy like hydroplanes, f1, etc.. and the NSXes will not remain the only bodies, i'll Update the thread when other bodies are done...

So here the first one... i can understand now too whats so likeable about them concerning tamiya racing, they really fit like a glove, compact, light, and the tendencial shape reminds of todays fast touring car shells - cab forward, low front and open rear.

Phew.... i love stickering but the raybrig was no fun.... to be fair it wasnt the absolute exact NSx shell the stickers were meant for..  there are a gazillion nsx body versions... but still... oh and big kudos to rcracer with his raybrig 911 gt1 Design...

I have a chinese manufacturer who makes the right weave carbon and also milles the parts. So if you need parts let me know and we find a way.

Edit: And by the way: This R chassis is awesome! I am especially envious that you have so many aluminium Hop-Ups on it

Hi again,

just in time for this year´s edition of Le Mans (100 yrs btw), I finished the next body set for this chassis.
One I have always planned to do (wtcc5 might remember, i recommended it to him 1 or even 2 years ago ;)) - the matte black test livery of the R390 GT1.

The R390 GT1 (short) competed in 97, setting the fastest time in pre quali of Le Mans. It looked like it could win.
Before the race, the organisators ACO forced the team to create a luggage space of 100l where the exhaust was (in the back, like I replicated).
This rerouting made the car a few seconds slower per lap, so it wasn´t the fastest anymore. Also, it became unreliable because heat issues occured and melted some welds.
THis meant the car couldn´t win anymore.

I am not sure if the other manufacturers had the luggage space, as from what I´ve read, NIssan was the only one who presented the road version at Le Mans, too (in Gt1 it was mandatory to have at least 1 road production car).

To the model:

- Note the exhaust in the back, like on the test car, and not on the sides (like the race car/stickers).  THis is something that is wrong on the AUTOART 1:18 version of the black test car.
Funny thing: Look at the horizontal slats, I think Tamiya was involved in the shell production really early, so the shape /moulds were made for the rear exhaust version.

Just look at this Video at the 2:00 Mark, really cool. The tamiya cars were used as a presentation tool by nissan for the Event. Im a bit proud i "found that out" about the tamiya shells and the planned exhaust location.. im pretty sure im right...

timing-wise it makes sense, as the change was made really shortly before the race, so the tamiya moulds were surely finalised by then, so they could only change the exhaust location in the stickers.

On my rc car, Note the 180sx light buckets, for me they really add something.

I also tried a few tricks to improve the stance / proportions - something that always had "potential" on this shell...it was always too high and bulky (obviously because a touring car and not a Pan car has to fit underneath, sth. That they changed for the toyota gt1 and 911 gt1 98 a year later)

What I did to the shell:

- THe spoiler and sides are cut very much, so the body doesnt appear so high.
- THe wheel arches are cut higher too, so there is not so much space between wheel arch cut out and "shoulder"
- THe rear wing is mounted ~8mm further back to stretch the car optically

Yes, unfortunately I havent found nice light buckets for the additional lights (yet). So i used those stickers, but underneath it is clear, so that can change. I tried r32 rear lights but the are too small. 911 gt3 front lights might work if i cut them up, but i need them for porsches :D . What i really like on the pics is also the contrast of the lights and Windows in glossy and the matte body. It makes the lights Pop out even more :)
