The paint I am using to cover the exposed red bodyshell when I remove the fins looks new and so doesn't fit in with the battered look of the rest of the bodyshell.

What is the best way to make newly applied paint look old? Cheers.

If was me I’d try some very fine sand paper on the new paint to try and age it a bit or maybe a very thin coat of light paint to give it a washed out faded look.

Then I would run it in the dirt, get some scuffs on it and keep it dirty.

Got all the roof fins off today and it seemed to go on forever!  Only one wheel arch to do now.

I have decided (perhaps surprisingly) to leave the roof red bodyshell marks as they are, as if the vehicle received some sort of bad paint job.  It looks better in person, the red paint splodges (as I think of them) are not so bright as they came out in the picture below and seem to fit the beat-up theme.  Maybe graffiti, vandalism or someone got up on the roof one day with some red paint and brush and had at it.

The Road Warrior look is awesome but I can’t believe they used cardboard instead of styrene or even an old soda bottle..

When I built the War Rig the front plough was 3mm and 1mm thick steel plate. :D . But then the plough weighed a kilo (or 1 hornet) on it's own and I had to use 2 old hotshot mono shock springs to hold the front end up as they were the only springs I could find stiff enough

Primer so far but quite liking the matt minimalist look. Ordered the windows, lights, bumper and cancelled the blue paint for now. Just decals to consider, maybe just put some on the windows.

Looks like I will get monster beetle decals now but hate the re re ones so probably go for repros, hope they fit as good as Tamiya's.

Pity Tamiya cheaped out and didn't pony up the dough to renew the licences for 'real' branded decals and made up their own dreck:

'Forward'! 'Speed Disc'! 'Major-Pro'! 🤮😂

Bodyshell finished and electronics fitted, Carson Dragster Brushed 70A Brushed ESC and AUSTAR AX-6S Receiver.  I have left the chassis as sprayed as part of the Mad Max look by the previous owner, except I have stripped the paint off the back bumper back to black to match the new front bumper on the way (the original front bumper was cut about for the Mad Max styling).

Hum. Take a basically blank canvas, open to any wild crazy custom idea you could think of... and transform it into... box art?

I don't get it, but don't mind me, you do you

I'm boring and have no imagination*

*Waits and hopes someone will come along and say 'nothing wrong with box art, it's a classic and iconic design' 😃

Rear lights painted, orange top, red middle, no paint lower part, so still red - look it up, original VW Beetle had red on the lower part not white.

Albert's helmet was repainted and he was returned to his rightful place, new front lights and front bumper fitted.

You're right, there's absolutely nothing wrong with box art, it's a classic and iconic design. B)

I must say I liked the Mad Max style with all those spikes a lot. And if it was mine I would had keep it that way until I would have realised they were from cardboard. One puddle and you have a car full of papier mâché.

You should think about the gold rims to make it complete.

The original owner did keep it as a shelf queen so I guess the cardboard didn't matter.

I prefer the less shiny/blingy look so ok with the grey wheels.
