This is a single layer of PS-45 Translucent Purple, then a single layer of PS-37 Translucent Red, and I did that two more times for 6 alternating layers and then backed it with PS-41 Bright Silver Polycarbonate. Colour changes as the light hits at different angles.

This is a great thread especially for ideas. The only trouble may be individual’s photography/lighting skills ( mine are 💩) as that will effect what you see!!!

I remember seeing your finished car a while back but now seeing all the paint and masking that went into it.  I originally assumed it was decals.

Next level stuff! 🤗

Thanks mate 👍🏻

The No 23 are decals though as I'm not that good to mask and paint that 😂.

I seem to be a bit of a glutton for punishment when it comes to masking though...

As requested @Frankster :)

'Stealth-mode' AMG GT3

The instructions would have you mask off virtually the whole shell in order to spray the three small black bits first. I've done that before and the masking didn't work out so well, so this time I masked off the black areas and sprayed the Gun Metal, and then removed the masking to spray the black. It worked perfectly, all the lines are really crisp. Something to do with the contours of the areas that need masking makes it easier / cleaner to do it this way....

  • Mask off the black areas: front and rear splitter / diffusers and front grill. I also masked off two wide stripes on the roof
  • First spray PS-23 Gun Metal
  • Then PS-5 Black (spray the front light clusters and the rear wing sections at the same time)
  • Then remove the window masks to spray PS-31 Smoke
  • NOTE: keep the window masks! Stick them to the back of the main sticker sheet so you can peel them off again, you will need them
  • Then remove the front and rear light masks, keep them too (as above)!
  • Remove the outer protective film
  • Place the window and light masks back on the outside of the shell
  • Spray the outside of the shell with PS-55 Flat Clear
  • Spray rear light clusters PS-15 Metallic Red
  • Spray the rear wing mounts and mirrors TS-29 Semi Gloss Black

For the stickers I used the stock sticker sheet but left out all the yellow accents. I also left out the stickers for the rear-wing side blades and made new stickers for them (front and back) using Tamiya's Carbon Sticker Sheet (54646)

@Juhunio great body as always.  Love the gun metal.  I did a bright gun metal which is an unofficial Mercedes color for the HSV 010.   Both simple and clean.

Just to confirm, do you install the decals before or after Flat Clear?

Thanks very much! I attached the stickers after the Flat Clear, just because that's how the instructions said to do it. There are some areas where retaining a glossier finish suits the design, so it did make sense to do it that way round

I generally experiment with a lot of different colours and backing colours so not necessarily back colours with different shades of grey or silver and whites etc etc this one was translucent red backed with gold because I wanted the gold pin stripes around the flames and the white is backed with metallic bright silver and it certainly comes alive in the direct sun:D

@Ferruz what colors are these?

image.jpeg.952c00ee33912cfd8d8d4f15b8e1aa04.jpeg

I may not remember the color codes correctly, and I can't double check as my rattle cans are still stored away since the flood we had last year, but I'll try to remember.

For the Manta Ray I have used a double coat of Fluorescent Yellow (I think it's PS-27) backed with a layer of PS-1 White, and two or three coats of Metallic Blue (which I believe is PS-16) without any backing colour, since I wanted it to be a bit translucent.

Here's an old pic of the finished shell, man I wish it still looked this pristine 😅

For the Terra Scorcher I went for Light Blue (I believe it's PS-3?) with Fluorescent Orange (PS-24) details. Two-three coats of Fluo Orange backed with one layer of PS-1 White. The Light Blue was also sprayed on in 3 coats, and no backing. In this case I've decided to make my life more complicated by painting the window gasket from the inside as well: that was accomplished with lots of masking, plenty of swearing, and a tiny amount of PS-5 Black.

I get asked often what color this is so here it is.

PS19 Camel Yellow (no backing)

Roof is just generic white, but it's acrylic and don't remember what number it was.

Grill and mirrors are running TS29 semi-gloss black

@OoALEJOoO what Ferrari red did you use?  Did you pain the yellow stripe or is it a decal?
