@moffman do you have any more info on the paints you used in each car?

The xls is all tamiya camel yellow, bright silver, bright red and black the sx2 is neon yellow and neon blue and white  from testors the cougar laydown is neon yellow, metallic white and purple but I can't remember the name of it with black inbetween but the laydown was sprayed for me by a local artist if you look closely it's got a brick type pattern in it which comes alive in the sun........way beyond my capabilities! One day though?

Thanks mate 👍🏻

The No 23 are decals though as I'm not that good to mask and paint that 😂.

I seem to be a bit of a glutton for punishment when it comes to masking though...

@Re-Buggedas our masking expert 😃 how would you go about making the bumper of a 911 RSR shell? Would you use fancy liquid masks or just regular masking tape? I found making tape really hard to apply in clean straight lines and the results really disappointing. That was on a small 1/27 lexan busy though. Thanks!

First time bittydesign liquid mask user. It’s a good tool, I still like tape though.

Interesting design.  What Paint color code are these?

Thanks for the kind words @Pylon80 👍🏻 I don’t feel like an expert at times but I’ll take it 😉

Hummm, I’ve never used liquid mask so sorry I can’t really help there? I’ve heard of good results from others though. A 1/27 scale body sounds fiddly I guess you could put a swear jar on the workbench and with all the cursing there should be enough funds in there by lunchtime to invest in an easier to do 1/10 car 😁

Just keep persevering, not sure what your shell looks like but if it’s a small black line on the front of the bumper maybe a paint/marker pen maybe the way to go? I did the rubbers around the windows of the Mini with a Testors paint pen before spraying and didn’t react with the Tamiya paint, I’ve also sprayed over Humbrol Enamel details that were brushed on as well without any problems, edges can be cleaned up with a damp white spirit  cloth (for enamels)  while the paint is still wet prior to spraying.  Hope that helps mate 👍🏻

Thank you,

It’s an interpretation of the Honda JACCS touring cars of the 90s. Although it’s no where near accurate or a clean job ( by far most technical I’ve ever done ) It is absolutely jumping out at you in a room in person. Very happy in that regard.

It’s non Tamiya Paint. There’s only a dozen colours available by them it’s called Hobbynox. Readily available locally, it’s no where near as nice to paint with as tamiya but I use them for their florescent colours as they pop nicely. Bit cheaper too.

The 1/27 shell was just a micro lexan shell I did back a couple years ago; I had tried to make the bumper a different color and the result was not so good.

The shell I'm doing this winter is a new/spare Tamiya 911 rsr as my current one is pretty beat up. This time I want to go box ar: it has an orange bumper and silver body. See picture. If I mask it with making tape I'm not sure I'll get a straight line.

For this model, the good thing there is a black  horizontal body seam decal to cover up any paint problems.  Good luck 🤞

PS / TS Paint: grey primer, TS14 Black, Flat Clear.   Unfortunately I did not wipe the dust off before applying the TS80 clear coat.  Lightly sanded and applied another coat of TS14 Black paint.   No further clear coat

Backing paint / Top coat:  no further clear coat

Comments:  TS30 silver leaf for wheels

I wanted metallic red Beetle but picked TS-95 pure metallic red.  Color is nice but unfortunately it came out a little too deep for what I am trying to achieve.  Added a coat of Metallic Red TS-18 on top and it is still too deep.   Added Italian Red TS-8 and then gave up  final coating of Clear Flat.  Finally added Clear Flat to the wheels to dull the color and better align with the body.

I have been working on the Subaru '99 shell this week! 🙂 For the Porsche I'm still undecided between PS-12 per box art (boring) and PS-63 like this guy did:

Very nice color.  I did a car in the same shade. It is a Mercedes Benz gun metal silver

That satin gold effect after adding the flat clear to them looks really good! The ultra bright chrome / gold of the plated plastic parts is generally a bit too much but that looks perfect.

Paint just finished and turned out good. Ready for final sanding  which I could have done before the paint as the overspray film was top quality with no debonding what so ever at the edges. Then the decals which will take me a lot of time!

PS-16 metallic blue as thin as possible while being even, then PS-12 silver and then PS-5 backing. PS-12 was to make sure the black backing would not create darker areas. Window tinting with PS-31 (a bit of a disaster actually!

One from somewhat recently (please excuse the lack of Tamiya...)

Headlights and grill are stickers, everything else is airbrushed.

Parma Faskolor used thruout.  Charcoal is the main color.  Pink is a custom mix to match the beadlock rings.  Unicorn bones are dusted with Paspearl white for a bit of shimmer then filled white.  Rainbow was a mix of colors.  Everything backed with silver, then black.

Looks great!  I have used the same metallic blue on a Bigwig.  It brings out a nice sparkle

This unicorn skeleton made my day 😅. Great airbrush.  Do you use stencils?

Must have been masking badword, esp over the wheel arch curves.  Did you add a clear coat in the end?

So the “bad word” they replaced was h e l l.   Not really bad in my context but I got censored 🤬

Yes.  I drew out the pattern on a sheet of masking tape, then cut it out with an xacto.

It was an absolute nightmare, yes.  I did not do a clear coat.  I had so many issues with the paint/painting that I was terrified to add another layer on top.

If I may steer us all back on the Porsche topic :) I have my mind pretty much set on PS-63 Bright Gun Metal. Now I don't really want to make the bumper orange and I don't really like PS-7 either. I found its sheen depends on the light a lot and goes from almost pink to red but rarely orange :S So I wanted to stray out of historical accuracy (since I will already be using PS-63...) and I was thinking PS-3 Light Blue. Any thoughts on this anyone? Thanks!
