Well, as a seasoned forum reader for some years, i have grown to like avatars on forums, so i was thinking, is there any chance that it would be implemented here or is there a valid reason that it's not an option here?

Another thing, on many forums i frequent, the folder next to the topic has a dot or a mark on it in threads you have replied to. I like that system so i can easily see which topic i have replied to.

Also, is there anyway to have each page display more topics then the standard, what is it, 10?

Just some ideas, take it as you will [8D]

Avatar? I looked this up and found 'a new personification of a familiar idea'. I also remember the Avatar as one of ARP's range of synths in the late 70's. But what does it mean in the context of an online forum [?]

An avatar is an icon that goes in the margin on the left

It's been discussed once before I think, but the trouble is, for short posts, like yours David, the avatar actually increases the screen size used for that post.

Also, it means that pages can take a long time to load, especially for dial up users.

The other thing is where the avatars are stored - not everyone has access to personal webspace in which to store theirs, so either the club ends up hosting them, or the poster can't use one.

Check out www.clodtalk.com - they allow the use of avatars

Well, avatars are usually small .gif images that don't have to be larger then 32x32 or 64x64 pixels and are most often just a couple of kilobytes. The forum boards that i frequent all have rules on avatar use, ie. size in kb's and size in pixels. So, an avatar doesn't have to take much more bandwidth then the smilies here on the boards.

I'm sorry if this has been brought up before. It just came to my mind today and i forgot to do a search on the topic [:I]

If hosting them is a problem, i have 40gigs of bandwidth a month to spare [8D]
