Just gorgeous. Love the period wheels and tyres and also how they sit in the arches.

@BuggyDad Yes thank you. For anything pre 90s it’s so appropriate to have really thick sidewall. It’s hard to achieve outside of m scale. But if you mount the VTA tires sort of outside of their normal way you can get a really wide sidewall look which I love and is fitting for the subject.

Creeping forward with final touches to the body before cleanup and photograph. Great success was applying some tiny scale motorsport details and the few shut lines the stratos has with 1mm tape.

Discovered a rather large problem with mounting of the cockpit to body. Will need a complete rethink or even skip it.  “ Friction fit “ makes the shell undesirably warp in incorrect areas due to the angles of the interior to the cockpit surface so might make a static shelf or rail that keeps the interior upright.

Don't know if this has been suggested because I was just drooling over the pictures and skimmed through the text,

Could you fit a mini servo under the pop up lights with a big egg shaped cam with enough lift to push each headlight up individually so you can wink the headlights.

@wolfdogstinkus Thank you. Yes that would be even next level awesome. Everything can be done of course with planning and quality execution. It’s far over my head of skill wise for the time being so I hard mounted them but I’d like to get to that point one day. Having said that this project has taken 16? months or so, I almost can’t look at it anymore 😂😂

I can relate to that!!, I started this on first lockdown only to be back in work 4 days later. Took me months!!!.

Then I left it for ages and came back and finished the VW badge to my liking and called it done. But it's supposed to have bumpers, full interior, roof rack and a few other details I omitted because I was seeing matchsticks, not just in my dreams but I think they were creeping into my peripheral vision by this stage, not to mention the mess I created everywhere, probably had bits of matchstick glued on my face for a week or something or in my hair, in my boots, socks, you get the idea. Lol.

Great job on your shell though, it looks like a 1/1 in a lot of your pictures.

Someone more clever than us may plastic print pop up headlights if we push the idea enough. Lol

The VW was even supposed to have safari windows, maybe one day.......

Final moments of the build. My longest to date. I will go through all the final photos I took and post the cherry ones. Thank you for everyone that helped motivated this build and all builds for that matter.

Tires are VTA 31mm rear 26mm front mounted backwards over the lip of the rim to get as much rubber visible as possible.

Wheels were done using Tamiya pink primer followed by Vallejo red, and one coat of PS Brilliant red.

@Aerobert @Nick GThank you! I’m excited to be finally done. That means I can start the next one

I am thinking It will be something along the lines of the following few inspiration images below. Dark metallic blue, black or a non obvious livery.

If I get more confident with scratchbuilding I will cut to separate the clamshells and have them magnetic / detachable with some sort of frame or cage under ☺️

Shrunk my Lancia down to 1/64. Absolutely love the detail, scale, and that it rolls. Perfect for the workplace.

CM’s 1/64

Did I get one of each rally build I’ve done since 2020? Maybe…..

Nice little reminder and motivator! I don’t have any rcs out if I’m not directly building or using it as I only see flaws.

Let´s go ahead and continue the stratos subject in one spot. Anyone that likes the subject will appreciate the thread anyway.

Lancia Stratos in 210mm M scale
A continuation of my Lancia projects this time in M scale.

Body
ABC Hobby Lancia Stratos
210 mm

Chassis
XM1S with 17.5T combo

Xpress XM1S is a incredibly tightly packed chassis and package. I think their stuff is an incredible value I picked this one up a while back, re worked some of the wiring and adapted it to accept the stratos body as a placeholder.
The body itself is of better proportions and overall robustness then the 1:10 version. It suffers visually in the rear a bit but it´s still really exciting as a whole for me. It´s nearly a square. I love it. I will be going for a single colour this time.
Looking mainly at LB replicas as inspiration - Lime, Yellow, Metallic blue, Black, Gunmetal.

I´m considering re creating a satin finish working both sides of the lexan.
