MK2 Golf dimensions almost exactly match 239mm WB M-chassis Cheers Honza, this will be so cool. I'm amazed they are creating a new tooling for another Golf (I am not complaining) , their market research must be right... or their relationship with VW is strong. After the Mk2 Escort I wonder if they are further scoping out the rally market on the MF01X chassis to pre-empt a 959 release perhaps. Personally I want a totally scale Tamiya replica of the 205 T16.

One good thing is there actually was a 4wd Mk2 Golf in rally form so let’s hope we get a real livery not a Tamiya special!!!

Butler 338 Posted December 21, 2022 Ah. Tamiya does it again. Golf is fwd so they put it on a 4wd chassis. At least it’s not short wheelbase so I can use it on my M07.

As a fellow VW maniac...I think about this quite often, lots of VW group models in the Tamiya line up and this seems to be growing over time....which is great! . I'm kinda surprised they haven't done the WRC Polo yet given it was 4 time world champion in the not too distant past. I'm picking it will come along at some point though.....the VW golf rally however, also sounds fun and nice to see another classic in the lineup. Oh yeah, I too reckon a Peugot 205 rally would be epic. Who knows....Tamiya does what Tamiya does and they like to surprise us from time to time. qatmix 794 Posted December 22, 2022 Yep I’m sure the mb will be a new basic m-chassis. Probably allowing front and rear drive as build options so no need for a separate front or rear wheel drive chassis. I like all the speculation. Tamiya once again with two brand new chassis and people still moan that they don’t do anything new. No other RC company comes close to the amount of innovation and design of Tamiya.

Or, since M-0x is running out of numbers, they decided to switch to new naming scheme - MA as a classic, cheap line to replace M05/6, MB as more experimental and performance targeted, like M07/8. Ziddan 947 Posted December 22, 2022 Hmm, Golf MK2, had a synchro as my first car, loved it, gotta look at picking it up. My dad is a bit of a fiat fan, his first car was a fiat 1100 but he often talks about the abarth. Now hes got a renault r4 tho so i had been thinking of getting him the Alpine (he talks about that model too) as an introduction to rc but the fiat would probably be a better fit. gizard 133 Posted December 23, 2022 MKII Golf to go on XV-01 Chassis would be great although I have two XV-01's (both long damper spec) one built and one not - 3 Integral bodies and 1 GR-Yaris....
toyolien 4681 Posted December 31, 2022 Anyone have any updates on the mb-01? Got an m08r here waiting to be built but I'm now holding out to see what the mb-01 will be. People are saying that it will replace the m-chassis cars but I can't see it as a replacement for the m07 and m08. But I guess this is Tamiya after all. GreatDane 70 Posted December 31, 2022 Every now and again Tamiya manage to release news that are so unexpected to the community. For one the NSU which totally blew me away. Lovely youngtimer. The same goes for the Ford Escort mk ll and the Audi Quattro. True classic's. Next year it will be the Golf mk ll. No one saw this coming. No one! LOVE IT! I love when Tamiya surprises the community with great unexpected releases. Not to mention MB-01 chassis. I hope we will see some CAD drawings of teaser images because 30 days in to the future is a longe time to wait. Just saying. Have a great happy new year, ya'll c'',)

We'll see... That's exactly what I was thinking. I was going to build and M-06 earlier in the year, but couldn't find any of the genuine Tamiya hop ups anywhere, same for the M05. Then when I saw the MB-01 announced I thought, "that's why they've stopped the M-05/6 hop ups". So, my guess is that Tamiya have produced the MB-01 as a replacement for both the M-05 and M-06 to allow them to choose either FWD or RWD depending on what body they are including. I do hope that is the case. Then that leaves the M-07 and M-08 for their 'race ready' M-chassis cars. That's my thinking anyway...
