The perfect rims for this model are the Rough Rider style rims, in white.
Or Mangels wheels style, in white.

Max

Agreed, do those exist with 12mm hex for the front?

Oh jeez. Who's saying that? Where's that info coming from?

Tell them to stop

Okay I'm off to order me a BZ motor and 1080 ESC just so I can built it as soon as it arrives, get the box hidden in the loft and claim that this new shiny buggy is "one I've had for years, love".

It's a guaranteed-to-work strategy.

I have no sentimental attachment to Tamiya off roads, never had one, just had a few touring cars, yet for some reason I decided as a New Years Resolution Im going to by an Avante/Egress ReRe. This BBX however seems to Appeal to me more for some Reason

Just saw the new product video of the BB-01. I am somehow a little disappointed, not by the car, but by the video.
How the heck can you get the idea to present a beach buggy in a forest? Or is it somebodies granny backgarden they were allowed to shoot this vid?

How cool would it have been instead, Tamiya had also shown a little more nostalgia in the video, and would have shot in good old fashion, a slo-mo video on a beach, or at least on sand in a cool location?

I was hoping it would be delayed until July. Then I can pass off as a birthday present for myself. :D

I suspect that we'll have to wait until Matteo gets hold of one before we see a video that does the model justice.

I'd agree but unfortunately Matteo hasn't made a YT video in months.  :(

I think he made a brief comment in one of his last videos about some changes YT is doing that he didn't agree with.

It's a shame as his camera, audio and editing is top notch for an RC channel.

the more I see this, the more I like it, except the rims, the rims are not right. Too shiney maybe?

"Too shiney", they're CHROME for Pete's sake.  Don't any of you whipper-snappers remember what chrome is?

I have chrome wheels on my 1:1 daily driver.  I love chrome, especially on wheels.  Give me chrome or give me death.  CHROME!  :P :D

well, back in my day everything was chromed! the bumper bars, buttons and knobs, trims around the window, even the side mirrors, none of this fancy plastic. I could go on and mutter about how kids have it easy these days ...

and yes, the rims are too shiny :P  but its that plastic chrome look I don't like. I'd like to actually machine up a set of alloy rims when time allows.

I do like my plastic chrome finish wheels and bumpers on my Beetle.   But I too am not sure about this new buggy.. something is off.  I would stick to the Fighting Buggy if going partly vintage..or the Ultima?   The roll cage still screams Lego Technics to me..  Maybe this is targeted more towards the new or Lego crowd?   Which is absolutely fine, we need more RC folks.

Tower and also Horizon Hobby have both now updated to "Next shipment June 2023".

March was a nice thought while it lasted!

I wonder if they did actually get a small first shipment (and I wasn't in line soon enough to get one), or if the whole roll-out got pushed back...

Also: There was questions about low profile vs. standard servo earlier.
Tower gives "Standard size steering servo" as required to complete, but Tamiya's product page under Specifications is states "Required to complete: ...Low profile steering servo..."
I think that's newly added info, because I had a similar questions and couldn't find the answer on Tamiya's site when I looked.

the chrome on the beetle does look good. I think it's just those rims that don't look right. The rest of the buggy I don't mind though.

What are these for and who makes them? Don't mind the look of them!

sorry, don't know. I found them doing a search for rims and kept them as reference. As I have a lathe and a mill, its my plan to machine a version of them one day.

If you use that image and do a google image search you might find more info. And from memory I think they were on/made for a SRB Ford Ranger too.

Good question; my Feb 15th order with them now has an internal status of “Backorder”, without any further details (and no estimated month.)

There's some running video at 1:05 in the recent Tamiya Live video. Satoshi Maezumi at the wheel. Bear in mind he is a world-class driver. Handling looks "retro" to be generous (considering it has good quality shocks out of the box), but I don't think the kit tyres are hooking up at all on that track, which is pretty rough in places. Not great on the jumps, and the front bumper digs in early if you do a nose down landing.

Looks really good in the trackside shots, sliding and bouncing around. But a bit of a handful from the drivers stand!

I think it will be a lot of fun as a slow-but-feels-fast runner in the garden/park/trail but might be a bit frustrating doing laps on a track.

I agree, it's definitely not a race car.

I reckon if I were to bring it to a track, the first thing to go would be those kit tires.

With proper tires and some tuning, I think it could be fun to run laps but it probably won't win any races.

Not a deal breaker for me.

thanks for posting the video. :)

Yes, I never thought it would be competitive on a track but I was secretly hoping to be more impressed by the box-stock running videos. Better tyres will make a huge difference I'm sure, but as far as I know these are not standard size wheels, and the buggy will lose a lot of character if it had standard 2.2" wheels fitted. Hopefully some better compounds and tread patterns will come onto the market as well.

There should be a decent range of springs/pistons to choose from as the dampers seem to be the same as the first generation of TRF buggy shocks.

I'm still planning to get one (won't be joining the pre-order rush) as it looks like a good slow "basher" for me and my son to mess around with when we go out with the crawlers.

Watching that vid, I’m definitely sold on having one. Wasn’t really on the fence before it but I’m all in once I get the stable cleared and some “in progress” stuff done
