LOL, I just noticed this start happening today...in a couple of my descriptions words like 'scrapped' and 'scrap' got changed to S****ped etc, don't recall this happening before! Surely the anti-swearing software can detect that it is actually part of another word?

Ok just read it again, and even with my obscure vocabulary I never heard of a cratch.

hard to say. I wonder if the number of asterisks is the same for the number of letters edited. There are five asterisks cratch has six letters an we all know the other has four

LOL - Just testing some new not so 'artificially intelligent' swear word checker, guess it needs some fine tuning.

Had to put it in when I started putting comments on the home page, first night I put them there it show three out of the last 10 comments had swearing of some sort[8)] - couldn't let it stand on the home page.

Most words will get replaced by 5 asterixes - I was replacing with the right number corresponding to letter substituting but then I suddenly felt stupid sitting there counting letters in swear words so I could substitute them. People shouldn't use them in the first place not complain at me for getting the wrong number[;)]

Looks like its a bit over zealous though so I'll be tweeking it over the next week or so so its a bit cleverer about it. The actualy content is stored in the DB in its original form so there is no need to edit anything - it will return to the proper word in due course.

Cheers

Chris is right, there is no need to swear on TC. Although some (most) of us may be hardened old hacks with souls of flints, there ARE young, impressionable people out there.

the funny thing is, sometimes it is really hard for me

to bring something polite / without... ehhhmm, power terms [8)]

learned english from the tv & internet, and, well.. considering my work and envirement, my language is a bit rude(?)

Sometimes hard to expain how you really dislike something (or like ofcourse) without using words that gets <beeeeep> on US tv or *****'s

on a webpage.

tamiya01478, you are right, we should watch our language. On the other hand, the little dude's around the block here... If u here those 10 year old's speak/shout ... o men, i don't even talk like that! I surpose IF swearing was allowed/not ***** away, we don't

teatch those little critters any news.

A well, does keep conversations nice(er) around here. But, if u read the forums.. there are multiple ways of insulting people without calling names [B)], right

Ofcourse you can always get the not-so-kind message across without using the usual terms, which I will not give examples off. But still I think we are pretty good manered compared to other fora... In order to keep this up, or to at least give this shape a bit, I think those spam filters are a good idea - even though they have weird side effects... [8)]

Stefan you are right, the younger generation tends to have a greater vocabulary when it comes to swearing... I'm not talking about myself here though, but I see and hear it all the time... [:P]

I agree with you completely about what you were saying about the variety, colour, richness of language used by the younger peoples today, maybe I'm just old-fashioned.
